  1. I liken it to you are either a fan of the sport, or the fan of a team.

For example, I am a fan of the Bills but not of tackle football (I watch almost nothing but the Bills).

However, I am a fan of ice hockey with my favorite team being the Sabres and second favorite the Habs. But I will watch many many other games than just games of those two teams.

Very true statement. I like to have NFL games on in the background while doing other things but I normally just actively watch Bills games.

The exception would be if I'm watching a team to lose (Patriots) or the Super Bowl. Even then I'm usually playing darts or hanging with friends. I do try to pay attention to the commercials tho' B-)

If the Bills did ever move (not saying they will) I may not care to be a "fan" of the game anymore. Which would suck b/c football is the only sport I like to watch on TV.

  2. Thought we could all use a little reminder during this s-l-o-w off-season. I think I found this on TBD last year or the year before and thought it might help some of the faithful get over the hump of nothingness. This is not mine but I had saved it and like to read it now and again. I claim no credit so all you copyright lawyers out there please spare me. The writer may actually be one of you so if Tim is reading this then this is a homage to you. To the rest of you, enjoy, keep your chin up, keep the faith and keep chugging down that Bills Kool-Aid.

who were we talking about again...

  4. But this is not about you, Pete.

There are plenty of people here who have been Bills fans for longer than you've been alive.

I may be younger (38) but my first Bills game came when I was still in the womb.

    Beat that!! :nana:

It isn't too difficult to search out background on the Coach and find where current and ex NFL players have discussed their interaction with Marrone. I am looking forward to seeing how he does with this team. I truly believe last year the Bills played uninspired football.

This year, on the other hand, I believe Marrone will take a group (albeit a small group) of talented veterans and a number of rookies and UDFA's and get maximum production from them. We may not have a winning season, but we will at least have players who respond to the coach and D Coordinator. Unlike Gailey and Wanny, I firmly believe Marrone and Pettine will demand excellence rather than mediocrity. It starts with veteran leadership and it has to spread throughout the team. We need a hard nosed group of young rookies and UDFA's. Looking forward to the season.

Q: Can you talk about your general thoughts of Coach Marrone as a person and a coach?

A: As a person, I think he is a great guy. Obviously having played for him as my o-line coach in New York we became friends. He was the first coach that I ever had that was close to my age in my career. We developed a personal relationship with our families together and things like that. I think he is a great guy. I think he is a good person and he is a great friend.

As far as a coach, I had four great offensive line coaches when I played and he was my third one. He was a coach that brought a lot of insight to the game both from a player’s perspective, because he did play in the NFL and got a couple of years in.

I thought what was really cool about him was that not only did he know how to coach the game, but he knew the history of the game. He would teach us about the history of the 4-3 and 3-4 defenses and what coach developed this scheme or that scheme. That was pretty cool from a player’s standpoint because who was someone who appreciates the game itself. He was a coach that knew what he was talking about and all of the players respected him highly for his coaching ability.

    Works for me

  5. I don't think they will sign anyone.

At 4 o'clock or at all this FA season??

Are you posting just to see your name or something?

Of course they will sign players, it's just a matter of who and when.

I think they will sign someone b4 the day is out, just not close to a Mario type.

Hopefully young with potential rather then old with experience.

  6. I will bet my motorcycle(s) the Bills will win more than 2 games this year. Who's in ? Mattsox, care to place a little wager?

Think positive fella's. Think positive. Its gonna be an entertaining season. No, we probably won't make the playoffs this year. I get that as a multi-decade fan. Next year ? Oh yea I think we will.

Think positive fella's. Its what makes the games so entertaining to watch.

EDIT: Mattsox your post is silly. We dont even know who they will pick up in FA or who they will draft.

    jb

I'm in. I think, kool-aid not withstanding, that we will go for yet another season of at least 8-8 and maybe better but just not good enough to make the playoffs. We are only 2-3 players away from being pretty decent even if those 2-3 have to be major contributors. The draft will tell where we are at the key positions and hopefully FA will give us at least one impact player at a key position. If we are to gamble on this then at least wait till after draft and FA. If we are to have a strong feeling of our upcoming season then again, wait till after draft and FA.

  7. Summarize it: we get two of the top 100: Landry & DeVito

This belongs in the rumor thread but since it is still all rumors now...

Out of 100 Free agents they mention Levitre in the Vasquez prediction but does not have a tag of his own, WTF?

unless he is like Victor Cruz...

The rankings do not include restricted free agents like Victor Cruz because they almost never go anywhere and aren't worth discussion.

    25. Guard Louis Vasquez -- Andy Levitre is this year's top free-agent guard, but Vasquez is younger and not far off. Vasquez has both coaching-staff and front-office ties in Indianapolis, and the Chargers can't compete with the Colts under the salary cap. Expect him to land in Indy.

Free Agent Forecast: Colts on a seven-year, $44 million contract.

    60. Strong safety LaRon Landry -- Landry is coming off a highly productive season in New York -- 100 tackles, two picks, and four forced fumbles -- but his market isn't as hot as he hoped. Ex-Jets coordinator Mike Pettine is now running the defense in Buffalo, and needs a strong safety.

Free Agent Forecast: Bills on a five-year, $25 million contract.

    84. Defensive end Mike DeVito -- DeVito's background with ex-Jets defensive coordinator Mike Pettine should attract him to at least one team besides the Jets. Pettine is now running the Bills' defense, and knows DeVito's strength as a one-dimensional run stopper. Buffalo annually gets trampled by the run. On a cheap multi-year deal, 28-year-old DeVito could help fix that.

Free Agent Forecast: Bills on a five-year, $12 million contract.

  8. I didn't see any of them wearing a Bills uni. Should we be panicking?

No, I don't think we need any BIG free agent signing unless Levitre counts as one of them. (as long it's not too big) ((that's what she said.))

We got Mario last year and although I don't think any human being should earn that much $$ I actually think he will work out just fine this year assuming he stays healthy. No wrist or turf toe problems would be nice.

  9. While this year may be different, we have no QB and the worst defense in the league. We are not good right now.

That may be true right now, today, but the season doesn't start for 6 months. (Man that is depressing)

plus, I think the defense under performed immensely last year and we are not all that bad off. For me the biggest ? is QB, then WR and LB. As far as No QB, that is a non-issue. We will have someone other then RF, it's just a matter of who. I personally hope it's Nassib, just not in the 1st round.

  10. I don't know what this means... are you implying that the Patriots are inept? Haven't they had probably northward of a .750 winning percentage the last decade and a half? And no known locker room problems... there is nothing inept about them at all, and I HATE them, but they are one of the most EPT teams in pro sports haha

-Happy Friday, I'm glad you are enjoying yourself...

Sorry, I should have listed the teams (In the past) that were included. I also have since learned this list was about the past and is about 5 years old. (should have known, sorry) So for all the naysayers there is still hope, we can still make the next one. But yes, in 1990 at least, the Pats were inept. youtube

    10. 1990 Patriots

    9. 2001 Panthers

    8. 1989 Cowboys

    7. 1996 Jets

    6. 1980 Saints

    5. 1968 Eagles

    4. 1990's Bengals

    3. 1972/73 Oilers

    2. 1960's Cowboys

    1. 1976/77 Bucs

  11. in our most recent drafts we have picked 4th,13th, no pick, 8th, 12th, 11th, 11th, 9th, 3rd, 10th and now 8th which averages to picking 9th. if we don't get a franchise QB, things can and probably will get worse.

Things can always get worse or better but at least we are not inept yet like some of the the teams on the list like the Jests or that Belicheat team.
