  1. I'd vote for "evilbuffalobob", but it would likely be a waste of effort. Probably wouldn't sink in.
  2. Good for you! I've started on Malbecs, myself. Similar quality for about 30% less per bottle. Had a great Stellenbosch the other night, however. As for the Revolution, I guess it took from 1775 through final surrender in 1783. No "thunderclap", that's for sure.
  3. Oh, no, Darin. I'm not burying them. I'm saying they're a lot closer to mediocre than in times past. Because by the time they replace the talent from all those losses on defense (and WHEN does Wilfork hit the road?), they'll start losing talent on offense. Not a collapse. A corrosion. A team that can probably count on a lot of 10-6 seasons in front of them, like the Bills in the mid-to-late 90s. And we know how that worked out.
  4. First off, nice avatar. Secondly, no, I wasn't saying the same thing when the Bills pounded the Pats* 31-0. I was at that game, and was wondering (in between Labatts) whether the Milloy investment would keep paying dividends. The Labatts wore off, and so did the investment. Third, my mistake. I'm taking a long view here, which is probably lost (a) on an internet board; and (b) on most of the <15-year-old posters on said board. I've thought about this for awhile, and I'll try to put it in some perspective. 1) A million years ago, I lived in Orange County, CA, and tried to support the then-local Rams. I endured years of frustration as the Montana/Young-led 49ers treated the Rams like a ball of string. What was the high-water mark of the great 49ers team? Hard to say. My guess is that it was the "No Punt Game". They met their match in the Kelly-led K-Gun, and never returned to form after that season. Did I know it at the time? No one did. 2) On the opposite side of that coin, I (and many of the folks on this board) screamed throats hoarse supporting our Bills throughout the early 90s. UnstoppaBill. Until 1994. What happened? I don't know, I guess I could look it up. But they didn't make it out of the playoffs in 1994. None of us knew that was the end. But it was certainly the turning point. 3) The Cowboys. America's favorite enema. They were unbeatable in the early 90s, as Bills fans know too well. But after the 1995 Super Bowl, the 1996 season was a death spiral in slow motion. Smith goes out injured, Irvin gets a five-game suspension, and they became mediocre. Not terrible overnight, just....you know...another beatable team. It's very hard to point to a signal moment in a rise or fall. I admit that. What I saw on Monday Night, however, was not just another Pats* comeback/slaughter/ass-whipping against the Bills. The Bills went into Foxboro Stadium with a bunch of nobodies - NOBODIES - on the offensive line and tight end, with two back up running backs, and a new offensive coordinator, and punched the Pats* until they wept. And if not for one stupid, boneheaded play on the part of McKelvin, they walk out of this winners. Again, I'm not talking about the Bills here. I think you now have 14 defensive coordinators (I'm not counting Fewell) looking at that game and realizing that the Pats* are MUCH more beatable than they used to be. Wonder how the line changed in the upcoming Jets game before-and-after MNF? Perhaps years of losing talent at the Front Office, Coaching and Player level have finally caught up. The high-water mark for the Pats* will be remembered as the 2007 Super Bowl. A sure sign that they've gone into decline, however, will be the opening Monday Night Game in Foxboro when the Buffalo Bills brought in the junior varsity squad from Mt. St. Mary's Sisters-of-the-Blind and knocked the front teeth out of the hometown favorites. Long view, I admit. But I'm solidly on the bandwagon.
  5. I'll make this a quick one, as the board is just now coming off suicide watch. Okay, the Bills lost. What else is new? We're all pissed off after a Bills loss. What else is new? My take on it, however, focuses not on the Bills loss, but the Bills' opponent, the Pats*. Even with the great drive at the end of the game, with the extra downs they received, the media ball washing...Brady* looked like crap. I've never seen the guy overthrow, underthrow, or just plain-out miss like he did on Monday Night. My gut call? You finally saw the crack in the dynasty for which we've been waiting. Nothing happens by revolution, only by evolution. They're not going to implode and go 5-11 this season. But the Pats" showed themselves to be closer to "Ordinary", and much farther away from "Unbeatable" than they've done in years. I'll dig this thread out at the end of the season, and we'll see how much crow I'm going to eat. But I think teams around the league are going to look at this game as a blueprint. The myth has been shattered.
