  1. US Men last won gold in 1904

US is on their third coach in four years, and like Big Cat said, were on their way to falling out of the world's top-10

Hungary has won 8 of the 24 water polo gold medals in the Olympics, by far the most (including gold in Sydney '00 and Athens '04)

Water polo is Hungary's national sport and they are the undisputed best team in the world

So yes...This win would be big time...

    :w00t:

The Pistol Pete of water polo is this Hungarian dude named Tomas Fargo. He has this video we used to have to watch at camp of all these crazy ball drills he does. Practically laughable some of the stuff this guy could do in water.

  2. Hey Cat, did yu play water polo???? Where did you play and when?I played at Slippery Rock in the early 80"s, when we actually had a good team, at least on the east coast. Went to NCAAs two years in row. Got our arses whipped out in CA both years, but great experience anyway. Our first game in the one trny was agaisn't Cal, and we had the best sprinter on the east coast, never lost a swimoff to start a period, but he couldn't come close to winning agaisnt this guy from Cal. Come to find out it was Matt Biondi, World Record holder in the 50 at that point, he was swimming agaisn't LOL. Lets just say we didn't exactely scout the west coast teams back then, never really expected we could win a game agaisn't them anyway.

My coach back was Dick Hunkler, legend in womens water polo, coached the womens natioanl team for quite a few years.

Hell yeah! I played at Bucknell twenty years later! Ever have any run-ins with Scott Schulte? He used to come back with NYAC to scrimmage in our pool, and those old balls you to play drunk or not having yet been to bed from being drunk the night before. Nevertheless they always whipped our aces!

We used to beat pretty bad on the Rock, though. :w00t:

But you're a fan of The Wire! Hell yeah x 2!

  3. If he's going to have to play through little knicks and bumps during the regular season, should he play a series or a quarter a little dinged up in the preseason? We all know playing with injury is a MAJOR part of being a professional football player.

    -OR-

That's stupid...No sense running him out there if he's not 100%. These games mean nothing and are not worth a few extra reps.

    ?????

Let's also not make this a singular issue: Hardy and Parrish are out too. Same logic applies.

    ?????

Jauron has said the starters will play the whole first half, may be more.

    Second choice.

  5. You couldn't get a ticket to the NE* game, could you...

That was a typo I haven't been to 15 games.

I've only been to five, this will make five years in a row though.

I am however 1-4. The last game I went to was Week 2 in Pitts 2007, it as brutal. The game before that was at the Ralph against the Pack in 06- so if they win again when I'm in Buffalo, "that's called A WINNING STREAK."

  6. Set the TIVO....

What is the size of this upset IF it were to occur ?

Hungary is gunning to be the first team since England in 1920 to win back to back to back gold medals.

    I'd say it's a men's Large-Tall cut

And like I said, we came in ranked 9th, already upset the 1 seed.

  7. Going into the games ranked 9th, they'll be capping off their improbable run at the gold late Saturday night (3:30 am ET)!

They'll be facing international powerhouse Hungary (that's right) and are looking to make the upset of the century!

LAMP: Part of the reason they've been so successful has been Merril Moses, their goalie, and a guy I coached with at a summer camp in 04!

    USA! USA! USA!

  8. Gratz but how about setting yourself up for a season ticket streak a year?

Edit: I'm just being jealous since I would need to move to the States first in order to attend...

That's a real bummer man. If I had any money whatsoever, I might consider season tix. Problem being, another "money" factor would be the 7 (not 8, thanks Canada :wallbash: ) plane trips from Chicago to Buffalo over three months.

It would do wonders for my rapid-rewards account, but I'd be in dept to my ears. Small price to pay, sure. But I think I'll give it a few more years! B-)

  9. Your right (quite a bit,is a little extreme)

Four games at end of 06.

I was wondering what his condition is now and couldn't find much. I know he's missed a lot of practice.

TSW is the best place to get the skinny, so I'm asking.

Honestly, unless it's season ending, I would take all t-camp injuries with a grain of salt. These guys are too much of a financial liability to play through bumps and bruises when it doesn't count. If a guy sits out here and there, IMO it speaks more to his preparation and the coaches' comfort with their place on the team, etc.

I wouldnt' worry a Chinaman about Crowell's condition going into the season. (knock on wood)

  10. The season hasn't started, buth thus far, the front office has gone out and added the players -- at the positions -- they were lacking. Lets take a look:

    1) LB. Mitchell is an upgrade. they have a little more depth there now. Health will be key. But on paper, they have some servicable tacklers to use.

Agreed. Mitchell is an upgrade and depth has thusly improved, especially with the run these guys all got in light of last year's injury fest.

    2) Corner. Last season, they had ZERO depth there. They can now plug various guys in there. I'm a little concerned about McElvin's tacking ability. His return game is terrific however.

They have six solid guys they have to pick from. It's a good problem to have.

    3) DE line. signing williams and the additon of johnson and stroud were good for depth. This should all benefit McCargo -- who showed signed of becoming dominate. Remember, McCargo was a junior when he came out -- so he is just now coming of age. Kelsey adn denney are terrible. They are both too undersized. I have seen both man-handled. Hopefully Ellis will challenge. Kelsey is the MOST overpaid player on the team. Denney should be cut. He is useless. Even as a backup. Strong words, but if you watch them, they are pathetic.

I disagree with what you say about Kelsay. Given the system, he CAN succeed. But, it's a system which relies on pressure coming up from the middle to flush the QB in the DEs' waiting arms. We have that this year for the first time, so I say hold your judgment until 2009.

