Nix and Modrak Address Media
The Cincinnati Kid replied to Ghost of Rob Johnson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thing is, there is a lot of smoke blown this time of year. The Bills are holding a good hand at 3. They need to play the bluff as well as the cards. We'll see what happens in 10 days. -
Projections for Fitzpatrick...
The Cincinnati Kid replied to EldaBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I am thinking in the same area as the OP. I am looking at 3,500 yards 25-31 Tds 12-17ints. I will be very happy with that season. Its more than adequate numbers for an NFL season. -

All Newton all the time
The Cincinnati Kid replied to RichardBag's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As is so often repeated here and everywhere, teams are not going to tip their cap as what they are thinking pertaining to ANY prospect. That being said, do you really think the Panthers would come out and say: "this guy is not for us, he is too dumb"? NO. Of course not! Neither would any other team picking in the top 5-10 picks. They want to use it as bait. They are always looking to gain an advantage. If you can get another team to believe that you really might pull the trigger on a kid that has some ??? then you are at an advantage because now you are creating a crisis for other teams and when there is a crisis people will do some interesting things. All I am saying is that there are some serious concerns based on the little information that we as fans get. None of us sat down and talked football with Gruden or Newton, so we dont know what we dont know. We can only judge off of what is shown to us. That is certainly the media's choice. Maybe Newton really can handle the "verbage" of an NFL playbook, but from the snippet that I saw, I am pretty certain that it would be a long and winding road to get there. That scares me. I don't like that. I dont want that. I am with Hindsight and every other person on here who DOES NOT want Cam Newton in Buffalo. I'll be the first to admit that after watching him all season at Auburn I was all about getting Cam Newton in B-lo, but during the predraft process, with everything, positive and negative that have come out surrounding Cam, I have completely changed my mind. I wouldn't touch him with a 10 foot pole. He is gonna steal a Christmas that we've been waiting 11 years for.... -
All Newton all the time
The Cincinnati Kid replied to RichardBag's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Obviously, it was hyperbole. I am sure Hindsight, like all of us here, is into the draft and watches the clips, reads the articles and makes judgements and assessments based on all of those things. Of course it was overboard, but really, not by much. If you are going to be an "Icon and Entertainer" you'd better be prepared when the camera goes on, and in this case Newton was not ready. He is a very controversial figure in this draft for a myriad of reasons. The fact that he couldn't remember a single play from the Auburn offense and went on to say that all he had to do was look at a number on the sidelines is scary. If you know that on #36 you are supposed to fake a handoff and then run left and thats all you know...wow... I wouldn't want to give that guy $40 million either. Of course, if you have the deep pockets and are willing to sign away $40 million to some kid who has about as much chance of failing at his job as succeeding, please, go ahead and write that check good sir. -
I agree with Pete!

Im Not Calling Gerald McCoy a Bust
The Cincinnati Kid replied to EldaBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Perhaps, but what is more likely is the talent evaluators for the NFL Draft look at certain aspects of a player's game that translate into success in the NFL. Guys at DL with good uppper body strength, long arms, a quick first step off the snap of the ball, above average agility, etc are likely to be drafted higher and will have higher expectations once in the NFL. Its just what they're looking for when evaluating players. I guess you could call it a script... -
Redskins looking to move up...
The Cincinnati Kid replied to habes1280's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the Bills will stand pat at 3. Nix says if your guy is there you better take him cuz there is no promise he'll be there later -
I think we can. I don't think the defense has to be dominating. I think they have to be much better, but they do not have to be the 2000 Ravens (or was it 2001?). I think that Fitzpatrick will be everything we could get out of any other QB with a FULL Training Camp and Preseason as the Number 1 guy. I've watched all the tape from this past season, and I think that he just has "it." I understand that he does't have the physical tools that Peyton and Brady have, but thats alright. He has plenty of tools that will lead him to success in this league. He has a more than adequate arm, his footwork is excellent, his leadership skills are tremendous, and he makes players around him better. David Nelson had an excellent season, so did Stevie Johnson because of Fitz. The team just seemed to play harder when he came in from week 3 forward. There is so much to be said for having a full season and then a full TC under your belt before taking the field in the opening weekend. The timing and chemistry between yourself and every player, not just the WRs, is so much better and more fluid. The guys will begin to see the same things that Fitz sees and will anticipate his checks at the LOS, they'll be able to be one additional step ahead because they'll have seen it and thought about it before he makes the call, instead of reacting to the call when its made. I like Fitz. I think he is more than capable of taking this team places. I am excited to him lead the Bills, I hope for the next 5-7 years.

