Is this even a question anymore?
You can blame it on him, the coaches, the receives, the line, the refs, it really doesn't matter anymore.
If the Bills have to pass, they lose.
He has no contract next year.
One of three things will happen:
He'll be brought back as one of the cheaper backups in the league We'll end up paying much more for an established backup who's a FA (think Hoyer) They'll ride with Cardale
All three options will be determined almost exclusively by Cardale's development
EJ played against SFO, and not just in garbage time.
I actually really like the wrinkle he provides as a power running QB who's a threat to throw...while TT is on the field.
Plus, he's our backup. The guy behind him--we're led to believe--isn't ready to go. I don't think that EJ plays = loss is as much of a foregone conclusion to presume Cardale would be a lateral move. And more importantly, QB's get screwy when they get tossed into the mix prematurely. Let's not risk that with Cardale if we don't have to.
I don't see a good reason to get rid of EJ, frankly. He's worth more to us on the roster.
Trading EJ would be a mistake.
Not acquiring AJ in a trade means nothing. Doesn't mean we tried and couldn't make it happen. Doesn't mean Whaley is asleep at the wheel. Doesn't mean anything.

This guy stays on my Bills Media Twitter List even though 95% of his tweets are about the VA and Jim Webb:

The #Bills are amused by widely varying reports on @CutonDime25's status for Sunday. He's a competitor & it is too early for any reports.
And Wawrow's calling it game time.
these reports are absurd. they are all over the place. i'll believe what i hear sunday morning, and won't pay it any mind until then.
unless the bills come out and make an announcement, this is all gamesmanship, IMO
I think we have a pretty reliable body of evidence to determine how he will respond to this adversity.
Of course, I could be wrong.
But if I had to wager on it...
