Time to give Cowher the keys to the kingdom
cale replied to cale's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sal or Leo from the D&C were saying on their podcast that the Bills don't comment on contracts until they've been signed. The Bills have not commented on Jauron's contract. YMMV. C -

Some reason from Vinnie Iyer of Sporting News

I like Vinnie. He's always reasonable. However there's a difference between having good young players (I don't dispute this at all) and knowing what to do with them. I think Jauron is good at forming character on a team. It's not clear to me that he knows what to do with players on game day. This team might have learnt all they can from Jauron. It's time for the next step in their evolution. C -
I was wondering what folks would want to see in this team and in the organization to make you think this isn't just an exercise in futility anymore. I'll start: 1) Get a proven HC. Like Cowher, Mariucci, I don't know who else is available. But someone who is speaks softly but carries a big stick. If Fox is out in NC, I'd take him. 2) Draft a lineman (Center, Guard or Pass Rusher). With the next pick take a TE or OLB. It would also be acceptable to switch positions in the 1st and 2nd. If Tebow is available when we pick, I'd seriously consider it. 3) Get a proven, quality veteran QB as backup. This whole waiting for a QB to develop business is for the birds. A young QB can sit and learn as well. 4) Revamp the scouting and FA department. God, how I miss Dwight Adams and AJ Smith. 5) Make players accountable. Coaches have to get in the ear hole of players and tell them to lead. Not wait for someone to lead them. C

Folks blaming Jauron are way off the mark
cale replied to The Big Cat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If we had won that game, I would have still been furious. There's a catalog of all the things Jauron did wrong here. The lame ass time outs. The not sitting the QB. Not being aggressive etc. etc. The only good thing about the loss is that we are not glazing over the pathetic game management which IMO ultimately cost us the game. True Lindell gets paid to make those kicks. But it never should have come down to that. Our D was bringing it. Ultimately our thin secondary got burned. You have to put your players in a position to win - not dig them a hole. C -

Amen. I was a Jauron supporter. I thought a calm, intelligent and even tempered guy was going to be good for this team. But there's more to it than that. I get that now. I think he's probably a very good human being. But he has no business being HC. That's apparent to me now. There are not many Jeff Fishers and Belichiks in this world. But I am willing to bet there are some above average coaches in the league and presently out of a job that can take the same players and have a 7-8 win record. To think we had a chance at Tom Coughlin and John Fox. OMFG. I think our next HC *has* to be a proven guy. Someone who has won the big one in some capacity either as HC or an assistant. Not a retread either. Just someone who was in a bad situation. Maybe Mooch. Maybe we need some Marty Ball. I don't know. But if I am Russ Brandon, I'm building a short list. And if Bobby April isn't in the top 5, someone needs to slap him silly. C -
A QB's confidence, or lack thereof

Great post. IMHO - KC Is licking their chops. C -
I think he was great at camp. Of course, like all our All Fisher standouts - the coaches took a long time to come around (Greer, Jackson, etc.) I also think the Lynch off season incident had something to do with it. He was supposedly the other guy in the SUV and was the one that squawked forcing Lynch to own up. So I think there was some sour grapes from the rest of the team and the coaches. Regardless, the draft scouting sites liked this pick a lot. Here's why. C
-
There's nothing wrong with conservative football. Jeff Fisher is a conservative coach. Tom Coughlin is a conservative coach. Now, gutless that's a whole other discusssion... C

I disagree. When you are 5-4 and in the hunt. The object is to win games to get to the playoffs. If ever there was a scenario to bench TE and let JP play, last night was it. There were incredible efforts last night that went wasted because our coaching staff was gutless. JP should have started the second half or late in the 3rd. I like TE, he'll be fine. But the object here is to win. Not grant your 2nd year QB training wheels. An essentially rookie QB outplayed him last night. There's ways to help a QB who is struggling and/or new. None of that was exhibited last night by our coaches. It seemed like a "let's just keep our fingers crossed here" strategy. That was straight up BS. C

