  1. And I do not care what the numbers say...he's vastly better than Chandler at making yards after catch. Not even comparable.
  2. Agreed. The offense now being average or a little above doesn't seem like the time to take our foot off the pedal, it's the time to think about what can be done to make it one of the best.
  3. Oh sorry bud, I guess that's the difference between you and me...the sharpness. He's a good rusher and a decent cover guy, no? Did a decent job on gronkster if I recall.
  4. They both pass rush with a great deal of tenacity, as if their lives depended on it. Its a specific comparison, and you're sharp enough to have understood this the first time.
  5. If Cog is to be on a 2-year deal as reported, we should consider drafting his replacement after year 1 anyway. Bring the rookie in a year before you need him, develop him and make sure he can play, so we don't have another John Miller situation where he's getting outplayed by Kraig Urbik because he's not ready. A team with a coordinator who's as awesome at running as ours is, and who passes the ball as little as possible, should be looking for All-Pro caliber OL play, not Kraig Urbik starting at guard or the equivalent. I would love to see Whaley spam picks on the OL and give Roman a shot at building the best running game this league has seen in a decade. This is Rex/Roman's path to a Lombardi, if such a thing exists. OL and defense baby jmo John from Hemet, I don't expect or want everyone to agree.
  6. IMO a wise GM would view Wood as a year-to-year proposition. That's great he 'actually' (appropriate word) had a good year and stayed healthy this season, but will that be the case for the next 4 years? Who the heck knows? He also makes over 6 million on a team that needs to sign Tyrod/Gilmore/Glenn, plays in a power run scheme despite not being a drive blocker, and has only 2 yrs on his deal. And I said draft a center now with an eye toward cutting Wood next year. That is not cutting him for a crapshoot rookie, its cutting him for a player you've evaluated and developed in Roman's system for a full season. Everything you say is true, I disagree with absolutely none of it. Everything I've said is also true.
  7. It becomes sensible to me only if you draft a center with an eye toward saving a bunch of cap money by releasing Wood next year, and using that money to help with Tyrod/Gilmore/Glenn. One good draft pick essentially makes two veterans expendable, one now and one next year, and you'd just need a cheap backup at that point. They'd also have to be fully comfortable with Miller at RG this year.
  8. Made me laugh out loud dude. So accurate. I love Hughes, he rushes with that Clay Matthews tenacity. He's always on a mission. And its shocking how fast he is and that he's actually got some cover skills. But my goodness Jerry, get a grip.
  9. Totally agree about Roman's O. Concerning the quoted part, personally I'd think about trading down in that scenario. There will probably be at least one GM who sees Treadwell as his Watkins, and the Bills could certainly use the extra resources with a good bit of re-tooling to do and somewhat limited cap dollars.
  10. I'm more than happy to take your word for it, you're the guy who opened my eyes to Watkins in the first place.
  11. Maybe you guys are right about Treadwell, and maybe you're right about Roman, I'm just a fool on the internet who likes the Bills. (I appreciate your kind words) I don't think a 1st round pick is necessary to do whats being talked about as needed. And I know it seems silly to talk about getting better at running the ball when we were 1st in both yards and average rush, but I really think that with a special run game guy like Roman it could be even better. For example, we have zero All-Pro offensive linemen. Imagine what he could do with 3 or 4 players of that caliber! Would we still be 19th on third downs and 30th in three-and-out percentage? Would we be better in the red zone? I bring this up again because this is the way I would free Sammy Watkins up. Ram it down people's throats, control the clock and the game at large, wear the defense down, until they creep up to stop it and they can't pay Sammy/Clay/Woods the same attention. Ya gotta embrace what your coaches do best. I'm fine with an upgrade over Woods but I just don't want it in the first 2 rounds of the draft, those are precious resources. I could rattle off half a dozen positions or more where I'd rather use those vital acquisitions. Just my opinion, my friend.
  12. Perhaps. I want him to stick with the running game, because that is the thing Greg does that's special. He's always been passionate about running the football and has built up an impressive collection of varied ways to make it happen. Its easily his greatest strength and I think the Bills should utilize it to the very fullest, and continue to create the passing game largely from play action. When that isn't enough, you have Sammy and Clay winning matchups. edit- and I base it on Greg's entire NFL body of work. edit II- also think we should beef up on the line, making both the run and the play action even more effective than we saw last year.
  13. I feel the same way man. But I'm not going to build a team with the stated goal of being slightly above average, maybe its just me.
  14. It would help, a big Dez-type is a piece we don't have. How much it would help is debatable. I would be open to this move with a different coaching staff. These guys are unlikely to ever run a run-n-shoot or a system that will take full advantage of dual #1 WRs and a plus TE, we're always going to run the ball as much as we can and base the passing game off play action. This move would be continuing to burn through rare, precious 1st rounders to get players the coach will never fully utilize. And maybe I'm wrong who knows, but to those who think Roman will change, maybe be careful what you wish for. Are you certain that you want to see what a Greg Roman offense looks like with 35 passes a game and less effective play action? I wouldn't want Roman to change his stripes. Running the ball is what he does best and he does it as well as anyone in the NFL. He is right to emphasize this tremendous strength as much as he possibly can. The roster should be built in a way that supports his philosophy and his strength, as much as can be. Three first round picks and a $38M contract to acquire three passing targets doesn't seem a savvy use of resources for a team that actively tries to pass the ball as little as possible.
  15. I like the Sanu (loved him since Rutgers) idea a good deal better than Treadwell. You're talking about using a first round pick on a decoy.
  16. Sorry for my abrasiveness but what the heck would we do with Watkins, Treadwell and Clay? Treadwell might die of boredom. Yes he'll help if Sammy is out, other than that he's largely a blocker and a decoy. The Steelers target two different receivers more than we do Watkins, we need to target Sammy far more for our best chance to win and to get him happy so there's a prayer at re-signing him, and the solution is to burn a 1st round pick and split up the too-few targets that Watkins did get? Obviously an upgrade is always good but this is wayyy down the list, for me.
  17. Agreed. Next offseason we may be in a similar place with Eric Wood, another fine Bill. Might not be a bad idea to prepare for such a thing a year ahead of time at a position with a steep learning curve.
  18. I'd love to have Kyle as a nickel pass rush specialist replacing the NT, but only on a pay cut. Even then I'm not sure it makes sense. What a great Bill, though.
  19. What are you saying here exactly, John? Check out TBC's post above- this was not the greatest show on turf. The offense was better than the defense imo, and far better than it ever was under Marrone and Hackett. But if we ignore a unit every time it gets slightly above average, how are we ever going to win a Superbowl? Something on this team has to be elite, no? And seeing as the offense is a lot closer than the D...well, they say many people quit just before reaching their goal. I am of the opinion that if you gave Roman the kind of line he had in SF, you could realistically be talking about an elite offense. You'd have the same offense he took to the NFC Championship, except Tyrod > Kap and Watkins > Boldin. Put together a defense that can get a pass rush and the turnovers that follow, and you're talking about a Superbowl contender. What is your plan for winning a Superbowl?
  20. I genuinely appreciate your show of support, 34, but I beg to differ:
  21. Fair point- the second Patsterisk* game is another example.
