....have you ever watched Freeman play? He's a developmental QB if there ever was one. See: Russell, JaMarcus. NO. THANK. YOU. We have players at QB (Edwards) and RB (Lynch, Rhodes, Jackson) more than capable of being starters at the NFL level. Let's fix those positions where we DON'T have quality starters (like Keith Ellison) first before we start making luxury picks, yes?

I like the newest one from Scott Wright/ DraftCountdown.com 1a. Brian Orakpo 1b. Brandon Pettigrew 2. Phil Loadholt 3. Marcus Freeman. DE, TE, OT, LB. That, ladies and gents, is how you draft. I would be MORE than happy with this. I like Freeman and I like USF's Tyrone McKenzie as OLB prospects for us.

Yeah that was one of those things where I was like Andre/Derrick...who? And just decided to leave them out.

Rank the DE's the Bills may consider at #11...

I'm very skeptical on everyone in round 1 I think. Brown is smallish. Ayers is a possible one-hit wonder. Maybin is small and put on weight and that could affect his speed, also a one year wonder. 2nd round: Michael Johnson if he's there is an absolute freak if you can get him focused. The "high-motor" guy is Paul Kruger from Utah. 3rd round: Lawrence Sidbury, Richmond. His NFLDraftScout NFL comparison was Hugh Douglas. Not ideal size, but no quit in him and has the ability to play versus the run and rush the passer. Compared his first step explosiveness to Trent Cole or Elvis Dumervil. Not quite as fast as Freeney, but better against the run. -
Well let's see. Steelers, Cardinals, Giants, Patriots, Colts, Bears, Steelers, Seahawks. So what's that.... Either Starks or Colon for Pitts which is a 3rd or 4th rounder. Mike Gandy for the Cards, 3rd round. David Diehl, 5th round. Matt Light, 2nd round. Colts LT at that time would have been Tarik Glenn, he was a 1st rounder. Bears LT at that time was John Tait, a 1st round pick. Steelers LT in Super Bowl XL was Marvel Smith, IIRC. He was a 2nd round pick Seahawks was Walter Jones, also a 1st rounder. So that's only 3/8 of your Super Bowl LT's. I don't really have the time to go around the league as of today, but I'd guess out of the 32, 14 or less starting LT's were 1st round picks.

It's easy stuff, and I'm interested in it so it's not a problem. I completely agree with you on the #11 pick. Excluding Ron Dayne, who after 1220 carries in college already had a ton of wear-and-tear on him, when Dan Morgan is arguably the worst player picked in that slot in the last decade? I think it's almost a lock to get a contributor at that pick.

#21 picks: Sam Baker, Reggie Nelson, Laurence Maroney, Matt Jones, Vince Wilfork, Jeff Faine, Daniel Graham, Nate Clements, Sylvester Morris

Here's a look at some of the players picked (some still relevant, some thrown in for Bills nostalgia) at these draft slots since 2000: #11: McKelvin, Patrick Willis, Cutler, Demarcus Ware, Roethlisberger, Trufant, Freeney, Dan Morgan, Ron Dayne #28: Lawrence Jackson, Joe Staley, Marcedes Lewis, Luis Castillo, Chris Gamble, Jerramy Stevens, Rob Morris #42: Eddie Royal, Tony Ugoh, Danieal Manning, Kevin Burnett, Travis Laboy, Ken Hamlin, Larry Tripplett, Cornelius Griffin #75: Reggie Smith, Laurent Robinson, Jason Spitz, Eric Green, Max Starks, Chris Redman #110: Brandon Jacobs, Nathan Vasher, Seneca Wallace and the immortal....Brandon Spoon. #121: Duke Preston, Justin Griffith, Correll Buckhalter and back in 2000...Avion Black. I was bored. Figured some draftniks might find some interest in the history of these draft slots.

