  1. In my case, it means an additional 1% sales tax to pay for an already-twice refinanced bond debt for a free House of Worship for a multi-millionaire, four members of his family, several friends and confidants, and 53 other well-to-do individuals.

I don't know what any of that means. Is it an inside joke in Cincinatti?

Was my original post completely retarded or does nobody know the answer to an otherwise pertinent question? <---boy I might have just set myself up big time with that sentence.

  2. So if we were to start paying athletes, wouldn't it become an arms race and the schools willing to dish out the most dough would get the highest recruits?

Now, your logic is that these guys bring revenue to the schools and other students are benefitting from the exposure and cash flow. Well, if suddenly these schools have to be paying their football team, their swim team, their women's volleyball team, your logic for getting them the money in the first place is shot to pieces since that "extra" money is no longer "extra."

Colleges and Universities are not athletic institutions.

  3. What if the Bills were to move to Toronto, their offices, their practice facilities, everything but the stadium? Does a team HAVE to play its games in the city which corresponds to their name?

I ask because on the video of the pep rally there was an interview with Canadian ticket holder who said that they're pumped to have them coming up to Toronto, but Buffalo is a much better place to watch a game, "obviously."

Anyways, I didn't know what the technical rules were for what makes the Buffalo Bills the BUFFALO Bills or any other team for that matter. Seems like the name/stadium location could be arbitrary- i.e. the teams from Arizona, New England, and New York.

If, perchance the Bills would pick up and move to Toronto, but maintain the name Buffalo and keep playing its games at the Ralph, would the locals be quite so bitter? I'm inclined to say no.

Now, I understand part of the reason for migrating the team in the first place is the low ticket prices, but since Canadian fans have shown a willingness to travel, couldn't the corporate sponsorships which are lacking in Western New York be picked up by the Canucks in one way or another? Do they already have access to these sponsorships but just don't use them so they/their clients don't have to cross the border?

  4. In regards to the TBD "swim off" - a post which does not appear when I click through the thread, may be PhilBills blocked me?- I would also like to add to my list of aquatic accomplishments that I finished 3rd in the under 10 division of the 1994 Canal Fest Intertube Race in North Tonawanda.

  5. I see, I figured they were for something, like for whiping sweat from hands, or holding something in place, or cover maybe a cut or something, but I had no idea

Yeah, they do look really wierd, I just chalked it up to being in a really really tricky spot- a spot you could isolate, but not without completely locking up a nearby appendage.

  6. I have a quick question about the picture, and it was something my mom pointed out while she was watching some of the olympics a couple days ago. What is the pick stripe thing the one is wearing accross her stomach, and the black thing the other is wearing over her shoulder for? They look like strips of tape

As for the original post, I admit, some of the "sports" or "events that they put on make me wonder about the olympics. Whats even worse is seeing the list of the different groups fighting to get an event put into the olympics. Synchronized Diving does take some work though, anyone remember ski dancing (or something like that where they were on the side of a mountain and did a gymnastics style dance routine on skis) from a few winter olympics ago? I don't have a problem with the shooting events, it does take alot of training and skill to do what they do, not everyone can just pick up a gun and shoot out the centre of a target.

I think they are strips of tape- probably holding in place a heating or gel pad of sorts. The reason they look so haphazard is probably so they don't limit mobility.

  7. There's a game on Thursday. That means a closed-to-the-media walkthrough Wednesday morning, followed by a bus ride to Toronto.

    Chill.

Oh come on, Lori! A special interest segment is all I ask! Something about Ralph's grandkids, may be an expose on Melvin Fowler's favorite recipies, the players' reaction to Madden 09, anything! Anything!

  8. You started this thread because you're one of those "I desperately need to be smart in a contrarian manner" without any fact to back it up other than "I swam competitively" - as if that holds any merit.

Oh my gosh. OH MY GOSH! You're right! Oh thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Oh wonderful and wise Alaska Darin, how wonderfully fortunate we are to have you! Without your cunning insight we lowly Buffalo Bills fans would wander aimlessly through this scary place called the internet!

    ALL HAIL THE MESSIAH TROLL!
