  1. The best case scenario with Frazier - whom I believe will be our next HC. He comes here. Brings Darrell Bevell as Asst HC/OC or Rob Chudzinski(who made Derek Anderson look like a world beater). We trade for McNabb (Childress used to be his OC - hopefully they'll implement a similar system here). Use the 1st pick in the draft for a LT or get Marcus McNeil from SD. See what Brohm can do with a full off season and with Blevell as his OC. Then take a QB with next year's first pick if necessary. Unless Tony Pike falls into 3rd or 4th this year. If we can't get McNabb, I'd get Chudzinski here and trade for Derek Anderson - for not more than a 5th. Now the worse case scenario is that we trade for Tavaris Jackson... If Frazier fails - we might as well call the moving trucks... C
  2. I'm with the post here that said,"Why set yourself up for failure?" and more so for unhappiness? It's better to deal with the devil you know. I'm fortunate enough to be in a career that's in high demand. The situation I'm in now is not perfect but pretty dang close. It would take a lot for me uproot my family and our little stake in a very nice, fun city. There would have to be an astronomical raise in salary, a lot of control (ie a hands off boss) and a great city. There would be only 2-3 cities that IMHO fit the bill. I'd also need to know that I'd have a good chance of success, funding and that it would be a nice place to raise a family. With all that's gone on with the Bills the last few years (firings, good players being let go, an owner who is by no means hands off), i can totally see a coach remaining where he has been successful until he knows for close to sure that he can be successful elsewhere (infrastructure, personnel & resources). Right now the Bills can't guarantee any coach that. It would have to be a gigantic leap of faith and a belief that they can make steak from chopped liver if they had to. Just my 2 cents. C ps. Do we even like Brian Schottenheimer? Or are we just upset that he turned down our interview? So we can then reject him because he isn't right guy. I suspect we just don't like being dumped but rather have a chance to dump the candidate.
  3. We need to interview Fassel and Billick don't we? I mean c'mon. The have previous HC experience and know offense. I don't know why our FO hasn't lined that up. C
  4. He wants to say No specifically to the Buffalo Bills and possibly the Raiders. But he wants the rest of the NFL to know that he is available. He's just being classy about the whole thing and not coming out and saying it. If he did say "No", the assumption might be that he's not available to coach at all in 2010. That is clearly not the case. Right now, I'd settle for Eric Taylor. C
  5. Can we get Jason Peters back with this deal too? If so, I'm all for it. C
  6. Yeah, he's got Fitz, Brohm & Edwards to work with here. He should jump all over that... C
  7. Look for an established, experienced GM? Us? Why would we? Given all the success we've had recently? Oh, wait a minute...
  8. In the category of assistant without HC experience, I'd vote for Ron Rivera. He has been successful wherever he has worked and he gets max effort out of even second tier guys. He works with what he has and puts players into schemes that help them succeed. He took the SD job partly because he didn't have 3-4 experience in his resume. That shows me something. Players love him and he also knows how to motivate them. I think sometimes there is a tendency to over analyze in the NFL. Look at the game film. He makes things work. C
  9. I saw the segment on NFL Countdown. They weren't saying Garrett was a sleeper candidate. They were saying he "possibly could" be a sleeper candidate. They were definite about Brian Schott-mer being a sleeper. Rotoworld must just regurgitate what other newsfeeds carry. C
  10. John Fox can void the final year of his contract. This was just reported on NFL Sunday Countdown. If i were Buddy I'd do the hard sell on Fox and see if he wants to leave being a lame duck coach. This will give Cowher and us what we want - a good, credible, experienced coach who wants to be where he is wanted. C
  11. Maybe the don't know who those guys are?
  12. Irrelevant. Payton was interviewed twice before New Orleans and even then Loomis took a leap of faith. Same with Billick. Sometimes the coach isn't ready and they grow and become qualified later (or not).
