i'm not sure what the infatuation with Fabini is about. He was the worst player on a bad offensive line last season. Is he really that much of an upgrade over Gandy? I mean, I'm all for signing quality OTs - but I'm not for the signing of players, just for the sake of it... I'd rather take a run at Runyan...eventhough we have Peters at the RT position. Charles

Jamie Martin to be the 3rd QB in the mix?
cale replied to ACor58's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I doubt he'll get a real dollar figure even close to what he would have commanded before his injury. I mean I'd still give him a healthy signing bonus and that way you can pro-rate his charge over the contract. Maybe someone will offer him a crazy contract - but that's exactly what it would be - "crazy!" Not only does he have a shoulder tear, he has a rotator cuff tear. Now, in this era of being able to repair torn ACLs that might not be much, but it still is a sizeable risk. -

You know I agree, I don't understand all this puss-footing. Give him an incentive laden contract. Keep JP as backup or Holcomb. Unless they outperform Brees. I haven't given up on JP, but if you're on the win now bandwagon, this is probably the way to go, If Brees comes back to where he was before the injury, we're set for the next 3-5 years at least. Then we trade Losman next year and wish him the best. Just my 2 cents, Charles -
The biggest problem on the O-Line IMHO, is that since Ruben Brown left, there's been no halfway decent player that's also a leader ala Kent Hull. I know Teague being the most "senior" was the de facto guy. But, really no one who could whip these guys into a frenzy. I think Villarial, if he's healthy will step up, but we need someone with some experience and success to come in and act as the "glue." I see no one on our present roster capable on being "the man." Same thing with D-Line. Adams is no leader by example. Schoebel maybe. But, again no leader. I think as soon as we address the leadership factor, things will fall into place. So eventhough Ruben was a sure bet for holding every other play, his locker room influence is sorely missed. BTW, Chris Hovan I think would be a nice addition to our D line rotation. Charles

The irony is that good pass catching TEs who are above average blockers could be so vital to JP's or any rookie QBs development. But for whatever reason the TE went the way of the dodo after Riemersma left - OK Let's hear the jokes - come on you know you want to ;-) Just look at Miller with the Steelers and Shockey with the Giants. Even Witten in Dallas has been instrumental with Drew's game... QBs like TEs...I'm still not sure what Campbell is besides being a "fine young man." Charles

I knew all that was coming...

Henshaw was responsible for the development of TEs in TN. He got the most of out of the talent. Henshaw available Charles

Any guesses on who "previous Bills employees" are?

I don't think he is "McNair In His Heyday" elusive - but he's mobile. I can't remember which game, but this past season, he made one play where he was being chased by two guys and they had him in the grasp practically folded and he threw a laser to a WR. He got beat up. But, he limped to the huddle. Yelling at guys at sh*t - whooping it up. He's not a whoop it up guy - but it was like something got him goin...Funny as hell... As for the fumbleitis stuff - I don't remember him having a chronic problem with it ala Travis Henry. Small hands or not... I'm not suggesting we draft the guy - I don't think we've seen all we have to see of JP. I'm just saying Cutler is a wise investment for anybody who needs a QB. Charles -

I am at Vanderbilt. I'm not a Prof but I do teach and work here...Cutler is gonna be very good...I don't think he's NFL ready to start obviously. But, the thing is he's a leader and raises the play of the guys around him. The team seemed to believe that they had a chance with him at the helm. Remember we're talking Vanderbilt here... Your teammates believeing in you - you just can't coach that...plus he didn't have the supporting cast Leinart and Young had. He took the team to Florida and Tennessee and won at UT and lost at the Swamp in 2OT. Did he play some bad games? Absolutely...But I saw Eli Manning stink up the joint here at Dudley Field and still win because the rest of the Ole Miss team showed up. I don't think E.Manning is half the QB Cutler is - yet because of the Manning name he gets the press and the benefit of the doubt. I'm not saying Manning isn't gonna be successful, because I think he is, but Cutler with the same kind of support, will do just as well if not better... Charles -
although I like D'Brick - how can you not like an OLman with a name like D'Brick. I really think the only 2 sure things in the consensus first 10 are Bush and Ngata. Ngata has not only got the physical tools, he has the mental wherewithall to be successful. The others will very likely be successful, but I think it's gonna depend on where they land and how they're coached and schemes and such. I also think Jay Cutler has a better than 70-80% chance of being one of the gems of this draft. I work at Vanderbilt and let me tell you this guy in his senior year was better than some NFL QBs in terms of accuracy and leadership. Charles

Need corroboration - Saunders Bills' Top Choice?
cale replied to HeyNowBuffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Cool, he knows about both kind of "footballs" - he's from London, England. Some innovative offensive formations on tap, I think. Hire him. Seriously, I like this guy. Seems like the second coming of Marv...only younger.. Charles -
Belichik is a genius. He walked away from the Jets job after just one day.... Charles