  6. "Scary" indeed for SDS. We're going to need more bandwidth if I'm to call out all the negative dicks on this board. And a surge protector the size of Lockport.
  7. Ah, another fellow optimist. THOUGHT I might find you here, SJBF. To echo a point I'd raised a couple of days ago, let's watch for how many times Maybin creates a false start on the Pats* O-line. I'd be just as happy with THAT sort of disruption as I would with a sack. Unless it's a real painful sack, mind you. I'd like a real painful sack. Not on me, but on Brady*. And I'm referring to "sack" in the footbal sense, not in the anatomical sense...oh, never mind...
  8. In line with your theme of keeping it in perspective, Jim, let's get through Monday. I don't care what happens in Week 11 or 14. The Bills may suffer badly at the hands of the Pats* later in the season, but that's not the problem for this week. Let's get through September 14th, and then we'll move on to September 20th. And so on.
  9. I think there are going to be a lot of us looking at the score in the fourth quarter saying "Oh, my F-ing God, we have a shot". I will tell you this. If the Bills win this game, I'm going to be calling out a number of the TBD prunes by name. And I'm looking forward to it.
  10. There's a great song I have on the 1979 Ry Cooder CD entitled "Bop Till You Drop": It's called - "Everything is going to work out fine". The "schits" on this board don't have the stones to respond to your post. I'm right there with you, game after game. Michael Bublé - Everything
  11. I remember listening to Hank Williams Jr. as he belted out "Monday Night Football" for the first time. Ah, yes. "Are you ready for some football"? It sucked so badly that I take pride in the fact that I haven't listened to that fat inbred goober mouth another syllable for nearly 20 years. The "Mute" button is a great thing. I don't start listening until the ball is sailing over the 50-yard-line on the opening kickoff. The announcing in this game is going to be a minute-by-minute slobbering ball-wash of the Pats* in general, and Marcia* in particular. The ONLY way I'd pull the Mute button off is if the Bills plant Marcia*, Moss* or Welker*, or - better yet - have an "inadvertent" tackle spill into Ballisucks* knees a la Paterno a couple of years ago. Yeah. I'd turn the stereo off for that.
  12. On the upside, I'm going to go into the game as optimistic as I can be. Doom-and-gloom is for losers. On the "reality side", I'm already picking the music to which I plan to listen, because there's NO F-ING WAY I'm going to listen to the announcers. No WAY! Mute the Big Screen, crank up the tunes, open the Meerlust, grind my teeth. What a great Monday night lays in store for me. "Raised on Robbery" - Joni Mitchell
  13. The best boating on the lake is in the Eastern Basin. Islands, inlets, peninsulas, rivers, embayments. The rest of it is uneventful and (at some times) unnerving. Young spouse, steaks and "herbage"? Oh, you lucky, lucky bastard..... "Slave to Love" - Brian Ferry
  14. Oh, don't worry. That will come later. But I believe BOTH our points are that it's not impossible that the Bills win. Forgive me for putting words in your mouth if that's not the case. My greatest concern, however, is Brady*/Ballisuck's* ability to throw the darts into the soft middle. Dart-after-dart-after-dart. Ten yards. Eight yards. Twelve yards. With no pass rush, and the LBs and safeties playing soft.....urrgggh.