What he said...But coaches contracts in the NFL *are* guaranteed. So that's the only thing. But it's not clear that the new contract has been signed. C -
I love football and the Bills
cale replied to olivier in france's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
With all due respect, the worst thing that could happen now is that we make the playoffs. That would just make the ostriches stick their heads in the sand at OBD. I sure hope to God that Jauron's extension isn't signed. C -
The worst thing about this season
cale replied to cantstopbeastmode's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think our QB will be OK. He'll get out of his funk. But to not know what to do in the meantime as HC is inexcusable. You sit the guy. C -
It's time for the Donahoe sins to be redeemed. Cowher needs to be here. I doubt he'll come. Cause he's worked for a similar owner before. But I would try everything in my power to get him. I love Jauron. But it's clear he doesn't have a feel for the game or how to motivate his players and coaches. Time to say good bye. Hell, I'd settle for Bobby April. The last time we hired a ST coach as HC turned out pretty well for us. C

Is Jauron the worst head coach in the league?
cale replied to KD in CA's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree. That first int wasn't Trent. But as a HC you need to have a feel for these things. Everybody on the planet could see that TE was gun shy. You can't hide your QB. You sit him for this game and let your backup play. Who by the way has experience. When you win the friggin game. You come out and say next week Trent starts. If a QB's confidence is that fragile, he can't play in this league. I'm for giving Bill Cowher the keys to the kingdom. C -
You know I like April too. He just seems like he knows strategy and how to motivate. This would save us having to blow the whole thing up (again). I think we have the talent. Just a few more pieces are needed. But today I think DJ wrote his pink slip. I love him as a person. But his calling is not that of HC. C

The bone-heads that want to dump Trent

Jaws said it - You can't hide your QB. There would have been nothing wrong with sitting your QB - no matter how much he is a part of your future (see VY in Tenn.) when he is (way) off his game. The object is to win games. That or you risk losing your team. A rookie (with all *his* growing pains) outplayed him tonight. I thought everyone else played well. Was encouraged by the Oline and the play of Steven Johnson. The D wasn't perfect but good enough to win. Yet, our QB stunk up the joint and cost us the game. Plain and simple. He needs to sit. Temporarily. C -

We've become chicken sh*t cowards...

Wow. Thanks for the laugh. I was a JP supporter. But dude, Edwards is so much the better QB. I think it would be best for all parties concerned if JP goes elsewhere. SF maybe. At any rate, we'll be doing JP a favor by letting him go. This franchise has bigger problems than the QB position. The Kelly-led Bills must be squirming watching this team. No fire whatsoever. C

Does anyone have the feeling....
cale replied to THEDuganWolcott's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
to be honest, I'm dreading tonight. I don't know why...Bad things, man. Bad things... They have just been called out by their vet RB and their coach is saying, "We're not quitters..." I don't know. I feel nauseous. C -
Amen, brother. This is mostly a veteran line. I mean how much more can we invest in the line. Sure our center is average,, but come on no line in the NFL is perfect. Like I said in another thread - this line is the NYS Thruway to our QB & RB. C
-
You know what bothers me about this line? They are the NYS Thruway to our QB and RB. I can understand if they're a bunch of neophyte rookies. But everyone of them has more than 2 years experience. At least 3 of them are league veterans. It's shameful how they lack motivation. C

Quotes from Bills players and coaches lately

IF we beat Cleveland, will you feel more optimistic?
cale replied to Alden Bulldog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It depends. Just remember that this team kicked our ass in Dec last year in the snow. You can also bet that a fair number of CLE fans will be in the house. So they already have book on TE. The question then becomes how well can we block their DTs. Right now I am not very optimistic. Our OL is a version of the NYS Thruway - just toll free. They can't open up holes for our RBs. Their pass blocking is schizophrenic. Edwards either has enough time to grill burgers back there or he is flat on his ass at Half Mississipi. Depending on which OL shows up, we either have a 40% chance of victory or no chance. Hopefully Stroud and Mitchell will be factors in our D. If not, Jamal Lewis will be running rough shod over our "elite" D. C
