  1. Chip Kelly is an innovative coach, he puts a fresh spin on everything. I can't wait to see him in the NFL, although I don't see any reason he'd come to Buffalo.
  2. I don't know what the big deal is. Of the three, I agree that Fitz does give this team the best chance to win. Why? How does Thigpen have any more potential than Fitz? Looking at the situation, we said that Fitz was coming off an injury that he played through for most of last season, and before that injury he looked real good. We also knew he was going through some changes in his throwing mechanics, which I think gave some of us hope of a better Fitz. Even in hindsight I can't say I'd ever want a look at Thigpen.
  3. I'm all for Glennon. Scouts are high on his accuracy and arm strength.. I don't think his lack of mobility is as bad as people on here say.
  4. This is a great point. I was listening to a program on our sports radio here in Toronto a couple of weeks ago, and they were talking about the psychology of coaches in the NFL, and how they very rarely take risks because they're coaching for their jobs. Generally the textbook has become 'punt or kick on fourth and one', and to be conservative most of the time. So I guess the idea is if they feel like they're going by the textbook they're less likely to be criticized. I thought of this during the Titans game when they kicked a field goal on fourth and one near the red zone, I remember getting very frustrated because the running backs were dominating and it was a high-scoring game. Three points did little good, and they were moving the ball so well, why not keep it going? I keep thinking, if I were a coach, most of the time I'd probably go for fourth and three or less if I'm across midfield -- obviously depending on the score of the game and the situation. Who knows though, maybe it's different in the shoes of an NFL head coach. Basically my mentality on fourth down is this: if you don't think you can get a single yard, or even two or three yards, then why bother playing the game? The average play is much higher than a yard that's for sure. The odds are in your favour. That seems to be Chip's thought process too.
  5. I think not being able to sell tickets in December is indicative of the weather, and the team having fallen out of the race by mid-November -- not the sight lines.
  6. He never stated the defence was fine, someone made a joke thread after a game guessing what Gailey said in the presser, and that was one of his lines. But a lot of people didn't pick up on the fact that it wasn't the actual transcript and started ripping on Gailey for saying the defence was fine. All made up.
  7. We have two star running backs who can both catch the ball and have the capability of scoring any time the ball is in their hands. We do have good players on defence who make plays. We do have guys that can catch the ball on offence and a scheme that's pretty hard to stop when Fitz is on target and managing the game. I think people outside of here do see that there's potential for something here. I don't think we'll make the playoffs because that likely means having to win two of the next three, but I wouldn't rule it out. If we lean on F-Jax and Spiller like we should, those guys can win us games.
  8. And people wonder why the Bills have trouble attracting big names in free agency. If I were a free agent and saw the way Mario's been treated by some Bills fans, I'd never want to sign here.
  9. uhh well I'm in Toronto and have never been in Buffalo, I don't cheer for any other Buffalo teams, but I still feel a connection to the city through this team and I'd never cheer for them if they moved to L.A. Heck I don't think I'd cheer for them if they moved to Toronto either, I hate the Toronto series and this city doesn't deserve an NFL team.
  10. so, because we have a glaring issue in one place, we should ignore trying to improve other areas as well? Even if we get a quarterback, we are not deep are receiver. This team has several needs not just one, so anything to fill a need is a good move.
  11. Dalton and Fitz, not even close haha one's a potential top-10 QB with all the intangibles and the other's a career journeyman.
  12. Can't have the best of both worlds. If he's getting anything near 20 carries a game he should be avoiding hits when possible. His strength is not running over linebackers just for an extra yard. I think the role he's in right now is solid, if he can get 15 carries a game plus five receptions he can put up MVP numbers, if he gets more than that he'll probably get worn down and dinged up.
  13. Things like this happen often in pro sports, players get released by one staff and catch on somewhere else and prove everyone wrong.. I think if he comes back and has success the coaching staff should get credit for at least not being too stubborn to get him back in the picture. Not like any other team picked him up and he went and had success there.
  14. Beat the Pats in his first try, obviously can't call him elite yet but can't knock him for that. Off to a great start.
  15. People say that a good D-line can make a secondary look great by getting to the QB and not giving receivers time to get open. But surely it can work the other way around, too. If the defensive backs are getting beat (maybe it's because of the scheme, granted), then the QB can get rid of the ball right away and the line has no chance, too.
  16. Are you kidding me, people around here started calling Spiller a bust as soon as his first game ended against the Dolphins. But I agree, five games into the season is ridiculous, no matter how he's played - let alone the fact that he's probably been one of the better players on this defense (not that it's saying much). And yeah, like jabtot says, there's a lot more reason to be concerned about Aaron WIlliams right now.
  17. sure good post other than 'Bills fans suck'. This team has gone through so much losing. I'd be worried if people didn't get frustrated after losses. What kind of fan doesn't get mad when their team loses? If every fan in the world would just be happy to have a team, sports would suck, no one would care about the result. 2-2 is reasonable, but there's no doubt people should be concerned with the defence giving up six straight scoring drives and the offence turning the ball over so frequently. It's alarming. Sure the Bills D blew it for Fitz, and Jackson and Spiller didn't help, but Fitz had his issues too. The offence was just about as bad as the defence on Sunday. Way too many missed opportunities and untimely turnovers.
  18. might not have won without him today
  19. I don't know if I'm ready to defend either of these guys. Yet I'm not quite prepared to throw them under the bus either.. Like a lot of people say though, the biggest reflection on Nix when all is said and done, if this team can't get over the hump and become a contender, will be the inability to find a franchise quarterback. Now, maybe it's a matter of simply waiting for the right guy and having the patience to know they can't blow their future on a bust. There are prospects they've apparently wanted, but couldn't get. It does make sense - why settle, if you're not 100 per cent confident the guy's going to be your man for the next decade? Until then I guess Fitz fills the gap. But I highly doubt these guys sat down and decided that Ryan Fitzpatrick is the answer at quarterback and can carry them to the Super Bowl. I think they merely felt he was the best option until the right guy falls into their lap.
  20. I do think that Cutler's a very good quarterback, playing behind possible the worst offensive line in the league. It's hard to make plays when you're throwing off your back foot every play. When it's a linebacker getting through that's one thing, but when you're getting beat by a four-man rush it's another. I bet if you gave him time like most of the elite quarterbacks get, he'd be up there.
  21. Fitz is the kind of guy who's on one game and off the next, and the outcome of the game will usually depend on whether he's on or off. Yesterday he was obviously off, so the hope is he'll be on for the next one. Is that how you win a Super Bowl in this league, or even make the playoffs? No, obviously not - it's more likely a ticket to a .500 record, give or take a game or two. But I'm certain he's the best option we have right now, so until we have a better quarterback or a young guy ready to play, there's no reason Fitz isn't our guy.
  22. Don't agree at all about Spiller. What I saw from him today was rare for a running back. Glimpses of an elite runner. Every time he touched the ball, he hit the hole so quickly. When there was no space, he was patient. He waited for his blocks, he waited for the holes to open up. He accelerates so fast from a stand still, there were three or four times I thought he was done and they'd cut him off at the corner, just to see him burn the defender and get up the sideline. I'm left to wonder what he could've done had he gotten the ball more.
  23. I miss Whitner. I never understood why so many people got on his case. He's a fierce competitor and a good leader. I bet the Niners are sure happy to have him.
  24. there was an overwhelming number of members on this board who declared Spiller a bust, or useless. some people said he would be cut next year.. I think the few amount of people who have stood by that pick all this time deserve to say 'I told you so' a little bit.
  25. a very clear catch, one angle showed difinitive evidence that he had his arm under the ball and full control of it the whole way.
