2020 Our Year For Sure

We need to address DT next year. We've had to put it off the last couple of years because there was still some lingering hope that McCargo would pan out and because Williams isn't an embarrassment, but we've got to find a DT to put next to Stroud who can penetrate and be disruptive. The defense we play absolutely requires it.

Still...there's no option for those among us who realize we have no idea what Brandon has said. Maybe he was desperately fighting to pay Peters? Or maybe it was his idea to trade him? Maybe he was the one pushing for Maybin? Or maybe he wanted Oher? Or Orakpo? Or Freeman? Or to move up for Crabtree? Maybe he wanted to cut half the roster to sign Albert Haynesworth? Or maybe picking up mid-level free agents like Hangartner and Florence was his idea? Maybe he was dead-set against bringing in Terrell Owens, and nearly resigned over it? Point is, because its not one single guy making the calls for the Bills, its damn near impossible to evaluate any of the individuals involved.

Where's the option for, "I have no idea what to think of Russ Brandon, because the Bills' group approach means I have no idea what his opinions and decisions have been?"

Don't question the Almighty. He's probably speaking in a language you just can't understand.

I'd like to know how Maybin's 10-yard dash time compares with guys like Freeney and Taylor. They say he has exceptional burst, I'm curious as to just how quick that first step really is.

I think I'd rather just start Walker and Butler.

Not sure what you mean, cincy. McShay has been gushing over the Maybin pick at every opportunity, and has specifically said the Bills came into the draft needing an edge rusher, and filled a need at #11. I know you're speaking more broadly, but he seems to have done his homework in this case.

I'm not sure anyone should comment on San Jose's post, at this time. We should wait until we know whether or not Scott's blog post is correct a few weeks into the season, then we can offer a grade for San Jose's post that actually means something. You'll just have to wait, SJ. We'll let you know in a few months' time whether or not you're permitted to stay.

Thanks a million Labatt. I assumed they'd let Levitre sit a year and develop a bit, but it looks like they're clearing the way for both rookies to start in the middle day one. This gives our O-line play this year more upside, and a higher ceiling, in my opinion. Playing Chambers at Tackle and Butler at guard (with Levitre sitting) probably would've been safer, but the alignment of Walker-Wood-Hangy-Levitre-Butler actually gives the line a chance to be dominant. I can't remember saying that about a Bills O-line.....ever?

Every offense in the league has a complicated playbook, champ. Its a complicated game. MOST recievers don't do much in their rookie year. This is not specific to the Bills, its a league-wide thing. The ones that do contribute from day one, like Marques Colston, are the ones that hit the books and pick things up exceptionally quickly. Obviously this was not the case with Hardy, or he would have made a bigger impact when he WAS on the field. This means our guy is on the career path of most NFL recievers...the third season in the league is the make-or-break year.

I give it a solid A. You'll see me complaining about the cornerbacks, but the fact is we didn't pick a pro CB until the 6th round. Our first 5 picks were a pass rushing DE with enormous upside, a FS with 17 picks in 3 years, two highly-rated interior linemen and an athletic recieving tight end. How long have we been screaming for the Bills to meet those needs? This is a day to feel good, regardless of the wasted picks at draft's end. We obviously don't know if these players will be any good or not, but highly-rated players at need positions...if thats not an A I'm not sure what is. Honestly, I'm still glowing in the aftermath of them taking the draft's best speed rusher in the 1st round. That pick was long overdue.

Well Maybin might be able to play OLB in a 3-4, but certainly not here. On topic though, seeing as Hill was franchised, I assume he'll get some serious coin?

When did I say being like Kyle Williams is a positive? In a system that asks its DTs to penetrate and make plays behind the line of scrimmage (as opposed to simply eating up space and allowing others to make plays), Williams starts, but is darn near invisible. That isn't a good thing. He only starts because its one of the weakest positions on the team. The only intriguing UDFA at this point is the OT, imo. Thats to be expected, of course, these guys are the bottom of the barrel.
