  1. Especially for qbs if you don't grow as a player you will not survive. As time went on both players accentuated what they did well while not improving on what they didn't do well. That was a big mistake. Kaepernick befuddled me in that he always threw a fastball without any demonstration of being able to throw with touch. He was a thrower and not a passer. RG III was different in that he was more of a passer. However, the fatal flaw that both players had was that neither had the vision and the ability to go through progressions. A fatal flaw that Tyrod also has. Both Kaepernick and RG III are super smart individuals. Kaepernick could have gone to an Ivy league school, and Stanford aggressively pursued him. But being smart doesn't necessarily mean that you can process the game and read defenses. In my view you either have it or you don't. At the qb position you can have all the physical talent in the world but if you don't have that processing trait you will not succeed.
  2. I never noticed your impartiality until it was reported that you prayed at the altar that Saban built. It was also reported that you lit so many novena candles for the championship game that you set the church ablaze.
  3. Bon Jovi and the Rogers Group were outbid by Pegula. It wouldn't really matter what Bon Jovi intended to do because he wasn't the main investor. If the Rogers Group wanted to move to Toronto they could have. The pretext would simply be that the current stadium was inadequate.
  4. The mistake that a team that selects him can't make is follow the Robert Griffin III roadmap. RG III needed time to get stronger and learn how to play the pro game. Shanahan told the headstrong owner who was insistent on drafting him and mortgaging the future with lost picks that RG III was a talent but needed years to transition to the pro game. The worst thing that happened was that RG III had early success. He then went into his diva act that precluded him from learning how to play the pro game. I'm not suggesting that Griffin wasn't a worker because he was. But he was headstrong when it came to learning how to play the position. In hindsight Shanahan was right on Griffin and remarkably was right on Cousins who he actually preferred. What I like about Jackson in comparison to Griffin is that he appears to have the vision and see plays develop that Griffin couldn't comprehend. It's not completely there yet but although it is still rudimentary you can see that the potential to develop into a more polished game. From everything I have heard about Lamar he is a good kid and a worker. Griffin was too concerned about being a personality while Jackson seems genuinely interested in the game. Again, I like him a lot but one has to be aware that he is a future investment without an immediate return.
  5. In my view Jackson is not the type of qb you would trade a boatload of picks for as I would do for a more a finished prospect such as Rosen, Darnold and Mayfield. When you watch Jackson play you see a sprinkle of plays that feature stunning passes and even some good pocket presence. I like him a lot. But compared to the three other qbs I mentioned he is more developmental. I'm fine with taking the time to grooming.him in comparison to the other top prospects where you can get earlier play. I like him a lot. Assuming the Bills get a credible veteran qb as a bridge I would be happy with the selection of Jackson. Assuming that Rosen and Darnold are not attainable I would be a strong advocate for investing assets for Mayfield. I like him a lot. He would be the type of qb and personality that the region would embrace.
  6. There was a play that sticks out for me. A back got through the line and was running downfield. While most linemen would be lost in the shuffle near the line he ran down field and made the tackle. Usually big linemen have stamina issues and need a blow. He is a full effort player on every play. He should be tutoring Dareus.
  7. If you want to consider future qb prospects I would take Georgia's Jake Fromm over Tua. There is a poise and presence about him that sticks out. I'm not denigrating Tua in any way. He showed that he can be dynamic. But Fromm would be my preference.
  8. You are one of the few people that I know who gets smarter when in the last stages of one's downside. I salute you for your wisdom. You may be fading but your lightbulb is still shining bright.
  9. This Canisius team is a young team. So much wasn't expected this year. However, Reggie has coached them up. They play good team ball with good ball movement. With Reggie if you don't play defense you don't play. He is an old school coach who makes his players earn playing time. If your effort lags in practice then your asss is going to be attached to the bench come game time. Canisius has had a string of good coaches. But what sets him apart from the prior coaches is that he is a more aggressive recruiter with a wider radius to draw from. He sees Canada as a rich location to draw from. In the college ranks there are a lot of sharks in the coaching ranks. Witherspoon is a high character guy with a moral compass. His demeanor is tranquil but the core is steel. I like him a lot. And as a Canisus grad I'm proud to have a person like this represent the school.
