Gailey is right, mental toughness is the issue
Bills Fan888 replied to TPS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Exactly, no one seems to be bringing up the Browns game. When CJ got hurt we completely fell apart. Something needs to give to keep this from happening because right now this is by far our biggest weakness. A team just needs to open up the dams and then they can have their way with our team. Everyone loves to bash the coaching staff and say Wanny is the biggest problem but whatever is at the root of these collapses, be it the players, coaches, or both, needs to be fixed. -
But what you see one game can end up completely different in the next. But I see Gilmore having a very successful career although I think he will get burned a few more times this year.

Exactly, just watch the Patriots D in the last game. They dominated because they were extremely physical with us. However when Gailey said mental toughness I think he was referring more to the fact that the defense just completely gave up in the 2nd half rather than their overall toughness. -
I wonder the same. I'd have to assume it has to do with the uncertainty and time required to get an elite QB at least from a draft. You'd have to deal with his sub-par rookie season and you still might end up with a bad QB. With Fitz at least we know what we have and the team is used to him. I would have loved to have gotten RG3 or Andrew Luck but there's only so much you can do. It would have been nice to at least have one as backup preparing to take over when he's ready though.

At first I thought that this was a dumb post but I do agree with you on a lot of what you said. First of all, the Bills main problem is lack of mental toughness. IMO, this mainly applies to Fitzpatrick and the D-line. The D-line was putting a lot of pressure on Brady in the first half after the first drive and was completely dominating him. When the second half rolled in they just got steam rolled. Extremely talented guys but they just gave up. The defense in its entirety also falls into this category after that game with the biggest collapse of a D I've ever seen. With Fitz its more a problem of him getting rattled. When he doesn't have a lot of pressure on him like in the Browns and Chiefs game he performs fine. When he loses his confidence and starts feeling pressure he starts throwing interceptions. About Gaily's offense, it does work BUT you completely left out the fact that the Bills have two star running backs. We have an average QB and average recievers but our two backs are great. When our two backs are hurt and are nonfactors like that game, then yes, it isn't going to work but when they are in and tearing up the D then we're fine. I completely agree that our running game is our strength and the fact that we weren't running that much was one of my biggest concerns with regards to play calling. I don't think we need to be a hard nosed running team and I don't know if that's what you're implying or if you're talking specifically about that last game but just having CJ and Freddy run all over the opposing D is good enough. -
He made some good plays against the Pats so everyone loves him now.

I do agree with you about Fitz but I don't think you can only blame the defense. The Bills offense had constant turnovers and 3 and outs that had the D on the field way too much. This combined with the Pats ramming the ball down our throats completely wore down our D. I still do think that a lot of the blame should still be layed on the D, mainly for the complete lack of run defense, but the offense does deserve to share in the blame. With that said, I still don't think Fitz deserves the amount of **** he's been getting on these boards. While he didn't perform as well as he could have and should have, the Bills are a team that is set up in a way that Fitz should only have to be a game managing QB which is all that he is. In that game he was asked to be the main guy on the offense and win the game for the Bills, but he is not at that level. If we had set up a running game like we had in our other games then a lot of pressure would have been lifted off Fitz and he probably would have performed better.

Hooray for eternal optimism. -
Ehh, if we have CJ and Freddy back at full health I could see the game going very differently than this one. We didn't even break 100 rushing yards this game despite the fact that our running backs are by far our best players.

I get that people are saying that Fitz is not responsible for the 45 points and all but are you guys seriously saying that after throwing 4 interceptions he is completely guilt free? The major reason we lost is because the D couldn't make any stops in the 2nd half but a good portion of responsibility lies with the Offense for turning the ball over SIX times and their constant punts. The same thing happened against the Jets, the Bills D was completely run down and the Offense didn't give them any time to rest. When the offense started making drives the defense started making stops.

I've been looking at the stats going into week 4 and noticed some interesting things from Ryan Fitzpatrick. Despite his horrible opening game, Fitz is ranked number 12 in passer rating, just two spots behind Tom Brady and 8 spots ahead of Peyton Manning, and tied for FIRST in touchdowns. On the other hand though, he's ranked 28th in passing yards and yards per game with 584 yards and 194 yards per game. It's also interesting to note that CJ Spiller is also tied for number 1 in touchdowns and Stevie Johnson is tied for 2nd in touchdowns.

That was a hilariously bad call

No reason for it. They can't come back.

I just watched the entire postgame show and the only mention of the game is one guy saying the Pat's D is god awful and then Cower saying the Bills are great.

Very winnable but after being a Bills fan for 10 years its hard to think that way.

this team isn't far off.

Against the Steelers that's fine. Add on the fact that if Stevie was a little better it would've been 23-16. -
Its been nice knowing yall; Final notes and more..

I might be very disappointed in the Bills but I couldn't even imagine rooting for another team. I don't feel like I could just pick another team to root for. -
Agreed. Now we have to go through another season of flip flopping QB's.

I guess I'm the only one who thought this was depressing news.

This game proves it: It was ALL Jauron's fault

I wouldn't say "especially passing game." The running game didn't do anything either. -
People overreacting