They (the D-line) got some nice pressure on Ben, allbeit fruitless pressure, but he's a big boy, and one of the hardest QB's in the league to take down. Furthermore, given Stroud's initiative on the interception play to grab and hold BR in the spirit of preseason friendliness, it may also have been the case that the Bills D-line were taking it easy on the QB shots. That could explain why 8 different guys got hands on him during 3 different plays, yet no sacks were tallied. Or it could be me making excuses for our players. We'll find out Sept 5!

    4) TE. Fine looks good. he has good hands and is a good blocker. ROyal is a proven vet. They still need an upgrade. But this was a problem spot for 10 years -- and they now have some servicable guys at this position.

People love to hate Robert Royal. And it always comes back to that dang feet-out-the-back-of-the-end-zone play. He's definitely done more positive than negative during his time in Buffalo. He's no superstar, but IMO, he's just fine.

    5) OL line depth. Every team doesn't have this. However, good lines can "plug" gusy into their line -- and make it work. Chamber is actually pretty damn good. I think dockery and walkers pressence and fowler -- allows the rest to feel comfortable. The value of dockery and walker is evident.

I'm curious to see how soon and how well Bell will fit in with these guys. At this point I hate Jason Peters because he's left a question mark on a unit which should have been rock solid this year. They still might be, but it's not a certainty like it might have been.

    6) WR depth. hardy will be a player. that is all they need. parrish and reed are 3rd down specialist. but hardy is the real deal. corners have trouble matching up. Evans can get single coverage -- and that matchup is what make hardy a key player to have on the field. He can draw coverages and is a pain in the a$s to cover and account for.

Lee Evans will have a break out year. Get him on your fantasy teams, ALL OF YOU!

brandon, and levy before him, had added some nice fiber to the lineup. this team, if lynch holds up and shoebel and the defense backfield plays sold -- could win 10 games. the division is better. favre can win. miami will compete now. the pats are still unbeatable. but still, the bills have an identity now, and they have a little moxie. edwards is patient and doesn't make bone-head plays. he manages the game. he is our rich gannon???

Trent Edwards is our Trent Edwards. He's not our Elway, he's not our Pennington, or Jay Fiedler, or any body else folks have tried to compare him to. The man has an opportunity to do great things and to set the bar for QB's in the league. It would be nice to have HOF'er takin' snaps, but lest we forget little Eli got HIMSELF a Super Bowl ring...

  11. He was the MAJOR reason for the Bills loss. Jacksonville, AS A TEAM, was better than Buffalo AS A TEAM. That is occasionally when you need an exceptional performance by your 4th-year QB to lift you up on the road, and steal a game you're not supposed to win.

Watching first-year full-time starter David Garrard compared to Losman in that game was a complete joke. Losman looked like Tulane's QB.

He made error after error, dumped the ball off until finally throwing downfield late in the 4th quarter when Jax had blown it open. He knew it was likely his big chance to grab the starting job back and stamp himself as the face of the franchise, maybe even leading a playoff push. His performance that game had me thinking the Bills were light years away from the playoffs.

And the interceptions? They didn't bug me all that much. I understand that they happen when you're trying to make plays. What bugged me was JP's quotes after the game, when asked about the crucial, game-changing INT when the Bills were down 22-14 in the 4th quarter:

Hahahaha...So, down by one score in the 4th quarter, you finally throw downfield...And your receiver was open ("we actually had it") EXCEPT for the LB you didn't see who intercepted the pass???? Nice....Hit the bench.

To continuously watch the guy make the same mistakes is torture. At least with Trent we'll hopefully get some new mistakes.

JP was quoted BEFORE that game saying that the opportunity was "do or die" for him.

  12. I can't listen to this stuff at work. However my take is that the entire body of what can be called religious doctrine, all throughout history, is simply a collection of made-up answers to questions that people are afraid to admit they don't have real answers for.

I actually JUST finished listening to it.

A buddy of mine has a link to a similar youtube selection which also deals with this notion of the barriers caused by religious taboos.

How can a person be considered crazy for believing that Elvis is alive and well in Reno, while 22% of Americans are CERTAIN that Christ will return in their lifetime and it's totally socially disruptive to think of them as kookie outcasts?

  13. 16 of 32 (50.0 Percent) for 163 Yards, (52.0 rating, 5.1 yards per attempt) 0 TD's, 1 INT, and 2 Sacks

    18 of 38 (47.4 Percent) for 257 yards, (76.3 rating, 6.8 Yards per attempt) 2 TD's, 1 INT, and 3 sacks

    27 of 40 (67.5 Percent) for 211 yards, (67.8 rating, 5.3 yards per attempt) 1 TD, 2 INT's, and 1 Sack

    22 of 36 (61.1 Percent) for 257 yards, (82.8 rating, 7.1 yards per attempt) 0 TD's, 0 INT's and 0 Sacks

    23 of 31 (74.2 Percent) for 176 Yards, (74.1 rating, 5.7 yards per attempt) 0 TD's, 1 INT, and 3 Sacks

    23 of 42 (54.8 Percent) for 206 yards, (58.2 rating, 4.9 yards per attempt) 0 TD's, 1 INT, and 4 Sacks

Just for Sh*ts and laughs, of of those 6 games, which one is supposed to be the game that JP played so badly in that it proved to everyone that he is not starting QB material? And who do those other stats belong to?

The 2 int's tipped me off that this was the Jax game. And let's face it, stats don't tell the whole story. In addition to being really really bad interceptions (not tipped three times or batted around only to land in a LB's facemask, but literally into the DB's numbers), they also came at points in the game which resulted in HUGE momentum shifts.
