I think Bates will be fine. If we hire him. Bit of a weird looking dude though...remember those Coke bottle glasses? Anyways,I don't know why everyone equates 4-3s to the namby pamby T2. The 4-3 can be aggressive and high pressure if you put some big fat guys in the middle. See the version Baltimore and Minnesota play. I'll take that. C

I think you maybe right. But I would hate to use a #9 pick on a player who can't immediately contribute. But between the Gailey hire and Nix's Florida connections I wonder if they're putting things in place to design an offense around Tebow. When our pick comes around, I hope they survey the landscape and choose the best value lineman, preferably OL, at that position. If Bradford falls that far, I'd give it a long hard look. His injury history would give me pause. If not, I'd trade down for an extra 2nd. Pick a lineman. Then use both 2nds and trade back into the 1st for Tebow, if they're crazy about him. If not I'd go DL or LB next or hold for Pike or Tebow (if he falls that far). I personally don't think there's much to choose between the QBs after Bradford. I personally think the best value QB in this year's draft is Pike. If they friggin' pick McCoy I'll slit my wrists... I'd try and trade for McNabb for a 2nd or 3rd. Then use our first pick for a franchise LT. C

Really, you think Nix's only real is judging talent? Take a look at Bill Polian and see what a great prototype GM should look like. He came up as a scout and yes judging talent is a big part of the job. But a GM's job is to run and manage the entire football operations of a team. Our model is a joke. Nix has been fond of saying how there's no school/course for being a head coach. Well, there ain't one for GMs either. Guess what folks, as much I think Nix is likable, we're on his learning curve as a GM. His PCs prove it. Hopefully all of that will be overcome by his ability to judge talent - coaching, players and otherwise. Where's my rosary? C

Anyone remember Wade Phillips saying he slammed his fist on the table of the "financial guys" when they said he had to let Ted Washington go? He said something to the effect of "Ted Washington can still play. As long as I am coach here he has a job." And I think that was the year the let some team stalwarts like Thurman Thomas go. God I miss Wade. C

He's in the right age group...

Everywhere you turn, the Bills and Raiders are linked

qualified candidates to replace John Guy
cale replied to RocBillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
IMHO Modrak is not the issue. The guy is a good evaluator of talent. He doesn't pull the trigger on selections. He & Nix are cut from the same cloth - kinda. I'd like to see a list of players he was hot for and didn't get selected by the Bills. But I think he did the best he could under the chaos in the FO. I do wish he would spend more time at OBD though. he might be a good influence. He was the guy who picked Donovan McNabb. If we want to see McN here, he's our link. C -
qualified candidates to replace John Guy

Good call, dude. -
There is a God. To me this was more important than any other termination at OBD. C

Normally the pro personnel guy is "next in line" for GM at most franchises. I hope they hire a great up and comer from a well run organization (Pipe dream I know). So that when Nix retires (which should be any day now since he didn't want this job), there is someone waiting in the wings. C

I emphatize. Feel better. C

It's not personal with Chan....BUT
cale replied to filthymcnasty08's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He wasn't offered the job per most media sources. They can't not until his team is done in the playoffs. That's not to say they could not have had an "understanding" with him. C -
Yes!

For All Those That Didn't Want Frazier...
cale replied to PDaDdy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You know in the long run, I'm happy for Frazier. He deserves a lot more than what the abomination of a franchise called the Bills would have gave him. He'll be a superstar coach ala Dungy with Dungy probably partnering with him somewhere where both their stars will shine brightly. And we'll be wondering of what might have been... Again... C -
I live in the South. The Titans are the home town team. You can bet the pressers are no way near "Deliverance" as the Bills' was this PM. The guy was hired because he fits the present culture at OBD. Make no mistake about it, it's old guys feeling comfortable with other old guys and not wanting to step into the 21st century. That would necessitate an in-touch with the NFL GM (there were many of those candidates available). Cowher recommended Gailey because he would fit what the GM & Owner wanted. Not because he was the best thing for the franchise in the long term. Our credibility just went thru the floor. Our only positive is that we are better than the Raiders. I'm not sure for how much longer. C

Nix mentioned that he received around 15 calls......
cale replied to sven233's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He's an idiot to have found Gailey after that many calls...I'm presuming the bad economy has something to do with it. But the Mapco attendant or Wall Street rejects don't count. C -
This is why we have The Rooney Rule.

Mike Lombardi's take on this trainwreck of a hiring
cale replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Are you serious, take carries from our most productive RB and give them to a kid who has issues? The fact is this whole organization after 10 years of dysfunction needed was a whole body enema and what we got instead is the same binging and choking of/in their own poop. I agree with Lombardi. C -
After 10 years of being in the NFL wilderness. Of being gutted and avoiding success, this is the inspired hire that got Fewell and April let go? Wow, what was the matter? Did they not know Frazier? Did they not know or heard of Billick? Or even Jim Fassell for that matter? Old owner, old GM, green CEO hire a coach who has been out of the NFL polishing his coaching chops in the ACC. Holy crow...The Bills sure make it easy to not be a fan. This is a total abomination to the memory of the SB teams. If they hire him as HC over qualified guys like Billick, Frazier, Fassell or Fewell. I'm done. C

What is different between the Jets last year and now?
cale replied to DarthICE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wow, you really think with the talent we have on the Bills and Ryan and Sanchez we would be similar in terms of success. The Jets FO drafted well especially on the OL. And they got some key FAs. Sanchez would be shellshocked and wimpering behind our line. And our D wouldn't have given him much help. C -
Cleveland fires front office personnel people Browns Get To Work Holmgren believes stability has arrived. Holmgren provides stability “It was my charge by our owner to find the best people I can find for these positions, and then define their roles and let’s go,” he said as Lerner kept a low profile in the back of the room. “I just believe they know they’re going to get this job done. I don’t think this is business as usual. We will not continue to have these kind of press conferences. We’re all in it for the long haul.” Wow, imagine that. Wonder if our GM and CEO would be similarly inspired...and if our owner gives them a similar edict and steps into the background. C
