When Dona-slow was hired, I remember him saying something to the effect of not ever putting a coach on a pedestal. I wonder if that's why he never hired someone with experience. I like Mularkey - a lot - but I can't help feeling like an experienced coach would have us further along this season. Even Coughlin - as nuts as he is. On the other hand - a rookie coach like Mora Jr. is doing wonders in Atlanta. I don't know - just venting. Charles

John Though DB had his share of miscues today - all the reviews say Henry (and possibly the coaching staff) f'd up on that 4th and 3. Also, notice in the last 1:30, Harrison kept coming thru the same hole in a blitz and it seemed like no one even cared or noticed? Wassup with dat? I realize the temptation is to put JP in there for mobility etc. But behind this line, he'll just reinjure his fibula and we'll have to cart JP into a psych ward mumbling "Where did *HE* come from?" If we need to put some other QB in there - and I understand but disagree with the rationale - then I think it should be Matthews. Only if and when this O-line plays with pride (as they seemed to do in the 1st two quarters), do we risk our long term investment. Not until... Charles

I'm sure the popular cry is gonna be to bench the QB - but IMHO Bledsoe played really well under the circumstances. Ty Law and a NFL Network special talked about something called "situational football coaching" in NE. This is where the coaches practice possible game changing scenarios. That's part of the reason Bardy looks calm and collected passing from his own goal line. Our coaching staff hasn't done a good enough job of putting players in those situations and teaching how to respond. The problem right now is systemic. It's not one or two players making mental mistakes. It's almost everyone on the team. Even the vets. It's compounded by the coaching unable to get it into the players heads and avoid 100 penalty yards a game. It's bad when the HC can't get in the face of the DC and tell them to hold the other team at 3rd and a thousand. It's bad when the DC can't get in the face of a vet player and tell him to stop being a dumbass. The penalty mistakes occur when the players have a "Oh stevestojan" moment. This in turn indicates that they are not prepared to play that particular situation. I wasn't aware that we lost Jennings and Teague today. I still think the O-line could use more talent but right now they are just not being coached very well. I think based on the first two quarters of play they are a very serviceable unit. They just need to be put in positions to succeed. The problem is fixable - but I have a sick feeling that the coaches don't know how to yet... Charles

Fletcher is way overrated. I don't know why everyone talks about him like the second coming of Daryll Talley. The guy is a moron. And it seems like no one of the coaching or playing staff can get in his face to set him right. Charles

I think if you want to beat this D, you just take a knee on first down, get a sack or tackle behind the LOS for about 10 yards. Then convert your third and very long for a first down or TD pass. The official stats seem to bear this out. Charles

"What if the Hokey-Pokey is *really* what it's all about?"

I like Bledsoe and I think with the right O-line (and D-line) for that matter, we're a playoff team. But right now, he is not the right QB for this team. Someone needs to light a fire under the collective asses on the offense. Just no passion. A little fear that there be hell to pay if they screw up would get everybody's concentration up a few notches. Sigh...I really have no idea if they'll win or lose next at NE. Used to be that every time we had the ball I expected us to score. Now everytime we get the ball I expect some kind of screw up. Charles

Well that's the thing that perplexes me - why aren't they catching more passes. We have basically a scan and dump offense. Why not dump to a TE who can get some serious RAC yards. I mean our TEs are relatively athletic. I also support the sign Byron Chamberlain movement. Couldn't be any worse and certainly could be had for a vet minimum. C

What a Fish post here? ;-) No way!

I can't help thinking that the way the coaching staff wants this O to work, we need to get our TEs involved in pass catching as much as blocking. No one respects them in the passing attack. About damn time they earned their pay. Charles

about the players and the coaches... The awesome thing about the SB Bills was how they would bounce back. If the players and coaches respond this week we'll have some promise, if not - ?? I still think play calling is a our nemesis. Offensively and defensively. What was with the prevent on a QB who had done nothing all game? Also where was the deep ball? Come on - there's times when we have to take calculated risks. Fletcher is on my idiot watch - it's amazing how many dumb ass penalties are committed by vets. That's the disturbing thing about this team. Charles

Maybe the whining work - maybe it didn't. To be fair - the Bills had some questionable calls go ttheir way. That final play was good - whining or no whining. Maybe Mularkey was overwhelmed but I think he's a definite improvement over Williams on game day. C

