The Official Canada Olympic Hockey Thread
CFLstyle replied to thebug's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
oh yeah, and about the last part, you're right I would be singing a different tune. But that's not the case is it. I'm not denying that that's part of what gives us so much depth. -

Oh no don't get me wrong I'm not saying they would for sure. But it wouldn't be out of the realm of the possibility. It would be very easy for me to compile four Team Canada's that could measure up to any other team in this tournament. Canada 2 and Canada 3 could easily give a team like Russia a good run for its money. Now, if you go the US route and split up our scoring forwards and energy guys, we could have 8 teams that could compete. For example, Matt Duchene is one of the better young players in the NHL. He would be lucky to make our 3rd team right now, and might be a fringe player on our fourth team. And that's without adding in grinders like Cal Clutterbuck (one of the best hitters in the game). As for the person who asked why we don't have our own league...ridiculous question. I never claimed that Canada can support a better hockey league, we don't have the economy or the population. I just said that we have the most depth. To further my example on depth, we could use guys who have never even played in the NHL yet (like Cody Hodgson), and we'd still compete at the Olympics. -
Seems like someone's sour about not getting an interview...

That being said, I'm impressed by the US team this year. They're build like a real hockey team with two scoring lines and two energy/checking lines. Finland/US is going to be a very interesting game, and Slovakia/Canada should be good too, the Slovaks are asserting themselves as a world hockey power. -

Haha, may as well enjoy it while it lasts. You guys are screwed. And when you're as good as Canada at hockey, you're allowed to be arrogant. The talent pool we have to choose for is so deep. Countries being able to send one team doesn't highlight Canada's dominance because surely every country can round together a 23-man roster that can compete. Canada could send four teams and have a chance at ranking 1-4 in the tournament. -
How can you even begin to argue that Edwards has more upside than Campbell? What has Edwards done to show he has any upside at all? At least Campbell is a good scrambler and has a strong arm. He's also had a pretty good quarterback rating each year, and is improving each and every year. Trent is regressing! Just look at the quarterback ratings: Edwards: 2007-08 70.4 2008-09 85.4 2009-10 73.8 Career 77.9 Campbell: 2006-07 76.5 2007-08 77.6 2008-09 84.3 2009-10 86.4 Career 82.3

The Official USA Olympic Hockey Thread

Ha, nice Oh Canada... I'm a Team Canada fan, and I'm not here to ruin this thread... Congratulations on the win, your team looked rock solid, and I've said from the start to people here in Canada that the US has a great team, specifically because they're built like a real hockey team. Scoring lines up front, checking and energy lines at the back. Canada doesn't really have that, we just threw together a dream team. Having guys like Backes and Drury and Kessler and Callahan really makes a huge difference. Of course, your scoring lines are as good as anyone elses, and you have the hottest goaltender in the world. So anyway, a lot of respect for your team, at least from true hockey fans in Canada. That being said, I'm sure you remember 2002. Canada went 1-1-1 in round robin, then came back to win the tournament and the gold in your own back yard, 5-2. So, as we all know, this tournament is FAR from over. Canada/Russia is still a 50/50 ticket in my mind. -

Select any NFL player for the Bills other then QB
CFLstyle replied to gladiator's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Nick Mangold. -
I thought Butler was our best lineman until he got hurt. Still, I wish we had enough depth at tackle to put Wood at centre and move Butler back to guard so we'd have Levitre, Wood, and Butler in the middle, with Hangartner in the middle and Incognito as depth at guard. This would be ideal.

How do the Bills screw up the draft every year??
CFLstyle replied to Thurman8125's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why do you just assume that McKelvin is the wrong one of the three? He's shown flashes, let him develop first. -
I don't know if these three teams are as comparable as you say. Hasselbeck will still be there for at least a few more years. Who says the Redskins are getting rid of Campbell, have they announced that they won't be re-signing him?? I think the Bills are most comparable to the Browns. A mess of younger QBs with a new GM coming in. Either way interesting points!

Did we want Dallas to win tonight?
CFLstyle replied to twist_to_open's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Has anyone considered that it may open the door for us at quarterback? Kolb has performed well when given a chance and considering McNabb's playoff struggles and the Eagles underachieving each year, is it unrealistic to believe the Eagles could be ready to turn the page on the McNabb era? I think he'd make a great fit with the Bills. Just some food for thought. EDIT: I see after reading more that this has been brought up. I like your thinking H2o! -
PER KFFL: Jauron Favorite For Giants DC Job
CFLstyle replied to KentHull's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why is everyone rushing to bash Jauron so quickly? He had his problems as coach but he could be a good defensive coordinator. I, for one, wish him well, and hope that he proves people here wrong... -
I think that McNabb should be an option right beside Kolb. Kolb played great this past year in the few games that he played, and if McNabb disappoints in the playoffs, they might be looking to move on and hand the keys over to Kolb. I'd love to have McNabb as our quarterback in Buffalo.
-
Love the idea of Jason Campbell. I don't think Pennington is the answer he's not the type of quarterback that could succeed in Buffalo, BUT, his accuracy and good decision-making would be refreshing. I kind of have a feeling that if the Eagles don't make a deep playoff run, they might be ready to move on with McNabb, and roll with Kolb after this season. If that happens, which is a big if, I think the Bills would have their answer. Obviously just an idea, but could be possible.
-
The only reason I clicked was to see who you have at quarterback. I think both Mitchell and Whitner will be starting. If they're not, then this defense will be worse than it was this year, by far. I've also noticed you don't think we'll be starting any corners. Interesting approach, but I don't agree with this.

I think Lynch is better than Benson. He`s much faster. He`s just struggling right now. Everyone around here seems to have such a short memory. He was great when he first came here. He`ll come around.
-
Lynch is great when he`s on. He`s struggling right now, but he`s still really young, and has most of his career in front of him. If we let him go to another team, he`ll turn out to be great. Jackson only has a couple of years left anyway, there is no reason to get rid of Beast Mode.

On TV it seemed really loud, I thought the atmosphere was great.

The Compelling Case for Mike Leach as Head Coach
CFLstyle replied to The Senator's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
People can call Trestman "some coach from the CFL" all they want, but all the guy does is win. In his first year ever being in the CFL he took his team to a Grey Cup - do you have any idea how many NFL coaches have tried to come to the CFL and have failed miserably? Any coach who can come to a totally different game and make the adjustment and become a great coach in a year is a good coach in my books. If he can do that in the CFL, he can do it anywhere. That's why the Bills won't be the only team after him. The players love him, he's smart, has a great personality, and knows his football. I think he'll be a great NFL head coach. Marv Levy was once just "some guy from the CFL" too. -
