Losman named starter for 2007
2020 Our Year For Sure replied to Ramius's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd say in the beginning of the season he looked bad because of the poor offensive line play, and this stunted his growth, but the improved protection has allowed him to grow and develop as a player. He's more comfortable and more confident now and an all-around better quarterback than he was a few months ago, and so he's more suited now to deal with a lousy line. -

Right, I've realized I was actually referencing the following post made by JDG in the "Wade Phillips Syndrome" thread: And I believe JDG has a point there. You see Dibs, its one thing for Marv Levy and Tom Modrak to be talking to Nate Clements' agent right now, but its another thing for our head coach to be thinking about next year's personel at a time like this. Dick should be buried in X's and O's figuring out the best way to stop Miami's offense. Now pay attention because this is the most important part: I don't really have an issue with this. I'm sure it won't actually be a distraction and I'm sure DJ will have this team ready to go against Miami. But I just didn't think JDG's opinion was ridiculous enough to be flamed for it (along with his allegiance to the team questioned), and thats the only reason I posted in the first place. As I've said, I'm sure this won't effect anything, but IMHO it does seem like strange timing. -

Why don't you re-read his original post where he spelled it all out for you and explained a perfectly logical viewpoint? I'm not sure if anyone knows how to read around here anymore. -

It is when its a new coaching staff. What can Matthews possibly tell them? "That Lee Evans...that guy is good." "Thanks, Shane." -

Just like my father, who made his family's living down in Jersey...and out came a couple of 2nd generation Bills fans. You better believe he's in front of the TV every Sunday making good use of NFL Sunday Ticket. -

Thats bull sh--, we can't pretend to know what Losman's teammates think of him. The way you get respect from your teammates is to play well, and he's doing that. He also takes responsibility for any mistakes the press brings up, and his teammates must respect that. For example, early in the year Losman threw a pick because of a poorly run route by Josh Reed (according to DJ), but JP took responsibility for it. That earns respect. He also constantly talks about how the Bills feel like a tightly-knit team, and the offense believes they have the players here to make this thing work. Not to mention I get the feeling from watching Lee Evans' postgame comments that he really means it when he says JP is our guy. And another shot at the Houston game showed JP jumping around with teammates on the sidelines after the score, everyone just going crazy and celebrating together. And during the Jets game, didn't Shaud Williams jump into Losman's arms after a touchdown? Signs may point one way or another, but there's no way for us to actually know what kind of response JP gets because we're not in the lockerroom, on the sidelines and in the huddle. But I see no reason why they wouldn't respect Losman, and I get the feeling they do. -

Good stuff...am I the only one with sound issues when the narrarator speaks? -
I think that is explained by the style Dick Jauron wants to bring to his football team. His defensive style surrenders yards on the ground but relies on turnovers to keep that in check. The cover 2 is supposed to get alot of turnovers. We've got Schobel to pressure the quarterback, we spent two first day picks on safeties to try to create turnovers. So far this year, we've been getting them. Given that the defense is going to get its share of turnovers, the most important function of the offense is to take advantage of the short fields. When we get into the redzone, its gotta be 6 points. Over the last 4 weeks, the offense has been very successful at performing this function, and the team has looked good. That, along with the awesome Losman-Evans connections, is what has me feeling good about our offense.

You mean 16th. -
Yup, losses to Denver and Jacksonville would be huge. Go Cardinals, and go Titans.

I'll try to make it as simple as possible, I've been reading every post made on the topic and have done some of my own research over the last couple of days. At this point I'm certain this is the criteria we need. -The Bills must win the rest of their games -The Jaguars (8-5) must lose at least 2 games, OR the Bengals (8-5) must lose all 3 of their games (we hold the tiebreaker on the Jags but not on Cincy) -The Chiefs (7-6) must lose at least 1 game (we've got the tiebreaker) -The Broncos (7-6) must lose at least 2 games, OR they can lose 1 game in which case the Chiefs must also lose exactly 1 game (if both teams tie with us at 9-7, the Chiefs eliminate Denver b/c they're in the same division, and we have the tiebreaker on KC; if its just Denver, they have the tiebreaker on us) -The Jets (7-6) must lose to the Miami Dolphins on Christmas Eve (Monday night week 16), OR the Jets must lose to BOTH Minnesota and Oakland (if Miami beats them, we'll have the same divisional record, pushing it to the next tiebreaker which is conference record where we will hold the tiebreaker) Looking back it looks complicated and unlikely, but it really isn't that hard to fathom. The Jags are inconsistent and have @TEN, NE and @KC on their schedule. They can lose 2 of those games. Denver needing to lose 2 with their schedule (@ARI, CIN, SF) worries me, but they're 0 of their last 4 and Cutler is 0-2 as a starter. Unfortunately we pretty much need the Phins to step up and beat the Jets (in Miami) next Monday Night on Christmas, cause I don't see the Jets losing to both Minnesota and Oakland. If we win out and the Phins defeat the Jets for us, there's a solid chance the peaces fall into place for us. It really isn't as much of a longshot as it seems. You gotta Billieve! Go Bills!

But since we opened up the offense, changing our style and reshuffling the line, we have the 16th ranked offense and a 4-2 record. That's over a 6-week period, which is a decent sample size. So whats the problem? -

WHO CARES? What connection does your offensive ranking have with WINNING? Is the goal to have pretty stats or to win football games? We could have the 32nd ranked offense and win a super bowl. Its completely irrelevant. Oh and christ, I don't know how many times Dibs has to tell you that since we opened it up and changed our offensive system and re-tooled the offensive line, we actually have the 16th ranked offense. So even if that number DID matter, we'd still be doing just fine. So please, shut up about this already. -
