Peter king says Chan gone on Monday...
JM57 replied to OhIDunno's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
How do you hide an inaccurate QB? You rely on a strong run game. Seems to have worked just fine for the Vikings. How do you hide only having one decent WR? You rely on a strong run game OR have a really good weapon at TE. Again, it seems to have worked just fine for Chicago, Minnesota, Seattle, Cincinatti, Houston...... The difference is coaching. Good coaches get the most out of what they have and can mask deficiencies at MOST positions. The one thing I will agree with you about is the LB's, especially in the scheme they are running. -

Lots of people loving on Jacobs and Golisano here. No thanks. The Bruins win in spite of Jacobs, not to mention he treats his employees like dirt. Golisano, someone said expect the same team for the next 1t years....couldn't agree more after seeing what he did to the Sabres. Also, Jacobs couldn't own a very big stake without giving up his ownership of the Bruins since they're different cities, kind of like Stan Kroenke just had to do because he owned the Rams and Nuggets. -
Don Banks - great quote about Nix and why he should go
JM57 replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The difference here being we all know the amount of power Littman and Brandon have are more than your typical front office members. But setting that aside, I find it hard to call a full house cleaning bringing in a former coach as GM first, then a former scout as GM second. Its not like they were an entirely new set of eyes. They already knew the power structure of the organization and how badly it was run. -

It could be argued there was only 1 real "full house cleaning" when Donahoe was brought in as President/GM and hired his own coach and so on. Since then, its been a whole lot of internal hiring and familiar faces. Not to mention Littman and/or Brandon as common denominators to the whole process -
I have two ACL's. However, I have never torn one like Chandler just did.

And then he choked in OT. Tony Romo.....the single most un-clutch QB to ever get so much love from major network analysts

Let's stop living in the past. It would be nice to have Polian back in the fold as a consultant, or President of Football Ops or something. But he didn't exactly build a powerhouse team in Indy. He got Peyton Manning, gave him some really nice toys, and NEVER, I mean NEVER put together something even resembling an average NFL defense. Whether that was a product of having a dome team or not, I don't know. What I do know is it only netted them 2 Super Bowl appearances, whereas putting together anything better than what...the 30th ranked D likely would have made them the most dominant team in the history of the NFL. And let's not even get into his incessant drive to give his son the keys to any franchise he's employed by. What can I say about Chris Polian.....just look at the Colts' 2010 and 2011 drafts. They may be even worse than Buddy's attempts those years.

Rumor only!! Involves John Gruden

I wonder if he named his son Jay after his brother, the Bengals' OC? -
Draft Order Now highest is #4, lowest is #10

Yeah, let's pick a 3-4 rush backer and switch back to the 3-4 again. there's a winning formula. -

SPIDER 3 Y BANANA -
I would like Polian back as something like President of Football Operations, helping to oversee the search for a new GM and Head Coach but not actually overseeing the building of a roster. He did alright in Indy, but he also had one of the best QB's of the modern era and never had a good D. I respect his football knowledge and all, but I don't want him building the roster.

Holiday (free agent) Wish List...
JM57 replied to EmotionallyUnstable's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Exactly why he is #1 on my wish list. Good post. Like I said in my explanation, a talented veteran like Grimes gives you a Gilmore/Grimes tandem on the outside. That allows Brooks and McKelvin to be your nickel/dime guys working from the slot, where their speed is an asset and they aren't as apt to have to cover 40 yards downfield where they both seem to get lost in space. I also like him because of the veteran presence. They NEED a guy like that. You can have all the talent in the world coming out of college, but there's STILL going to be a learning curve as a DB. I also agree with your sentiments about the WRs. It's now year 3 for Donald Jones. He may be a nice complimentary piece, but he is no #2 threat. TJ Graham's got another season or two to improve. He's shown he has the speed, now work on the hands. I think Jones failing to develop further (although we fans never expected much out of him) is the reason for Nix talking on WGR about that "WR who is open when he's not open". In many ways, that's exactly what David Nelson at 6'5 and Chandler at 6'7 are. He just wants someone with Nelson's height who can play on the outside. Having a combination of Stevie, Nelson, a new "big" guy, and Graham as your "burner" could be devastating with a QB. Add in Jones as your #5 WR and that's a pretty solid set of weapons, IMO. Third, I REALLY REALLY like Jon Beason. I am hoping the Panthers do cut him loose, or make him available for trade. He's one helluva football player, and if the price is right, I wouldn't mind seeing a 3rd-5th round pick (preferably a 4th or 5th) go to Carolina for a real player at LB like him. -

You're kidding right? Have you watched the clown trio of Williams, Brooks and McKelvin trying to play on the outside this season? McGee was the only one who did OK, but its quite obvious his career is over. Brooks seems absolutely lost in space on the outside. McKelvin can run with anyone but has no ball skills. Williams should be a safety. Yes, the LB's are terrible. But they need a #2 CB as well. I would love Gilmore and a veteran on the outside, with Brooks and McKelvin as nickel/dime, and Williams as the backup to Searcy and Byrd. It plays to everyone's strengths much better. -
What Kind of QB Prospect Would You Pick?
JM57 replied to BisonMan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree with this assessment. He's not Bledsoe. The Flacco comparisons are pretty accurate; he isn't going to scramble for yards, but he has enough agility inside the pocket to prevent some sacks. His arm strength is off the charts. The biggest negative for him is probably playing in the ACC and not dominating, but at the same time, take away TJ Graham and Russell Wilson, and I dare you to name me TWO NC State players since the Mario Williams era. Also, this is the kid that made Tom O'Brien comfortable with letting Russell Wilson go from his scholarship with a year of eligibility remaining. That is noteworthy if you ask me. -
Wish list for UFAs: One LB, Maybe a #2 WR, One CB to be #2 opposite Gilmore, preferably Brent Grimes.

"Thug ballcap" eh? Oh my, this post is awful WASPy

I wouldn't at all be upset with Geno Smith, and I have been tooting the Glennon horn since around Halloween. On the other hand, I would say no to Barkley and Tyler Wilson like others have in this thread. If we are talking 2nd-4th rounders, I wouldn't be upset with Landry Jones, Aaron Murray, or Ryan Nassib...depending on the round

Here's the first draft to post the Bills connection to Mike Glenno

I will stake a claim to being one of the first here at TBD to bring him up. Cant say I have seen much of him, but I did make a thread inquiring about him well over a month ago! -

Judging by the draft luncheons, it seems Whaley oversees a lot of the college scouting process now. He usually is the one who speaks about specific prospects. But as assistant GM, I doubt he has any real clout. When it comes down to it, its likely a decision made by Buddy/Chan with recommendations by Whaley and the scouts. So without knowing specifics, we cant know how culpalble Whaley would be. For all we know, he could have been preaching Dalton/Kaepernick at 34 and Chan and Buddy thought CB was a bigger need. Same with the Troup (Gronk) pick. I give him the benefit of the doubt for now. Innocent until proven guilty.
