I'd rather get an older vet on a decent deal. We have three young guys who all could be potential starters but we need time to figure out which ones will be good.
I don't like giving a good tight end top tight end money, but we've been in need of a good tight end for years and it looks like we'll finally have one.
I understand and that's why I was asking people to fill me in more on the guy. I'm very curious about how good of a blocker he is because I've heard a wide range of opinions on his blocking ability and I think that will be huge with the type of offense we're going to be running.
Not saying they're the same at all, just worried about the fact that we're going to be paying Clay 4 times what Scotty's making when they're putting up similar production. Clay is better but is he that much better.
Dude had 7 catches for 31 yards first time we played them and 5 catches for 31 times the second time. That doesn't exactly scream stud tight end to me.
So how good is Clay really? His stats are pretty similar to Chandler yet we'd be paying him significantly more money. Is he an excellent blocker or just a solid receiver?
I wouldn't look forward to paying him what he wants but having Revis and Gilmore shutting down every teams top 2 receivers while our d-line mauls the other teams o-lines would be absolutely incredible to watch.
It wouldn't necessarily mean the bargain-basement but getting older guys who are still good while we see what we have in all of our young guys. I've heard that the Bills are interested in Jahri Evans who would be a good fit in here.
Ya, I expect us to make one more big splash in free agency whether that's Bulaga or Clay or some wildcard, but I kind of see us going after one of the middling free agent lineman rather than Boling or Bulaga.
That makes me lose some faith in Whaley if they were gonna go for Ebron. He still might turn out but he just doesn't seem all that great, especially with the other players available.
That was one of the reasons we did the trade. If he performed really well than we'd keep him and pay him the 5 mil but if he didn't we would have no problems releasing him.