  13. Just one more point, You can't run/own a franchise "scared" anymore than you can coach a team "scared." Nothing we've done in the past month or so says "Bold & Gutsy" - just doing "What we know." The Browns now have Holmgren and Heckert in their FO. That's smart & bold. Same rust belt city, same kind of fans. A very different owner. Can you run a team with an ownership "trust"? ;-) C
  14. Interesting thoughts all around. Leslie Frazier might be the second coming of Tony Dungy and Bill Cowher combined but he won't have a chance to prove that. Mostly because more than anything else this franchise needs credibility and belief by the NFL and the fans that we are serious and committed to winning. The only way that comes is we have a coach with a successful proven track record and an organizational structure that proves the important decisions are being made by a competent front office. I like Nix. But the way he was hired just blows. When the Bruce Allens, Tom Heckerts, Marc Ross' and Eric Da Costas of the world were available, we "didn't know them." You can bet the Seahawks, Browns and other teams know who they are. That just has made Nix hire hard to accept within the fan base and the general NFL community (media inc.). Now, if we hire whom by all accounts is a good coach and a stand up guy, because he was the best option among the second tier coaches when Billick, Fassel and now what looks like Fisher or Fox can be had if we wanted to pursue this to the hilt, just is a tough uphill struggle. I'm pretty sure Cowher doesn't want the gig or he would have been all over it like flies on you know what. Less coverage, not enough buzz, less tickets sold - will force the FO to pull a dumb ass stunt like the TO signing to sign maybe Mike Vick - just to generate excitement. Not because he would be the best QB option for us. Or draft Tebow in the first round because he is the most popular college player out there. Then all of a sudden things implode because we're making decisions based on the franchises survival rather than good, credible football decisions because we can't afford to make solely those kinds of decisions. And because the soon to expire owner is experiencing a sense of urgency but unwilling to give up control because he is afraid someone is gonna run his NFL legacy and property into the ground. More than the fans, like any father, he feels beholden to his children. Then in 3-4 years rinse and repeat. It will have nothing to do with How good or bad Frazier is. C ps. my friend who works for the national media asked me if I've thought of supporting another NFL Franchise. He wasn't trying to be cruel. He was genuinely concerned about the long term viability of the franchise at least in WNY. If it wasn't for who owns the Titans, I'd begin to consider it at least on a part time basis for my sanity.
  15. Someone i know works for a national publication as a sports reporter/blogger, he says Jay Glazer is the best at getting inside info. After the past few weeks I have to concur. He says Peter King is losing it. Mort is just ornery. And Schefter since leaving NFL.com is not privy to some of the same sources as before. C
  16. If I were him, I'd get on the Steelers. No matter how well he does in DC, the credit will go to the "Genius." C
  17. Welcome to new media, the use of regional/grassroots online news channels that tend to be more favorable to the source. This is why the national/established pipelines are running scared. They can't move as fast or be as connected as the local guy. Plus they can't spin it to fit their own agendas. C
  18. I do like the Chris Palmer idea though.
  19. Saunders' system is the equiv of the T2 on offense. The only guy who could successfully run it was Todd Collins. This is definitely not the read and react kind of system that we need here. I like what the Vikings or Saints or Colts(albeit more complex) run. Why can't we use that? C
  20. I like Hangman. He's been a great and underrated FA addition. In I don't know how many years...
  21. According to OchoCinco, there is such a thing as sexual healing ;-) http://bit.ly/5FL6qO C
  22. My only problem with this hire, if we hire him, is that in spite of Brad Childress being there as an offensive guru, their QBs sucked until Favre fell into their laps. C
  23. I think this observation is true. But by most accounts, Snyder is a megalomaniac and a bully. I think to some extent most NFL owners are megalomaniacs - but Snyder takes it to another level. Why would a sane person like Shanahan want to work in that sort of environment? My initial post was a question more of the organizations and owners themselves as opposed to the city. I think DC is a great city the politicians not withstanding. But as a HC you're not gonna see much of any city you're in except for the off season. Though if Shanny has designs on politics after coaching, he'd be in the right place. The only thing Snyder has that Ralph doesn't in the ownership dept. is money, IMHO. So the Bills have less margin for error. Snyder just throws money at it and it seems to soften the national PR blow. No matter how many coaches end up running for the hills after the Redskins gig, it still seems like a "desirable" job. That was my main comment on the situation. C
  24. There isn't one coach hire in DC since Snyder has been owner that has resulted in success. Save maybe Schottenheimer who was fired as well. Snyder is just as meddlesome, if not more so than Ralph. The Redskins are just as dysfunctional if not worse. And yet Snyder is from a national perception is better positioned. Why? Just because he has more money? There's an old saying, "Money can't buy common sense" This is pure BS. The guy has money but doesn't know what to do with it or how to treat people. Yet the Bills are ignored and marginalized. Weird and screwed up. C
  25. Hmm...Jasper...sounded to me like the Bills were about to make a big offer...Mea culpa.
