  1. But that was the thinking after last season. They were moving to Schnoert who was going to keep the same system in place, but expand some more by utilizing fullbacks and moving Lee around and allowing Trent to audible more. Well, it seems like the offense either regressed or stayed pretty much the same. And the defense did seem to improve somewhat, but the bottom line is another 7-9 record, and that as a result of a total mid season collapse. Max997 hit it on the head in an earlier post - "if they actually hire a good coach for once maybe they wont have to make a change in two or three years".
  2. Hit the nail right on the head!
  3. I can see the OP's point. Lets say you're selling your house. And it needs some renovation. Would you put in big bucks to get the kitchen and bathrooms redone, or would you spend just a few bucks by slapping on some new paint and changing a few fixtures, knowing you're getting rid of the house? Not all that far-fetched.
  4. Be prepared for more Robert Royal type FA signings.
  5. Well, at least it made my decision to not get the NFL Ticket easier. yay mediocrity!
  6. hmm, replacing Dick.....with a Johnson. Brilliant!
  7. Agreed, but I think sometimes its not the money or the city of Buffalo or the rebuilding of this franchise that may turn off the high profile coaching candidates. The turn off could be just working for Ralph himself. Lets face it, some of the high profile GMs and coaches that worked for Ralph throughout history left in not so good terms. Polian, Butler, Donahoe, Knox, Saban to name a few . I'm sure these guys (the ones that are still active or have some contact with others in the league) have bemoaned how difficult it is to work under Ralph. Levy was certainly the exception, but I think its more a testament to his personality. He is much more affable and willing to collaborate (i.e., put up) with Ralph, whereas others like a Polian or Donahoe prefer to be left to their own devices (i.e., no meddling from Ralph) to run the team. So when a Parcells or a Cowher has an opportunity (assuming Ralph would make a real offer) to work in Buffalo, and these guys fit more under the Polian/Cowher persona type, I really dont think it becomes a money or Buffalo issue. I'm sure these guys know the history of Ralph and his past GM/coach relationships. And its one that may not be attractive enough. Just my opinion.
  8. Amazing. Its going to take 3 meetings for 3 straight days between Ralph, his marketing man, his semi-retired (in his mind) director of college scouting, and his treasurer, in order to decide if DJ should stay or go. No wonder this organization is a constant loser.
  9. Mangini, in 3 seasons, is 23-25 with one playoff appearance (a loss). He swiftly gets the boot. Crennel, in his last 3 seasons, is 17-31. He swiftly gets canned. Jauron, in 3 seasons, is 21-27. Two less wins than Mangini, only 4 more wins than Crennel. And his job still has to be evaluated???
  10. Well then, it might be an improvement over Turk Schonert then!
  11. Pat Kirwan has an article about potential GM candidates, organized into 4 groupings. Pretty interesting names there. But alas, we have the extraordinary GM by committee of a marketing whiz, a coach with a lifetime losing record, a guy named Guy, and a scout who wants to work from home. Oh, and a 90 year old owner. http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d8...mp;confirm=true
  12. Agreed, nice idea. I'm sure there will be a few "Merry Christmas" threads that will wind up becoming "bash JP" threads as well. Just the nature of the board.
  13. I certainly agree, but this HC picked the OC. As well as the one before him. And if you go back to his Chicago days, his two choices there were also failures. It takes more than having players like you to be a good head coach. You have to have your team prepared (many times they havent, e.g. 3-4 defenses), you have to make good game time decisions (poor clock managment, his call on the Jets game, etc), and you have to make good picks irt your coaching staff. Fewell has been okay, but again all the OCs? Let the records speak for themselves.
  14. Not sure he's got it. It looked like he certainly HAD it, at one point early in the season, but for the majority of the season, I'd say he lost it. TE needs to be consistent in health, accuracy and the ability to throw down field and stop checking down so much before anyone can say he's got it. As far as leaving things alone, I dont know about you but I think 3 seasons of 7-9 (I cant see thm beating the Pats) is evidence enough that the status quo is just not good!
  15. Oh, so in other words, the owner lets him do his job.
  16. Means being a "yes man."
  17. I guess the players are going to start hating him now.
  18. Well, I laughed when I saw the name Rich Kotite!
  19. Regardless of Donohoe's tenure here, we DO need a TRUE football guy running the operations here. Sorry, Russ has done a decent job, but his background is marketing and I would assume he's leaving the real football decisions to the committee of DJ, Modrak and Guy. So far, those results have not been impressive.
  20. Ahh, the irony!
  21. Sorry but he's had 3 years to show us how smart he is and if anything, this year he's shown us quite the opposite. This team has regressed badly. Blame it on the QBs (BOTH of them), blame it on the line, blame it on the defense in some games, blame it on Lindell. But the buck stops with him. He himself said at the start of the season that anything less than the playoffs this year is unacceptable. Well, he needs to look in the mirror and realize he is not getting that job done.
  22. Aww, leave Trent alone, he's just stroking Dick. I mean....stroking Dick's ego. You're right, this soft, love my coach mentality has doomed this team. Afraid to play in the cold, AT HOME!!!! With the exception of a few, not showing any remorse or anger after losses. Its so disheartening as a fan of this team to see such a lack of passion, when this game is about desire to win.
  23. Or another way to put it, he was the least suckiest QB on the roster.
  24. Problem is, what statemant does that make? "The guy messed up so lets cut him, nevermind he was put in a risky situation to begin with". Dont know if the rollout was designed to be a fake drop back or if he did realize he was supposed to roll out. But the fact of the matter is, he was put in a risky situation, whether its a designed rollout or dropback, the ball in his hands at that point is a risky situation. JP certainly does a piss-poor job of ball protection, so why increase the chance of something like what occurred happening, instead of giving it to your RB whos having a monster day. JP should have protected the ball, no doubt about it, but if theres a message to be sent, it should be about getting rid of this useless coaching staff, right now!
  25. Absolutely correct! Amazing that many seem to feel that a guy who played in 4 games, starting 2 of them, is responsible for this waste of a season. Does JP stink, absolutely. Is he responsible for another losing season, he's certainly a part of it but given the amount of playing time, certainly not the MAIN culprit. For that look at all the other factors - FO, coaching, defense (at times), OL, Ralph, Trent, etc. But hey, lets cut Losman, that'll teach him for screwing up the season!