Ya know I don't know what the deal is with Haz. This team needs someone who can confer mental toughness on this team. They need confidence. Haz doesn't strike me as someone who fits that bill. Never once have I since the NO team recently come from behind or play above their expectations. Not once... So, short of him being popular with the populace, I don't see reason 1 for him to be here. We could do worse certainly (and we have) but I just don't see it. We have enough nut cases on this team - we don't need one on the sideline. I think we should get Mike Sherman. My dream is Jeff Fisher. The guy can flat out coach. We need someone steady and focussed and can get the most of the players. Dick LeBeau is intriguing or Al Saunders. I'd even vote for Teddy Cottrell. But Haz? Yikes.... Charles

Regardless of what's been said about Ralph on this board, I think we'll *all* miss him when he's gone...I don't think he wanted to do this - but he's options were limited and he was backed into a corner. Sheesh...this is getting ugly... The only positive is that there's just one way we can go...up (please, hopefully, I'm praying...)...
-
I'm in - for him as the team president...Overall big boss... Modrak - Talent management Brandon - Business management There's also Ron Wolf and Bob Ferguson (ex-Bills Player Personnel Mgr, Az GM, Seattle GM)
-
He withdrew his name from consideration for the Temple job...I still think he's gone though...
-
Everything sounds reasonable - but "iffy" - cause the numbers are tight. If the numbers work out - I think that's a reasonable plan. I think the Russ Brandon call is great call. The guy's a genius - homegrown and everything... Charles

How about Steve Mariuchi for Head Coach ?
cale replied to Fan in San Diego's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If we switch coaches - and I'm not convinced that MM shouldn't stay, I think we need to bring in someone who can game day coach. Mooch isn't that guy. I like him - a lot. But, he's not what this team needs right now. We need someone who is mentally tough ala John Fox or Marvin Lewis or Parcells...not a Tom Coughlin type - whom I think is extreme - but someone from that same cloth you know? Plus Mariucci is gonna install the West Coast. I think that's way too complicated for an improv type QB. It worked in Green Bay - but that was because Holmgren imposed his will on Favre after long battles... I think we should hire Ron Wolf as GM and let him pick our coach. I like Dick Jauron. I also like Dick LeBeau. Plus LeBeau knows the terrritory here. But, the guy I really, really want here - and I think we have a less than 25% chance of getting him is Jeff Fisher. The guy can flat out coach. His players respect him and if someone is not producing, he can push the right buttons to get them to where they need to be. They just happen to be defensive coaches...I'm not opposed to offensive type coaches. I think anybody would have to be an idiot to let Wyche go in the midst of a damn good job of developing a young QB. -
I heard the press conference by JP yesterday - but I honestly didn't feel he was "ripping" them as much as voicing support for his team. It's ironic that in a profession that criticizes people all the time, the guys doing the actual ripping think they were being ripped? Thank goodness it wasn't Parcells or Coughlin or Vince Lombardi. Crazy...
-
Look all this cut Moulds stuff is crazy talk. He hasn't had stellar year I'll grant you. But who on this offense has? Sure he his discouraged. But, defenses still roll coverages to his side and he's still the money target for JP. Getting rid of him will only stunt JP's growth and worse, make an anemic offense even more forlorn. I think TD has to try to get him to restructure. If all else fails, they could cut him, but only if someone like a Reggie Wayne is coming here (probably for *more* $$, not less than $5M). You also can't underestimate QB to WR chemistry. Plus he's a crafty, sly mofo - off all the veterans on this team, this guy is the one who is the most beneficial to the youngsters. I just don't see the logic for the sake of saving the coin...The last time we did this, we turned our D-line into Running Back Expressway... Yee Gads... Charles

I love Kaia...Is it from the Greek for "Earth"? Per Aussiew, folks might be confused about spelling - but maybe they'll learn something - God forbid... I'm a "new" parent - we have a 2.5 year old girl. She rocks!! The thing I have learnt is to just provide them with a safe environment and nurture/encourage their natural curiosity. They kind of come with their own "program" and if you just let them be, they'll blossom. The truth is no one else but you and your partner knows how best to parent this particular child. You should always seek counsel from people that you respect and incorporate things you like into your parenting style. Ditto for books. But, books and advice deal with the average baby or toddler or worse, some other baby or child... Your child will never be average (at least in your eyes)... Trust her to show you...Trust yourself... Hang on for a hell of a ride...say goodbye to a goodnight's sleep... Good luck, Charles

Hmm...I looked up his combine stats - 330 and 4.9 Ben Watson was 4.53 Is there really that much of a difference? Marv Levy used to say there's something called "game speed." A 330 lb monster running under 5 secs rushing at me would look pretty intimidating... Look I don't know what it takes to play TE in the NFL - but s*** seems to me he couldn't be any worse than the sorry crew we've got now... But, they do mention on the NFL.com site that a lot of scouts thought even if Peters was a TE coming out, would be the best OT taken - so there's your case ;-) Charles
-
I don't know if Peters is gonna be great - but he would be a ridiculous mismatch for defenses. Plus the size, speed, hands combo is unheard of. Shouldn't that be the point? I think the other suggestions make sense. Also agree with "stuckincincy" in terms of rebuilding interior line. Charles