Correct, I am not at the practices and I have never met Aaron Maybin. Maybe he can catch, maybe he can run a route. I don't know. I know he is a good enough athlete to at least let him try. Here is a thought, think about what you are reading before typing something stupid in a response. -
some interesting commments in PFW audibles
The Cincinnati Kid replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In order to draft a "true franchise quarterback" there has to be one to draft. This draft, despite what people would want you think, is severely lacking in that department. Gabbert and Newton are not "Sure Thing Franchise Quarterbacks" like Ryan, Bradford, Stafford and Peyton. They just aren't. They are very good, so is Fitz. So is Matt Cassell. They aren't superstars, they aren't worth the #3 overall selection. This draft just doesn't have a can't miss QB at the top 10. Some team will take one or both of those guys, I just hope its not us because it will set this franchise back another 10 years. -

Have you guys seens Von's Measureables from his Combine Workout compared to Clay Matthew's? Miller's Pre-draft measureables Ht Wt Arm length Hand size 40-yd dash 10-yd split 20-yd split 20-ss 3-cone Vert Broad BP Wonderlic 6 ft 3 in 246 lb 33½ in 9¼ in 4.53 s 1.57 s 2.57 s 4.06 s 6.7 s 37 in 10 ft 6 in 21 rep N/A All values from NFL Combine Matthew'sre-draft measureables Ht Wt 40-yd dash 10-yd split 20-yd split 20-ss 3-cone Vert Broad BP Wonderlic 6 ft 3⅛ in 240 lb 4.62 s 1.58 s 2.68 s 4.18 s 6.90 s 35½ in 10 ft 1 in 23 rep 26 All values from NFL Combine except 40-yard dash (and splits) from USC Pro Day So, Miller is Bigger, Faster, and more explosive. You could argue that Matthews was stronger based on BP, but its minimal. A 5" difference in the broad jump is a big deal, and 4.5 in the 40 vs. 4.6... You be the judge, but I think Matthews has been ok. Why wouldn't Miller? -

I hear you KoK, but I don't think its a desperation move or feeling from me. I am simply looking at an athlete that we have on this team, which Maybin certainly is, and trying to find where he could best help the team. That is not desperation, its creativity. We have a guy under contract. His contract, Im pretty certain, does not state which position he must play. George Wilson was a guy we had on Offense, that has turned into a nice defender and ST for us. Its not impossible. TE is a position where we need some better athletes. I am sure Stupar is a great guy. He doesn't sniff Maybin's god-given athleticism. If Maybin can catch, and is willing to change position, I think TE would suit him very well. Why waste all that money because he can't play DE. We're paying him, we might as well use him. -

I did not see the interview, but I have thought for a few months that Maybin would look damn good as a TE for us. I don't know his ability to catch, but if the guy can run a route and block (he sure knows how to block a guy in the NFL, seeing as thats all that happens to him, he could be a player for us). I think there is a lot of athleticism in that body of his, and he just needs to find a way to use it. He is an NFL caliber athlete, I just think he is in the wrong position. Aaron Maybin, TE, Buffalo Bills... Think about it... -

I wouldn't mind some of those picks. I think we need Von Miller at 3. His numbers at the combine beat Clay Matthew's numbers. They are the same size too. Miller is 3" taller than James Harrison. He can cover, he can rush the passer. He was wearing a Bills hat during a charity trip during the Senior Bowl. BOOM! Miller to B-Lo at 3! -
"Buffalo is a black hole of draft information "
The Cincinnati Kid replied to Kingfish's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A coach needs 4 of his own drafts to get it right. If after 4 off seasons the team still sucks, its the coach and GM. No doubt.. Anything less than 4 is tough. You could argue 3. But 1 or 2 is not enough time to get the type of players that he needs/wants in his systems. -
Chris Simms or Jevan Snead?

Levi Brown. He is going to a solid player in this league. All of the tools, but also all of the desire. -

I would have to say the most talented player that I would die if the Bills select is AJ Green. The guy is a monster, and quite possibly the BPA at our pick, depending on how a team determines what the BPA is. I would so upset because our WRs had a good year last year, and with Parrish and Easly coming back from injury, it is a loaded position for us. I think guys like Naaman and D. Jones are a little nervous about their position next season, even though both had good years for us. -

I dont think the Bills with draft a QB until Day 3 like last year. We will draft one because we are waving goodbye to Brohm (thank goodness), but not until day 3. -

I want a defensive guy. I don't care who as long as he plays defense. My preference is Von Miller. He just seems like the baddest dude in this thing, and we need some bad dudes. Like Criminals. (I dont think Von is a Criminal, or that he'll be one BTW). Teams with Criminals win. We dont have any and we dont win....just saying. -
New guy saying go Bills!!!
The Cincinnati Kid replied to Scrappy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I never thought about this before, but it is a good thing to think about. Nice Post! I guess that being drafted at all is why the players hold out. If there was no draft, they could all play for the highest bidder. Since the NFL is a Monopoly and there is no one to bid against but themselves they made the draft. However, if someone wants to work for the NFL as anything but a player, they can work for the team that offers the best package. Interesting new thoughts for me, and probably many others. Thanks! "I like to break a mental sweat too!"
