  1. The other threads addressing the addition/subtraction of Olympic sports got me thinking. What events would make up the Buffalo Olympics?

    Thus far:

    Bowling

    Horseshoes

Softball (slow pitch only, of course)

    Euchre

    Bar Shuffleboard

Shoveling (if its the summer games, maybe shoveling blue cheese?)

Marathon (I have determined that it is 23 miles from Delaware Park to Mickey Rats in Angola...Maybe some shots at Rats to make up for the missing 3 miles?)

-side note: the marathon must be completed in Zubaz pants.

Pogey (more of a winter event...holding onto the bumper of a moving car and cruising through the snow.)

Ride the Metro after Thursday in the Square

Spelling contest for Polish last names

    What else??????

    AWESOME LIST!

In addition to horseshoes, there should also be Polish Horeshoes or bags.

In Polish Horshoes you balance a beer bottle on the end of a ski pole, and take turns throwing a frisbee trying to knock of the opponents' bottle. One must have a beer in his hand at all times and points are tallied thusly:

A clean hit of the opponents' bottle: 3 points

a hit pole which results in a toppled bottle: 2 points

a dropped frisbee: 1 point for thowing team (hence the beverage requirement)

  2. In my opinion this team could be very good this year.

A lot of things are going to have to go the right way for us though.

I really like our chances against Seattle. Week 2 in Jax will be a great test, but if we can come out on top in that game the road to a 5-0 start going into the bye week is preeeeeeeeetty smooth.

Add in the very possible four game sweeps against the fish and airplanes and we just need to pluck one or two more wins to make it to the promise land!

  3. What's the easiest way to get to and from Buffalo and Ithaca college without a car?

Is there a bus? A train? A local air field?

Any tips/links would be greatly appreciated. My girlfriend is starting graduate school at Ithaca this week and we're trying to make some plans to meet up for a Bills game and I'd like to buy tickets TONIGHT!

  4. Peters was a former tight end. Imagine him as a max protect fullback in passing or as part of the jumbo package on goal line or third and one. Or put him in the h back position and have him bury a DT in a tackle trap play. Any linebacker will tell you the nastiest hits they get are from the fullback. He would be intimidating. Remember, peters ran a 4.8 40 a few years ago.

I realize no coach would ever do this, im just saying...

Yeah, no. The hardest hits sustained by a FB can be accredited to the fact that most FB's are 250 lbs of muscle squeezed into a 50" frame (hyperbole alert). When a guy with that kind of density and whose center of balance is somewhere around his ankles puts a lick on you it's a localized, often times "low" blow.

None of the aforementioned appiles to the 6'4'' Peters.

  5. Haven't heard squat in the press anywhere else regarding 7th rounder, Demetrius Bell, who played a good bit of left tackle last week. After my brother pointed out how well he played, I went back and took a second look and specifically watched most of his offensive plays. For the most part, the guy played extremely well, especially considering it was only his second game as a pro.

The other thing I really took notice of was that it's very obvious what one of JPs biggest problems is - after his intial dropback, he doesn't step up into the pocket when the D-lineman are coming around the outside. He gets that deer in the headlight freezeup and gets sacked. He could give himself that extra second to find a receiver or throw it away. He's taking sacks unnecessarily.

JP also steps up before he's ready to throw. So he drops back, stands, steps up, then stands some more.

Regarding DBell, may be the Bills strategy moving forward will be to unearth freakish talent in the late rounds for crucial positions like LT so they can save some scratch and constantly have a rotation of opportunity hungry players. Certainly doesn't bode well for Peters' demands.

  6. Just wondering if anybody has noticed a marked increase to the pace at which the Bills run their offense. I was thrilled that it was one of the very first things Schonert mentioned after his hiring, particularly since it had been one of my most irritating pet peeves about Fairchild back from Day 1.

I've been away and haven't seen a single snap of preseason so I'm wondering what it looks like. Are they getting in and out of the huddle quickly, getting to the line with plenty of time on the play clock, forcing defenses to scramble as drives progress, or even mixing in a little no-huddle maybe?
