T.O. Sounds Off on the Bills/Buffalo
cale replied to May Day 10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
With you on this. I was never a big TO fan especially after his Philly and Dallas antics. But he really impressed me during his short time with the Bills. I think if we were a winning team with a solid QB he could have made a real home in Buffalo. Small town kid comes back to small town to finish out his career kinda thing. Would have been a great story. The timing just wasn't right. I wish him all the best. The guy cared about football, team and winning. C -
Yeah, just like Jim Everett went after Jim Rome. Whose corner were you in then? C'mon, the guy stood up for himself. Kelly can be a tool sometimes. Just because I love the team and him for all the great memories of the 90s, doesn't mean I can't be objective about his behavior.

Or it could just be a hammy pull...

Jay Glazer Comments about Merriman
cale replied to Canadian Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think even if he leaves, we get a compensatory pick. This move makes total sense even if it doesn't pay dividends on the field. He comes cheap and is a low risk/high reward play. You can bet the bean counters at OBD crunched all the numbers to make it financially reasonable. C -
LOL. If this guy is 50-75% of the player he once was, I think the other guys suddenly become better. I'm hoping he is the second coming of Bryce Paup - juiced or not. C
-
Exactly we've had little or no production at LB - this guy with his "lack of production" over the past 2 seasons has more production than anyone else in that corp. With the exception of maybe Poz. And even that is debatable. At worse, we get another LB who can't play because he is hurt. BFD...he can take a number. C

Ravens interested in Shawne Merriman

Look if this FO and i'm talking Buddy in this, goes out and signs walking stiffs like Cornell Green to a contract and then JP Foschi, why not take a chance on someone like Merriman? I don't get it. This is mid season and we're not on the hook for his entire salary because he wasn't on our roster the first week of the season. If I'm wrong, someone let me know. If he sucks and then we cut him, I don't think we accelerate the rest of his contract. That bit was already taken care of by his time in SD, correct? So if the above is true, WTH do we not sign the guy and see what he can do? Color me unimpressed with the present FO admin. I like our coach. He's got something. The players play their asses off for him. But Buddy is trying to old school it in the new NFL. I call BS. C -
Ah a contrarian I see ;-) Yeah, right? I think history will say he is one of the best WRs to play the game. He obviously is emotionally damaged and hopefully that part of his life will get straightened out. The "acting out" that has come out of that stuff will keep him from ever being fully accepted & appreciated. But I can't find anything wrong with him as a professional. He stays out of legal trouble. Seems to be a good citizen and can be very charming. He also works his a** off. He is an incredibly insecure human being. But I'm rooting for the guy. C

I wasn't a big TO fan. I also don't think we needed to resign him. All that being said, I thought he was a total pro when he was in Buffalo and he was sincere in wanting to come in and contribute. He seemed humble and frankly just positive about his whole stay here. He obviously taught Stevie Johnson some things. He didn't B word about stuff and I really, really appreciated it when he went off on the sidelines at the Titans game. I was there. The guy was passionate and wanted to win. He seemed to know a good QB in Fitz when he saw one. Something that our coaching staff didn't get. All in all I was glad he played in Buffalo and am fine with him being gone. I wish him nothing but the best. Charles

DJ is on record as saying they needed a Cover Two safety in order to make the system work. So they reached for a pick for the system. I don't think the philosophy was that of the best athlete available. The irony of course is that Ngata would have made everything work on D. He was a game changer and was even brought to Buffalo for an interview. His mom died before the draft and he became the sole breadwinner of the family. He was highly motivated to succeed. That was probably one of the worst misses in Bills draft history. Probably worst than not taking a QB like Cutler when he was sitting there. I don't hate Whitner. But he is a 3rd round pick at best in terms of production. C

I never trust anyone who says, "Trust Me." I immediately put my hand over my wallet.

Bill Parcells looks like he's looking for his next "project." I don't see our owner bringing him in. But if he makes overtures to Tuna, I just don't see Tuna's ego saying No.

Maybe so. But sure would be nice to give all these dribs, drabs & rumors legitimacy.

Actually, does Littman even live in Buffalo? Isn't he in Detroit like RW?
-
Committee or not, when is it appropriate for the coaches to not even be notified? The report also goes on to say that Wilson was livid when he heard about it. Which leads me to believe that Overdorf did indeed overstep his bounds. Also, wasn't that during the Mularkey era? Wasn't Donahoe still the GM? Maybe I'm wrong. C

Since the departure of Polian, this franchise has only answered to two men, Jeff Littman and Jim Overdorf. Polian was fired for standing up to Littman (and also for being rude to Wilson's daughter). John Butler insinuated that the reason he didn't stay was because of Overdorf and how he was constantly asked to do more with less. When everyone blamed him for the cap struggles prior to Donahoe's arrival, he intimated that Overdorf handled the cap and salaries. The closest thing to placing total control and power in the hands of a football person since Polian was the hiring of Tom Donahoe. But he totally crapped the bed. And disrespected the owner in the process (he wouldn't take Ralph's phone calls). Which resulted in the owner again taking over control (read power placed in the hand of Littman-Overdorf). Overdorf has also cut players without the knowledge of coaches. See Troy Vincent. Ralph was mad when he heard this, but not mad enough to fire Overdork. I share the frustration of the folks on this board. I also understand the anger against the coach, GM and owner. But this franchise is dead until either Littman-Overdorf have nothing to do with this or the team gets sold. Coy Wire wasn't a world beater here. But on his ATL radio interview he mentions how the energy in ATL is just positive and it wasn't that way in Buffalo. The Resident Evil of Littman-Overdorf are the puppet masters and the next slew of coaches, GMs, whatever will repeat the same cycle of failure unless there is a sea change in the culture and power structure of the organization. But as long as Ralph is alive that will not change. Until then it will still be the same lunatic play with different puppets. I challenge some of the sports journalists here to write a real expose in how the Bills are run. Of course, you'll never gain access to One Bills Drive again, but I think it's time to out this in black and white so there can be pressure placed on the powers that be to fundamentally change the way things are done at OBD. This may result in the team being sold, but I happen to think this would be a good thing. Right now this is a festering, gangrenous, pus filled mess. It's time to lance the wound and/or amputate the limb and save the team. The fans of this team are owed that much. Cale.

Adam Schefter tweets that the Bills tried to trade him in the offseason. No takers. So the obvious thing was to start him. This organization is run by maroons. From Adam Schefter: -
Its Official: Donte Whitner Is a Bust!

And his name will forever be linked to Haloti Ngata. We sure could have used him today. Goes to show why Marv should have stayed retired. Guess Ralph "knew" him. -
I said here this week, that the OL we had in front of Rob Johnson looked like world beaters once Flutie was behind them. It isn't all about the QB, but damn a whole bunch of things start happening when your QB knows what the hell he's doing. The audibles - man that alone was worth Fitz starting. He can't hit the broadside of a barn, but man, the tenor of the O was much different today. C