Hey sfladave What program did you mean? Is there an automaton/lemming waiting list I can get on? That's pretty funny about the bit about Buff News reporter. I'm not trying to increase circ. God knows I don't think any of the WNY papers are real newspapers. The Buff News used to be decent but not anymore...But I digress... My point is simply this - no matter how hungry you are to start, I think Evans (as quoted by people here) and McGahee(also as quoted by folks here) have decided to take decidedly different tacks here as how to approach it. IMHO, Evans realizes he still has to prove himself in the NFL and is willing to learn (and more importantly earn) his way into the starting lineup. McGahee on the other hand (at least based on the quotes atrributed to him and his agent) seems: 1) To want to be handed the starting job. 2) Sulk if he doesn't get it. What's that bit about "unfortunately, it's he(Henry) who is starting" That's just BS. Whether he agrees or not - the appropriate response would have been something along the lines of - "You know I'm happy for Travis. I'm a competitor and obviously I want to start. But the competition is only going to make be better. In the meantime, I aim to learn as much as I can from a Pro Bowl running back and contribute as much as I can towards the team." Would that have been so difficult? It would have shown some maturity on his part - regardless of how much of a dip his agent is - and he could have quietened much of the static about this so called controversy. McGahee will be an amazing talent to watch provided he doesn't let his head explode. He's lucky to be a first round pick. Most of the projections had him going in the 3rd round or later. After the draft, I remember him in tears thinking he was going to go much later and how grateful he was that the Bills picked him in the 1st round etc. etc. What a difference a year makes. I'm not saying he should feel indentured or anything. He has shown flashes of brilliance. But I do think he thinks he shouldn't have to pay his dues. The guy in front of him, has had a 1400 yd season and is a tough SOB. Plays thru pain and has for all his faults put the team first. He drives me crazy when he fumbles. But until WM can achieve that same kind of attitude on the field, he has no business complaining about not getting the start. Again, a lot is missed in print - maybe he said all those things atrributed to him in a very humble tone. Somehow I don't think so. He's young but he does need to grow up. I hope one of the veterans or coaches (besides Henry) takes him aside and talks to him about his attitude. Again, let your playing do the talking. Charles PS. for the record I don't think Travis is perfect either but right now he's the man. In terms of track record and in terms of the coaches decision. WM just needs to get over it and "get with program."

You might be the mightiest RB to ever be drafted by the Bills - I doubt it. But maybe, just maybe... You should STFU and learn from your fellow rookie draftmate - and just let your playing do the talking. In the meantime, show some class and learn some respect. Please, please also talk to your bonehead agent about shooting **his** mouth off... Level headed Evans I love this quote: --- ''I'm sure my time will come,'' said Evans, who was limited to two catches for 12 yards. ''But right now, I've got to do the things that I've got to do to help this team win, whatever it may be.'' And by that, Evans means he's happy serving as a decoy to free up another receiver or throwing a block to spring a big play. ''We all just have to play our part,'' he said. --- Attaboy! Just do your thing - and your time will come.. How refreshing... Charles

hmm...I'm not Denney fan. But given he gave Kelsay a neck and neck race during camp & preseason and seems to have improved. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for another year. I still think it was a dumb ass move on TD's part to trade up to get him - but who knows he may be the second coming of Phil Hansen or something. Though I think Kelsay looks more and more like PH everyday. I just think Denney may be a late bloomer...But I seem to recall he slept in late on draft day and only heard he was picked thanks to a room-mate. Doesn't bode well for the future. Charlee

Sigh! The debate on whether we were justified going into Iraq not withstanding... I get your point (I think) ch19079. Although I think it's stupid to charge the kid with the WMDs charge. I do think it warrants treating it as a class 1 felony and trying to find out if there's more to it. ie. are there other kids involved etc. ala Columbine. But I also think you're right - if it was a Muslim kid, this wouldn't be a kid that was "just curious" - it would be a "jihad." I've thought similar things in the wake of 9/11 - prior to 9/11 Timothy McVeigh perpertrated one of the worst crimes against citizens of the US. Yet, he's just a "psycho." Whereas, now post 9/11 any Muslim - is a potential "terrorist." So now we have militia running around the woods of Michigan with AK-47s free of molestation. Yet, innocent folks on an airplane are pulled off for the sake of "national security." Also, no one barbed-wired Pendleton and Lockport after everyone discovered that was where McVeigh was from. Nor should those towns have been. But again this whole "they're all the same" mentality is just prejudiced and racist. It is a double standard. And unless the govt and our security agencies can call a spade, a spade - all the precautions we take to avoid another 9/11 is just a farce. Charles