  15. 1) 35 minutes of possession by this O-line? I'm not barfing all over you, but I'd be grateful with 30. 2) Jackson can get 125 yards on this defense. It's been done. With a WORSE O-line, for the chicken littles. 3) Edwards not play scared? THAT'S the big issue. Weak Pats* secondary? If Edwards "man's-up", this will be the Pats* Achilles heel. They'll get killed deep, and I think Ballisuck* knows it. 4) Win the turnover battle? Where? In fumbles or interceptions? Big difference. No f-ing way the Bills are going to win the fumble battle. That's what I'D be planning for if I was running backs and/or receiver's coach. The Bills are going to put the ball on the turf. The question is whether our SUPERIOR secondary does more than knock passes down, but actually picks a few off. Time to stop living on reputation, and start bringing a few down in your hands, boys. The linebackers and secondary must intercept more than the offense fumbles. 5) Strong special teams play? Living on reputation based on what I saw this preseason. April needs to sit his boys down in private and have a heart-to-heart. Most particularly if he wants to be the next head coach by Week 6. 6) Pressure on Brady? Let me trot out every goddamn Pats* post I've submitted since 2006. Next item. 7) Poz? 8) Maybin (and this board) needs to concentrate LESS on Maybin getting to Brady and MORE on Maybin's vaunted first step begin so goddamn fast that Kaczur false-starts like he did in the Super Bowl. I'd be f-ing THRILLED with Third-and-Five/Third-and-Seven suddenly slipping to Third-and-Ten/Third-and-Twelve. The entire play set changes. 9) Blast Jauron all you want, but his teams regularly rank near the bottom in the penalty count. His is a very cautious approach resulting in few penalities. I see no change this year. I'll be wearing the Lynch jersey with a champion bottle of Meerlust 2004 Rubicon by my side. Mead, I expect congratulations on my choice of vintage. "I Fall to Pieces" - Patsy Cline
  16. Oh, ye of little faith. "The Polar Express". "I'm into something good" - Herman's Hermits
  17. Only if you drink Molson's. A man's gotta have rules. No limp-wristed-nancy-boys up here in the North Country. What's on tap in San Jose tonight? "Because" - The Beatles (the old stuff)
  18. Guilty as charged, SJBF! I'm on wireless up here at the lake, and "3G" isn't always what my provider tells me it's going to be! I was first to pick it up, but just couldn't get the stupid comment out on time. I feel so inadequate.
  19. Are you certain? Palantonio says the following in his article: "If Runyan is on a roster on Saturday at 4 p.m. ET, as a vested veteran his entire 2009 salary is guaranteed. After Sunday, a more club-friendly contract can be ironed out." It doesn't appear to be Sunday. It appears to be Saturday. Unless Palantonio has his facts incorrect.
  20. Errr...AGGGHHHH. I just crapped in your bath tub. Don't worry, chicks dig the scent.
  21. And I agree with you there. I always thought they'd move Walker back over to RT, Butler to RG, Hangartner at C, Wood at LG and Bell at LT. The whole thing - with one week to go - puzzles the living snot out of me. The difference between me and 99% of the posters on this board, however, is that I'm not willing to launch myself off a bridge if the Front Office doesn't do exactly as I say. Let's get it done, big guy. Go Bills.
  22. Okay, well, that was a damn good post, and I don't give a damn what anyone else says.
  23. Boy, I just don't know, Chalkie. I just don't know. I'm not a FO apologist, believe me, but the whole Langston Walker at Left Tackle just left me unsettled. I tried to get behind it, but... As for mending bridges, that's likely nonsense for a 91-year-old who has spent 50 years in the league, illegally bailed out two franchises (New England (Boston at the time), and Oakland), and has now had his mug enshrined into Canton. No, I would imagine that the bridge building starts from the other direction at this point.
  24. I don't disagree with you on this. I don't think that Wilson will cough up the cash for Cowher, but perhaps it IS time for a Mariucci. This line of discussion will glow like melted platinum somewhere around Week 6.
  25. Idiotic response on my part, Steely, but I just don't know. There has simply NO information about Bell's back....well, certainly NO information worth a schit, for about 2 weeks. I guess this is the element about the opening game that concerns me the most. Not the DTs. Not the TEs. Not even the QBs. That back on our new starting LT has me in deep-six angst.
