  1. We could pick the day before the draft and it wouldn't matter. Except for DBs we can't seem to evaluate worth &*!@. C
  2. I love our "rolling bunch of butcher knives." He kinda reminds me a bit of Darryl Talley. Albeit less talented. Unsung but productive and a real football player. I bet he'd kill on a real defensive team like Baltimore. C
  3. I really think the best GM/Coach combo would be the following; David Gettleman/Jim Fassell *if* We don't get Cowher or the so called "big names" I like Grimm. But I think Fassell would be a better fit. He's been out of the NFL - but I think he's hungry enough to want to get this right. Plus I think Gettleman with his years in Buffalo would work well with JF and know how to build a "Buffalo style" hard nosed team. I'm also not opposed to Gettleman and Grimm coming in together. C
  4. I don't think it makes a bean of difference. We need someone who can help develop a QB first. That's the one thing all the good QBs have. Even Kelly had Marchibroda. Manning has Moore. Brady had Belichik/Weis. Right now our staff couldn't develop photographs at WalMart. C
  5. David Gettleman or Michael Lombardi would be my choices. Then I'd look at Floyd Reese - maybe. But I don't get the fascination with Greg Gabriel. Sure he was from Buffalo. But the Chicago org. hasn't hit big time in terms of scouting college and pro players except for that one year. Plus they're struggling and are perennial almosts the last few years. How is that good? C
  6. I also wouldn't mind taking a long hard look at Jim Fassel. Provided we have a solid GM in place.
  7. I like Grimm. But I don't understand why we would trade one inexperienced HC for another inexperienced HC. I'm betting dollars to donuts that if Fewell got the job, he could convince Martz to come coach offense. They worked together in STL. Didn't they? Other than that, I guess I'd choose Bilick. But what we *really* need if we don't get Shanahan or Cowher, is a solid reputable, current football/personnel type GM. C
  8. I think Grimm will be OK. I don't know why Fassel doesn't come up more in these discussions. Also, I didn't think this would happen - but Fisher here in TN may be on his way out. There might have been a breach of contract by Bud Adams when he forced Fisher to play Young: http://bit.ly/6kcTwx Fisher is a conservative coach - but he does know how to hire an OC. See Heimerdinger. C
  9. It's the same every year - but this year we would have been closer. I can't help thinking that if Jauron was fired earlier, say after the Browns debacle and Fewell coached the rest of the way, it would have been more realistic. As it is that and the injuries to the OL have made us toast. That being said I wonder what would happen if we beat the Patriots at home. Would Fewell stay and maybe he brings Martz in to coach the O? C
  10. And if I'm reading this right, it's only for the uncapped years... http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Report...ue-sharing.html
  11. I don't watch much college football but I like what little I've seen of Pike. He isn't very mobile - he'd get killed behind this line. But his frame is big enough to take a licking and keep on tickin'... I'd rather draft/sign a LT first. C
  12. I think it depends on how far away you think this team is away from success. If you think it's a 1-2 year project, then I would draft the best available LT. If you think we're further away than that, I'd draft the best available QB first or trade down for more picks to get either a LT and then a QB in Rd. 2 or if one of the best QBs falls down to where we are, draft him and then pick a LT in the second. In either case, our Mike Williams not withstanding - OTs tend to have better ROIs in terms of higher draft positions. I wouldn't overpay but I'd consider trading for a backup QB that comes from a franchise that has a good history with developing QBs. Some of the guys I've been intrigued with is Troy Smith (a bit short) and Seneca Wallace. Also I don't think you can underrate Brohm. If we get an offensive minded coach, his development may be re-energized. Personally, I'd like to see Tebow or Pike in a Bills uniform. But I think the smart money is on us taking a LT, we just have too many issues. We may also need a dominant big ass DT. C
  13. Just say No to Ruskell.
  14. Bills vs Jax. Rich Stadium. October 18, 1998. Doug Flutie's first start. Naked Bootleg. Game over. Legend begins...I never thought any sports venue could get THAT loud...OMFG. I've never been able to shake the Bills since. C
  15. I don't think Floyd Reese is all that. IMHO Buddy Nix is a better football guy. We need someone who is a football czar type of person who can see the big picture. I think the guy we want is an Ernie Accorsi/Ozzie Newsome type of guy. The pro personnel person in the Giants organization, can't remember his name now, might be that guy. I'm not convinced Mike Holmgren is that person either. If Phil Savage hadn't had that meltdown in Cleveland, I'd be rooting for him. But as it is, I really think our options are limited. Maybe one of the Muellers - Randy or Rick. Possibly Charlie Casserly. But given that in terms of results - the Ravens and Giants organization has had the best FO plans, I'd look there. C
  16. I don't know much about college QBs - I like Tebow. I don't know how his ability will translate to the NFL. But I like his fire. But someone here has been championing Pike from Cincinnati. I saw the Cin v Ill game on Saturday and I like how he played. But that was just one game. So maybe if he plays that way week to week, I'll support that pick. His temperament and style I think will play well here in Buffalo. Plus he plays in a northern town, in the elements - outdoors. Lots to be said for that. C
  17. It's Fisher not Fischer. Bud Adams is just crazy enough to do it, but I wouldn't count on it. Unless he thinks he can fire Fisher and promote Dinger. Adams wants to see VY succeed at all costs. If Fisher is fired, he becomes the prime candidate in San Diego. C
  18. I couldn't agree with you more. I don't get this infatuation with Shanahan. Maybe Ralph has been reading Shanny's press releases. You know the ones that start with "The Genius" Mike Shanahan. C
  19. Why has Steve Mariucci not been mentioned for consideration? At least, I haven't seen his name brought up. He's a good, smart, strategist. Plus he won a Super Bowl with Steve Young. Didn't he? He's also from the same coaching tree as Gruden. It seems some guys who have been out of the NFL and/or not doing so well elsewhere are being brought up like Trestman, Weiss and Haslett. Mooch has the experience plus I think he'd fit in well in working class Buffalo. Yeah, he won't get along with TO - but TO is gone anyway. If Martz wasn't an arrogant SOB, I'd think he'd be on the short list. C
  20. I don't think Gruden would have been a good choice. He's not the kind of coach players go out and play for and he is borderline self absorbed. He's an offensive scheme guy yet he hasn't developed any QB of consequence in about 5-8 years. That with having a revolving stable door of QBs in his barn. That being said, he seemed to be infatuated with Bills on MNF this season. I am surprised he didn't bite on the offer. He really must love TV. C
  21. I think Shanahan would be a great hire - if he also wasn't the GM type person. I'm all for him bringing in an operations/GM type to be a sounding board and challenge him on player evals and selection. Even NE was better with both Belicheat *and* Pioli. I think teams need to be benevolent dictatorships, but you still need a right hand man.
  22. Stefanie Spielman died at 42. Makes you wonder why they want to change the minimum age at which women get mammograms. Insanity. NY Times: http://bit.ly/6IDNY C ps. Perhaps the mods can change the thread topic to reflect the correct spelling of her name. It's Stefanie not Stephanie.
  23. My heart goes out to the Spielman family. Chris is brave and courageous. But nowhere near as courageous as his wife. Brings back memories of my sister in law. Sympathies and prayers. So Sad.
  24. It's not unfortunate. But we'll probably interview Fewell for the HC position at the end of the season. Since he would now be an interim. That, if I am correct, will fulfill the Rooney Rule requirement. C
  25. The best coach in the world won't mean S*&T if they don't get a good personnel guy and improve their scouting. Maybe Buddy Nix will now be more integral in the organization.