  10. Witherspoon is a perfect fit for Canisius. He is a good recruiter and is smart about getting the right type of recruit who would fit in their niche environment. He is not going to go after the four star recruit because that caliber of player is going to prefer the more high profile setting. A Witherspoon team is a well coached team and a team that improves as the season advances. I would love to see UB, Canisius, Niagara and Bona collectively upgrade their programs and revitalize a once intense and entertaining local rivalry. Hurley did a good job at Buffalo in his short stay there and parlayed that effort into the Arizona State job where he is also doing a terrific job.
  11. Thanks for that info. That Harrison interception and stunning run back before halftime was an epic play.
  12. I usually root for the AFC team in the SB. So I'll be rooting for the Patriots because I consider them the best team in the AFC. I'm well aware that this is a distinctly minority sentiment here. In my view they have the smartest operation in the league and have kept it up for a long time. In a system designed for parity this organization has demonstrated that they are ahead of the curve. This organization has lost players, coaches, front office staff yet due to Brady and BB they have remained at the top or near the top of the league for a generation. I admire them.
  13. Kurt Warner is in the HOF on the strength of his SB wins. If I recall correctly he won the SB with two teams, St. Louis and Arizona. There were a few years where he was the best at making the quick reads and precisely throwing the ball. He credited that ability from his days in the Arena League where the qb was forced to make quck decisions. For a shorter stint than Bress he was one of the best qbs in the game.
  14. Simple solution. Type faster and more quickly hit send.
  15. As I responded to Starrymessenger I should have been clearer to what I meant. The issue isn't so much as being a first ballot HOF but being considered at the top or near top of the rankings and in the same discussion of the best ever with a qb such as Brady. If anyone argued that Brees was better than Brady I would not be dismissive of that view, although I would disagree with it. But for my money he is in that same lofty GOAT discussion.
  16. That's a fair point that I didn't clearly state. His genius goes beyond his great accuracy. He, like Brady, can almost instantaneously process what he sees and go through advanced progressions to get the ball to the receiver. You either have that ability or you don't.
  17. It's not a straw man argument. I put Brees in the same class as Brady. Plenty of people don't.
  18. I think that most people consider him worthy of the HOF. But I do believe that there are many people who don't consider him in the discussion with the best of the best such as Brady, Manning and Montana. I have him sitting at the same special small table designated for the all time best. .
  19. Anyone who doesn't believe that Brees is a first ballot HOFer is obtuse. He made incredible throws in more than a few do or die situations. He is a gem.
  20. When I think of Mularky I consider him one of those recycled coaches who are nondescript and indistinguishable from the other retread coaches. He's not a bad HC but he certainly isn't one of the good HCs. A coach such as McDermott is going to have his supporters and critics. At least there is a personality and presence about him. With a coach such as Mularkey there is nothing impressionable/impressive about him that would stoke an interest enough to make you care about such an invisible presence.
  21. You had an epiphany! What the hell is going on here. You are not the bile full vengeful fellow I once knew. Getting older sometimes means getting mellower. And sometimes it means getting more cantankerous.
  22. I didn't see Kirby's initial comments. If they were removed then I could't have read it. That's what I was asking about. If it was so inappropriate that doesn't mean that a general characterization of it would have been adequate enough to explain what he was referring to.
  23. Why apologize? His and her off field behavior certainly are worth considering when making a hire. If he was a drunk and a bar room brawler that background information clearly would be fair game to consider. If he had a history of battles with the players he coached it certainly would be considered and publicly commented on. Directed to SDS, What problem do you have with Kirby's initial comments about Haley? It was clearly stated and previously reported. I'm not challenging your view just trying to understand it.
