  1. Now - knowing that this is just another way to get people to buy more music (in that respect it is Genius), played with this for the first time - thought it was pretty cool. Click on a song in your library - shows 5 or so songs from the same artist - then a list of other songs from all other artists which 'you may like'. There were some songs that seemed to come up with greater frequency - and some head scratchers - but also some nuggets too. I actually was pretty impressed with the overall relevancy of the songs it chose. Interesting too it seemed like the more obscure the song in your list - the more obscure the songs it chose. there seemed to be some non-trivial smarts behind it.

I ran the update last night but haven't had a chance to play around with it. Overall you'd say it does more good than bad?

  2. I would take Pitt....by the way what does Ibid mean??

It's a term used to provide an endnote or footnote citation or reference to a source that was cited in a preceding endnote or footnote.

    EDIT:

"This guarntees my liberty. LIBERTY, in case you've forgotten, is a soul's right to breathe. When it cannot take a long breath, laws are girded too tight. Wihtout liberty, man is a syncope."

    "Man is a what?"

    "Ibid, your Honor."

  3. And here's my take on the Crowell situation, which is actually just asking a question.

The Bills played a lot of nickel on Sunday, negating the third linebacker, anyway. Even if Crowell is playing, you're gonna keep Poz and Mitchell on the field, leaving Crowell as the benched man in nickel.

So, my question is, did the Bills play a lot of nickel because Crowell wasn't there, or was it going to be gameplanned that way, anyway? A lot of teams play the nickel as their primary scheme. Maybe we can....or should, for that matter.

We certainly have enough CB talent to use Nickel as a feature package. Many speculated that the CB frenzy this off season was in preparation for the pass happy Pats*...

  4. From what I've heard, the coaches were never high on him, both on and off the field. They feel he didn't give his all and thus were never going to offer him an extension.

I suspect that the Bills told him all off-season (since his knees have been a problem for awhile now) to have surgery and he refused, looking to play through it and get that big contract. But it backfired. The same can be said for Merriman, although he's definitely a great player.

Where/when did you hear that the organization wasn't high on Crowell?

  5. No link. The pics were e-mailed to me at work. Because of the content, I deleted them.

    Sorry.

Reminds me of the time I found the Holy Grail but decided mankind would be better off without access to its awesome powers. So I tossed it into the middle of the Indian Ocean on my way home in a row boat!

  6. Yes. In the first half Stroud chased Hasselbeck out of bounds behind the line of scrimmage. I turned to my dad and said, "he should get a sack for that." The original statkeepers completely missed that one.

On the other sack, I believe he initially shared it with Williams but the tape must have shown he was really the one who took the QB down.

I said the same thing on that OB'er. Is that the ruling on the play?

  7. I know the Bills defense played superb in their first game. Mitchell and Poz looked fast, Stroud was a beast, Williams and Johnson played well, etc., etc. I know what Crowell did to the team sucks, and I do think this defense will be very good, I just can't help but think that they would be that much better, even if a slight bit, if Crowell was playing

Sure, he'd add another dimension. He was named the starter for a reason, afterall.

My take on the situation after pondering it for a bit last night: Crowell wants to stay. He's got a few ticks on the odometer, sees the upside of the team, may be his family (wife, kids) are nice and settled in Buffalo and he'd prefer to re-up with the organization before next season. He may even be willing to take a pay cut.

Perhaps he expressed this desire to the team, and they decided it would be best if he chose to have the surgery now, get healthy, and then sign an extension which keeps him in WNY for the rest of his professional career.

Is this completely out of the question? And did I just skew this thread away from the OP's intent? If so, sorry!

  8. I think Giants are an easy pick...espcially since you won't want to take them in division games. I also think GB is pretty solid and Tampa is a reasonable pick.

But what do I know...I had Indy last week.

I wouldn't touch that ATL v TB game with a 10 foot pole. And you're probably right about GB over Detroit, but it's the Lions first game at home, and they are divisonal opponents. May be that's just my quirky rule, but part of me believes divisonal games are ALWAYS up for grabs (esp in week 2!).

  9. After picking Philly over STL last week, I'm still in the hunt. Because of the Bears, Falcons, and Panthers games 18 of the league's 50 people now find themselves with the option to buy back in! But this week is a KILLER! No clear winners anywhere!