I like a hybrid of the two a little better. I honestly don't think that Cushing OR Matthews is our answer at the WLB position. Neither are particularly good at dropping into coverage, they're better at rushing the passer. Unfortunately, with Mitchell, we already have an OLB who's good at putting his head down and rushing the QB and just decent at dropping into a zone. I also don't think that we necessarily need a 1st round talent to replace Ellison either. Maybe a 2nd, maybe a 3rd. I think guys like OSU's Marcus Freeman and South Florida's Tyrone McKenzie would be more than suitable replacements and good fits for our system, and should be available in the 3rd round. That would allow for something like this: 1a. Oher 1b. Johnson/other DE/Pettigrew 2. TE or DE if we went Oher, Pettigrew 3. OLB (Freeman, McKenzie)

and they're white. Yup, must be brothers. -
Dan Gronkowski, TE, Maryland - senior this past season. Will be available in the draft this year, projected as a mid-round pick (4/5th) and the #9 TE by NFLDraftScout. http://www.umterps.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt...wski_dan00.html http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dspro...9&genpos=TE Chris Gronkowski, H-back, Arizona - Graduates in 2010, originally played FB at Maryland, transferred to Arizona and played on their baseball team as well as the football team http://www.arizonaathletics.com/sports/m-f...ki_chris00.html Rob Gronkowski, TE, Arizona - The most highly hyped of the three. Will be available for either the 2010 or 2011 NFL Draft. NFL Draft Scout currently has him as the #1 TE for the Class of 2011. http://www.arizonaathletics.com/sports/m-f...wski_rob00.html http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dspro...1&genpos=TE Statline for 2008 season: 47 catches, 672 yards, 10 TD's. Missed 3 games. There's my research. Hopefully we can stop getting them all mixed up now.

which Gronkowski are you talking about? Rob is the TE for Arizona and IIRC was a sophomore....and a better receiver than blocker. I want to say the other Gronkowski on AZ is a FB. There's one graduating from Maryland who is a TE....I think...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anttaj_Hawthorne Hawthorne was expected to be a first round draft pick and have a bright National Football League (NFL) future, but a positive test for marijuana at the NFL Combine caused him to fall in the draft. He was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the sixth round of the 2005 NFL Draft. -
....because the Phins and Patsies run a 3-4 and we run a 4-3? Therefore meaning guys that fit Parcells defense don't necessarily fit ours? Smart thing would be to SWITCH to the 3-4.
-
I'll take option#1 because the FO would either A) NOT draft a TE with that pick B) draft a complete bust C) just fail at developing the TE

I'll buy them from you.

Your sarcasm detector is busted. Also, Skooby, go away. You're just as bad here as you used to be on SabresFans, with your power rankings and inside information. What's it like being the real life Andy Stitzer? -
Ask Thomas Jones and his Pro Bowl selection how Richardson was.

My choice: McGee, Greer, McKelvin, Corner this year and Greer, McKelvin, Corner, (fill in the blank) in 2010 is better than McGee, McKelvin, Corner in 2009 and possibly McKelvin, Corner and scrubs in 2010....

Did you actually watch him play? Dude is awful. They rushed despite Preston, not because of him.

Caldwell the Most impressive Center at Senior Bowl?

Aside from the fact he's undersized? Smaller than Fowler at 6'1, 298 -
And with the 11th Pick in the 2009 NFL Draft
JM57 replied to Nightcrawler's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I like this draft a lot. Caldwell has played against some of the best defenses in the nation week in and week out in the SEC. From his RollTide bio: One of the best linemen in the nation with agility, foot-speed and the flexibility to play several positions ... a team leader and one of the team's best pro prospects on the offensive line, has started games at center, guard and tackle during his three-year career ... an excellent student who earned his degree in human environmental sciences in under three years, the first Alabama football player to do so ... is working on a graduate degree in financial planning In the bold there....the first part appeals to us fans. The second part appeals to our front office. As for free agency, I would really like to see Channing Crowder here if they think he has the speed to play OLB. Keep Ellison around as a coverage specialist. Johnson-Stroud-Williams-Schobel Crowder-Poz-Mitchell McGee-Whitner-(need upgrade here or Scott)-McKelvin
