Can they do it? DET and 0 - 16
Joe Miner replied to stuckincincy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
One can only hope they pull it out. Although neither NO or Green Bay looks that fantastic at this point, so it's certainly not a sure thing. It's a home game against NO next. I think this will be their best shot to win. An end of the year game in Green Bay will likely be tough. Although none of the 3 teams are headed to the playoffs, it will be a matter of personal pride for NO or GB not to be the team that lost to the winless lions. -
Congrats UAW - you dumb, greedy bastards

Why does everyone think that bankruptcy means that all employees of the Big 3 will be out of a job, and the companies will close their doors to never make another car? -

Bailout Deal Looks Dead
Joe Miner replied to molson_golden2002's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Actually I'm not paying anything. My wife has better benefits than I do. And trust me, I'm extremely thankful for everything I have received. And if some day my wife's benefits disappear, or my pay gets cut, then we'll make due. But a UAW worker can currently pay $750/year and have him and his spouse covered for life. That's amazing. Why would asking him to pay $175/month for him and his spouse until he retires be so terrible? -

Shouldn't there be some light shining down from the heavens to illuminate this succinct but incredibly correct post? With some ah ahhh ah ahhs being sung? -

Have you been a union employee so long that you have no idea what it's like to work in the real world anymore? My retirement can be gone whenever the company decides to stop putting into my 401k. Or whenever they decide to cut pensions. I don't get a say. I can only hope they would do it in order to stay in business. And yes, I would rather them make cuts and stay in business than fire me or go out of business completely. My health care premiums go up almost every year, just like a lot of Americans. While I still have good health insurance, one year I might be paying $65/month and the next year I might be paying $75/month. Should myself and my fellow employees band together and stop work when our health care increases or the change our 401k's? So yeah, I don't feel bad at all for the union people that will be brought more into line but still have superior benefits in the future than most Americans. No, they don't deserve it. If they actually gave a rats ass about anything but themselves, they'd be pushing for those cuts sooner than 2010, so that their company could stay in business. A pay cut is better than no pay at all you jackass. -

1) The UAW's concessions haven't taken place yet, meanwhile, the Big 3 are about to go under. Too little too late. 2) Being comparable doesn't mean that it's ok for them to still be higher, especially when the company paying it is going out of business. There's no justifiable reason that even with the crappy concessions that their total compensation should be higher. -

Are you too stupid to understand the difference between salary and total compensation? Hourly wages aren't the problem. The ridiculous benefits that these companies pay their employees is. The regulations and rules that they have in place that negatively effect efficiency are. -

Ford may be the only 1 of the three to make it through this without touching a dime of gov't money. They saw the end in sight around 2005, and started taking their new business plan to BANKS and getting loans so that they would have the capital to make it through these tough times. GM and Chrysler didn't do the same. -

Next year is 2009. The UAW won't start picking up SOME of the tab until 2010. There will still be a gap. Why won't the UAW agree to start picking up the tab now? -

Wrong http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28166218/ As I said, total compensation (salary + benefits) is $69 for UAW and $48 for foreign. You're quoting hourly pay above. -

Foreign car workers in the US earn about $48 per hour, salary and benefits included. UAW workers earn about $68 per hour, salary and benefits included. That's about a $40,000 a year difference in worker. Why is that justified? -

See Molson, your previous speech has already divided this thread. Instead of dividing, shouldn't you be learning Obama's plan, and sharing it with us so that we may be saved from these terrible times? -

I don't think that's the attitude Obama wants you to portray. How are you going to bring others to Obama in order to unite us all like he wants with words and an attitude like that? Don't tell me that Obama isn't even in office yet and you are already starting to doubt and fall away? Or were you never really a supporter to begin with? -

Didn't we have this talk yesterday? Obama doesn't want you participating in divisive politics. Your actions make Obama and his message look empty and hypocritical. You wouldn't want your actions to cause people to not get on board with Obama would you? Reach across the isle, and embrace your fellow American. Understand them and work with them. Only then can we turn this into a great nation. If you keep this up, Obama may not be putting any presents under your Holiday Tree. -
Maybe he likes fat chicks? More cushion for the pushin and all that.
-
[sarcasm] What about gov't jobs? [/sarcasm]
-
Now how's Obama gonna unite us if you keep being so divisive? You're gonna piss off the messiah with your divisive rhetoric, and then you'll be in trouble. We're all working on change here, and you keep pushing the divisive politics of the last 8 years. You should be ashamed.

You did it wrong. The words we are to mark are supposed to be in your post, not in the topic discussion line. Sheesh, get on board people.