    • CHI @ CAR- 2 schizophrenic teams facing off here, no CLUE which squad will show up for either of them.
    • TEN @ CIN- I like TEN here, but now that VY is down and with them playing in Cincy, it's a tough call.
    • GB @ DET- *I won't pick games from divisional matchups

    • BUF @ JAC- I do actually feel very confident about the Bills, but my glasses are also a fine rose color and I don't want to throw the Bills away just yet (2 games against MIA to go!)
    • OAK @ KC- *Ibid
    • IND @ MIN- Indy will be looking to bounce back, but they've got a TOUGH one here on the road against the team that a.) runs the ball and b.) stops the run. Hard to bet against those attributes.

    • NYG @ STL- The Giants could be a steady pick here. They love winning on the road, but then again this is the home-opener for STL so anything could conceivably happen. Plus, I picked STL to lose last week...
    • NO @ WAS- See Chi @ Car
    • SF @ SEA- * Ibid
    • ATL @ TB- * Ibid

    • MIA @ ARI- I like AZ here, but again Miami's home opener. I might be the only person here who thinks Miami might actually be dangerous. I liken them to a sick animal- they really have nothing to lose and are getting awfully tired of getting kicked around.
    • SD @ DEN- *Ibid

    • BAL @ HOU- I could also go with Houston in this game, but don't know enough about either team to put my money where my mouth is. I didn't expect Baltimore to win last week.
    • NE @ NYJ * Ibid
    • PIT @ CLE *Ibid
    • PHI @ DAL *Ibid

So my very short list of potential winners this week is AZ, NYG, HOU, and Buffalo. Yikes! Anybody have any suggestions?

  10. Please delete if this was already posted, but here is the Jags 2008 schedule.

Their next 6 games are as follows:

    Buffalo

    at Indy

    Houston

    Pittsburgh

    at Denver

    Cleveland

This, after opening with a loss. The term "must win" is tossed around far too often, but if they lose this game, they are all but done. With those injuries, they might be done anyway. They could conceivably finish under .500.

In any event, I look for them to go all out, including trick plays, etc. If I know this, I'm sure Jauron will too and guard against it.

    GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Yikes! No gifts there!

Could Buffalo possibly end up with 2008's easiest schedule?

INDIANAPOLIS - Indianapolis Colts starting defensive tackle Ed Johnson was arrested early Wednesday on a drug possession charge.

Colts president Bill Polian said the team was still gathering facts about the case before determining how it will discipline Johnson, but Johnson will not play Sunday at Minnesota.

“He will not play this week, for sure,” coach Tony Dungy said.

Polian said Johnson was stopped for speeding between midnight and 1 a.m. on Interstate 465 just north of Indianapolis. Police also charged him with marijuana possession.

He later was released on bond from the Hamilton County Jail.

Johnson was temporarily expelled from Penn State in 2005 for violating the school policy on sexual misconduct and confining another student against the student’s will. He was reinstated in 2006, but later suspended for the Outback Bowl for violating team rules.

Once considered a first-day draft prospect, the big defensive tackle went undrafted in 2007 draft.

“We had a talk with him and I thought he was going in the right direction,” Dungy said last summer when Johnson was trying to make the team. “He has to understand the environment he’s coming into and what we expect from him.”

Johnson’s past indiscretions could also have an impact on whether the league takes action.

“As in any other incident of this nature, it will be reviewed under the league’s substance abuse policy,” league spokesman Greg Aiello wrote in an e-mail to The Associated Press. “A player’s prior history can be considered in evaluating potential discipline under the program.”

The 6-foot-2, 296-pound Johnson was the biggest surprise in training camp last year. He took advantage of an injury-depleted defensive line to start all 16 games, finishing with 63 tackles, one sack and one forced fumble.

The Colts (0-1) had even bigger expectations for Johnson this year, but Wednesday’s arrest has the Colts reassessing those plans.

Johnson was not in the locker room Wednesday to answer questions.

The arrest couldn’t have come at a worse time for the Colts. They allowed Chicago to run for 153 yards and average 4.7 yards per carry in a season-opening 29-13 loss and now face back-to-back games against two of the NFL’s best running tandems: Minnesota’s Adrian Peterson and Chester Taylor, and Jacksonville’s Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew.

One option for Dungy is moving 274-pound defensive end Raheem Brock inside, where he was the starter last season. Second-year player Keyunta Dawson is the other starter. They also could use their most experienced tackle, Darrell Reid, in the lineup.

The only other tackles on the active roster are Eric Foster, an undrafted rookie, and Daniel Muir, who was claimed off waivers last week from Green Bay.

It’s the third legal incident involving a Colts player since April. Police charged running back Kenton Keith with criminal trespassing after refusing to leave the parking lot of a nightclub. He has since been cut.

Perennial Pro Bowl receiver Marvin Harrison was interviewed by police about a shooting near his North Philadelphia car wash in the spring. He wasn’t charged.
