So why did you say on either Friday or Saturday (can't remember) that you'd "heard 'things' that Coles [would] sign with Miami by the end of the night?" Why did you, two seperate times (in that same Friday/Saturday period, either way well before noon on Tuesday when Buffalo alledgedly pulled their offer) guarantee that Coles would not be a Bill? According to the account you gave above, all you knew at that time was (a) what the rest of us knew, and additionally (b) that Buffalo had made the only offer to Coles. With that information, why wouldn't you look at the Bills as a favorite to land him, or at least digress that they had, at minimum, a slim chance? It just seems like you made some big assumptions with the info you had, but were eventually bailed out.

Whats even more ridiculous is they not only say we signed a "backup" in Hangy, but also that we let go of a "starter" in Puke Preston, as if Preston to Hangy is some kind of downgrade.

No. That seems illogical. If you're taking one side of an argument, it follows that you believe that course of action is beneficial, in other words, it won't suck. Seems like all you're really pointing out is that people on here disagree, which is obvious and inevitable. But what they're disagreeing on is how to not suck.

Thats perfect to me, as soon as you show me the OTHER 31-year-old WR on the market who averages 900 yards a season and excels in the exact role we're seeking: intermediate passing routes. No, the Bills will go into the season with a 7th round sophomore with 10 career catches as their best hope to fill a starting WR position.

What you guys are missing when you bring up the fact he walked away from $6M for one year, is he could've made more than that in his first year with a new team without averaging that much in annual salary. For example, he could've signed somewhere for 4 years, $16M. Thats only an average of $4M/season. But if $8M of that money is guaranteed, he still did the right thing by turning down the Jets' offer.

Average players? The guy is a 4-time Pro Bowler and a 2-time First-Team All Pro...

This is ridiculous. For this one fckin guy, can't we just overpay and get him signed? They gave Buffalo every chance to make this thing happen. There is no other free agent that comes close to Coles! He was the only guy we could get who'd draw attention from defenses, allowing Evans to get loose. And we completely botched it. Jesus, you try to be optimistic, but this team just refuses to throw you a friggin bone once in awhile.

Pat Moran insists that Buffalo has not signed Coles, that their offer falls at least a bit short of he wants, that Coles' agent is trying to set up visits with other teams, and that Coles may come back to Buffalo at some point if he can't find something better.

Thanks, Tim. I've read rumors that Tom Modrak is high on Tenny DE Robert Ayers, possibly to the point that Ayers will be the number one defensive end on the Bills draft board. Have you heard anything to that effect? Any thoughts on Ayers, or the Bills approach to the DE position in general?

Buffalo Rumblings had been speculating that Buffalo wasn't going to do much until the Coles and Peters situations were resolved, so they'd know how much money they'd have available. I wonder if they've got a pretty good estimate on what they'll be spending on the two of them, which would mean the deals are almost done. Just speculation.
