This guy's about to finish walking the length of the Amazon.
cale replied to Thurman#1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thanks Thurman - just tweeted about this. Amazing!! -
Couldn't disagree more. We don't have those top notch playmakers - but we've got more than some other nations in the cup. Coaching is super conservative and not creative at all. The long ball down the middle is just done. I think Bora would have done more with this team. Bradley is just inexperienced in the national arena and it shows. Agreed. He's awful at picking a side that accentuates the US strengths and counteracts/neutralizes the opposition. Also agreed. It's almost like he can't get this team to believe in itself. Truth be told this team's luck just ran out. How many times can you concede early and expect to recover. I don't think this is the best 22 in the country by a long shot. We have better players not in the squad. That being said his son is one hell of a football player. C

My gut says that Meredith will be our starting LT before the season begins. Unless we sign a vet or a 3-4 year second tier starter. Bell IMHO isn't aggressive enough and Wang is a project.

Got it. Thanks for clarifying. Hard to decipher tone on the InterWeb. Sarcasm noted :-)

Have you read the comments here on the board? As far as I am concerned he is saying the same thing we have been saying here for a long time now. Except he has a national platform to say it. He says he loves the fans and thinks the organization is dysfunctional. Cant say I disagree. Until the organization proves him otherwise, he is on the money. As are we. C
-
We have a lot of unknowns. I think he's spot on on all except as to how we will perform. That remains to be seen. Not sure even the coaches know. We probably won't have an idea until well into training camp. C

Personally I think the ascension of Doug Whaley will coincide with the passing of Ralph. I hope the Bills stay in WNY or if worse comes to worst, in Toronto. But Whaley I think will bring back a Golden Age for the Bills. He'll hire younger, hungrier FO and maybe even coaches for us to get to where we need to be. Just as long as no one interferes, we'll be alright. C

Antonio Rodgers Cromartie (Arizona Cardinals) is not the same player as a Antonio Cromartie (Jets, formerly SD Chargers). One is a Pro Bowl Cornerback. The other is an All Pro "player" in the bedroom apparently. The later being drafted by the same power structure in which Nix was part of the decision process. C
-
I believe all it takes for someone to be in the power structure at OBD is that RW has to "know" the guy. He got to know Russ as he came up in the organization and now considers him his son. Doug Whaley was a Nix hire but it also shows which model Ralph wants to emulate in terms of building a franchise. Low overhead, high return. The difference is the Rooneys let their football people run the show. I think Nix is an adequate hire. But I think we missed several opportunities to hire a great GM this offseason. All based on comfort factor for RW. Ralph is as old school as it gets. There's some good things from that, but on the whole I think we need more luck than talent to be successful with the way RW runs his football business. He values loyalty more than a successful track record. C

Tim Tebow Brings his Magic to Memphis
cale replied to DrDawkinstein's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
1 Peter 3:15 - "but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect" C'mon man, we can play this game all day. Also my dog is a creature and she ain't becoming a Christian anytime soon. There's an appropriate context for each passage and chapter in the Bible, lifting those quotes out to justify your own motivation, doesn't give the Bible or the rest of the human race - Christian or Non, the respect it deserves. I'm all for Tebow or anyone else being passionate about their beliefs. But their liberty to do so ends where my personal space begins. The world is full of non Christians who have made contributions some of us can only dream of - Gandhi, Dalai Lama etc, etc, etc, To go around pretending we have all the answers - just isn't - well, Christian of us now, is it? C -
You know I want a lot of things. But sometimes it depends on what I want to give up. They had to move up to the top of round 2. They had to give up something big. If they wanted him so bad, why didn't they trade down? That would have been a smart move. Sure Clements would have been gone by then, but they could have stockpiled picks. I can't remember if CB was a position of need, but chances are they would have lost out on a great corner. That being said Clements isn't here either. So make of that what you will. C

Thoughts to our Bills brethren in and around Nashville
cale replied to Lori's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I live in the Bellevue area of town. I can assure you this is extremely bad. Anderson Cooper covered the disaster tonight on CNN. Here are some vids I shot earlier today. http://bit.ly/bellevue1 http://bit.ly/bellevue2 If you are moved to help, here are some suggestions: http://bit.ly/helpnash C ps. My home is fine but some of my neighbors have lost everything. -
They thought Bell was the answer last year too. I Don't understand it. I heard Modrak actually say he was one of our best. To me the guy with the most potential to ability ratio is Jamon Meredith. They might see him as a guard but I really think he is their best young lineman and they should give him every opportunity to win the LT spot with Bell & Wang.

That's fine as long as it doesn't turn into the Jason Peters situation again. C

Why Buffalo didn't go after a big name QB
cale replied to Pete_C79's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That;'s the thing isn't it? I mean given what you'd have to give up to get an early round QB, I'm not sure they could justify bringing someone in who might not be as ready as Brohm. -
Remember when CB was a real reporter with his own publication. Then he went out of business? Oh, wait...

Since we can't grade 2010 draft yet, how 'bout 2007?
cale replied to HurlyBurly51's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Our scouting dept's claim at the time and still is that Poz was higher on their board. No wonder we (still) suck. -
Given the Bills MO for the draft, I'm guessing it was Dan Williams. He would have been a great get. C

For everyone bitching about our draft, if we took
cale replied to buffaloboyinATL's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think most people understand, John. The only question is where and when did/does draft no. 1 start? Was it least season? Was it this season? Will it be next season? I keep thinking we're always at -1. C -
FWIW, I thought Kugler did great with what he had. Maybe even a slightly better job than Mouse.

But in the end it's all about opinions on our end isn't it? I mean sure the "experts" don't think we did a good job. I'm not sure I disagree. But the truth is I just don't know. But I just don't trust Clausen and McCoy. Can't explain it. I just don't. I think they'll do well where they are, because they will have a stable infrastructure. But I just don't like them for us. Because we have been so bad for so long, it takes a particular kind of player to work out here. They almost have to be sure fire picks who might not be as gifted as Clausen or McCoy at their full potential, but who are self starters and can be part of a new culture. I don't think I want Clausen or McCoy being the template. Cody here would be a very different player than Cody in Baltimore. Same thing with Cam Thomas or Campbell. I think it takes someone in the locker room to light a fire under those guys. I just don't have a clear cut idea as to who that may be. I can see Wood (if he recovers from injury) or Freddy Jackson being those guys but I just don't think we have them in buckets like some other organizations. C -
