On the note of Fitz breaking the 3000 yard barrier, when was the last time a WR besides Lee Evans had 1000 yards? And it's not like Lee is even a lock to get to that mark, he's only done it in 2006 (the peak of JP's career here) and 2008 (the peak of Trent's career here)...congrats to Stevie Johnson on joining that group.
-
You did. He slid from RG to C after Hangman injured his knee in the first, then hurt his knee in the 4th. Levitre moved to C, the snap was fumbled and the Bills drive stalled on the 1
-
Why the Vikings won: Chan thought Bell could handle Jared Allen one on one for the majority of the game. A true WTF moment, if I've ever seen one.
-
I agree I'd rather see Levitre-Wood-Urbik. I know he doesn't move as well as Wood/Levitre do, but at the same time, I don't think whoever we've been plopping in at RT moves as well as Bell either, so that's something that needs to be worked on. Levitre and Bell provide us with a very mobile left side of the line capable of pulling and getting out in space, but that part of the run game isn't nearly as strong on the right side, nothing against Wood, more just the turds we've been churning out at RT.
-
Let's talk about this guy. Did anyone else not notice much of a drop off in play between Wood and Urbik over the last couple of weeks? At the very least, I think we have found our top interior lineman for 2011, but to be honest I think that as long as he bounces back well from his injury, he gives us the flexibility to replace Hangartner eventually, either with a Levitre-Wood-Urbik or Levitre-Urbik-Wood combo.

Did anyone just see that BOMB from Cam Newton?
JM57 replied to The Big Cat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would love to see it. But as a Bills fan in my early twenties, I have to ask. Have we ever had one? I know we haven't in my lifetime. In fact, I think Hamdan is the only QB over the last 15 years who wasn't "white" that I can think of. Me personally? I don't want Newton because he runs a spread option offense, which is fantastic in college but is not a part of the pro game unless you count the Wildcat. You know who else could run the spread really well and racked up a ton of rushing yards? Pat White and Tim Tebow. It may be too early to make a call on Tebow, but where is Pat White these days? Oh yeah....Miami cut him and he decided to embark on his professional baseball career instead. Put him in Alabama's offense, Stanford's offense, anything that requires diagnosing a defense more than "should I take this or give it to the RB" If he put up similar stats in a pro offense? Then yeah, absolutely this guy should be a #1 pick. But the fact remains that he is putting up ungodly stats in an offense that requires skills that do not directly translate to the NFL because unlike the NCAA, everyone in the NFL is an elite athlete. -

You guys need to put down the crack pipe if you think Newton is ready to be an NFL QB. That BOMB was tipped before it was completed, otherwise...it was just like any other Hail Mary pass ever thrown. Chuck it 50 yards and pray. Wow, I sure am impressed he can make that throw. -
It was said on the first page of this thread. The best thing we could hope for is that Harbaugh gets hired for an NFL job this offseason. That would probably be the only thing that could make Luck's declaration a sure thing. Why would he go back for another year with a new coach, new offense, etc?

Schopp sticks his foot in his mouth yet again

You mean on the throw that was intended for Donald Jones? Nice try, you dolt. -
As long as he's on the field against the Lions, I don't care about this week. I'm only able to afford to go to one game this season. I want to see Lights Out in the red white and blue.
-
...totally worth that third round pick.
-
I'd like to see him play a little more QB and a little less RB before anointing him a bonafide NFL QB prospect.... See: 129 rushes, 122 pass attempts.

Worked great this past Sunday until the feed crapped out in the middle of the 2nd quarter

After doing some research, I thought about it, and really Marv was only in control for one full offseason. Hired in January 2006, he had 3 months before the 2006 draft which had already been scouted for. 2007 was all Marv, and considering he was the GM for that season, we'll say the scouting for the 2008 draft was also all on him. I'll list the picks we made, and the ones who are gone will be in parentheses. 2006: Whitner, McCargo, Youboty, (Simpson), Williams, (Butler), Ellison, (Pennington), (Merz) 2007: (Lynch), Poz, (Edwards), (Wright), (Wendling), (Schouman), (Ah You) 2008: McKelvin, (Hardy), (Ellis), Corner, (Fine), (Bowen), (Omon), Bell, Steve Johnson, (Cox) The 2006 draft can be called solid. They may not be the best players in the league, but Whitner, Williams and Ellison are all starters (Ellison generally due to injury, but still he's started more games than he's sat). But come on? 1 pick left from 2007? 4 from 2008? 5 out of 17 picks? That's not how a team is built.

I don't see how you could be unimpressed by Luck's performance on Saturday, but impressed with Mallett's. I liked them both going into Saturday, and likewise watched both games. What I saw from Mallett was an unbelievable cannon arm, but also a tendency to trust that arm too much. He forced a couple of throws, threw some costly picks, and most of all...an inability to throw short to intermediate throws with any touch. There are 3 or 4 times I can think of where he threw a 5-10 yarder so hard his receivers couldn't even hold onto it. That's one area I'd like to see him improve. Learn that you can't always throw the heater. Also his accuracy was a little suspect at times. Luck showed that he can make plays with his feet if not with his arm, threw a couple of nice touch passes too. The first TD, to his TE Fleener is most prominent in my mind. He also showed a bit of extra confidence in his arm, I think the one deep pass to Owusu got picked off when he didn't throw a great ball. He was pretty accurate overall, and seemed to make the right decision with the throw 98% of the time. You could see him go through progressions and most of the time, not force it. Also on Luck's side...pedigree. His father was a QB at West Virginia, then backed up Warren Moon in Houston from 1984-86 (he was the starter in 1983)
-
I think the assessment of Mallett's short throws coming out too hot is entirely true. He's really fired some bullet passes in this game for only 5-6 yards and his receiver's can't even grab onto them.

Problem being that by the time we FILL said holes, Lee will most definitely be on the downside of his career, and we'll still have to draft a WR to fill that hole, along with the hole we already have at #2 WR.
-
This is dead on. Just in case you guys didn't catch it, let me run this past you one more time. LEE EVANS IS ALMOST 30. LEE EVANS IS ALMOST 30.
-
That's definitely terrible. It's amazing that his grandmother went back in, and just climbed into bed with his grandfather though. Love will make you do anything. It's clear she didn't want to live without him....a surprising thing to see in this age of 50% or more of marriages ending in divorce.
-
So you mean anywhere but HB, OG, CB and S?
-
I'm quite positive this team is locked for the top 3 with or without #83. Might as well make it a true rebuilding project.
-
This helps both teams, and the individual involved. Bills get draft pick(s?) to help build the team with more talent, Vikings get a burner at WR, and Lee Evans finally gets an opportunity to win in this league.

So How Has Drafting Spiller #1 Helped Us?
JM57 replied to FlutieFlake's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Generally speaking, the teams who pick in the second half of the round are pretty well set at OT or QB, or both. That's why they're making the playoffs while our once-proud team of choice continues to spin its wheels. It's not too often you see a run on offensive tackles outside of say, the first 12 picks of the first round. Going into the draft, I was convinced neither Okung or Williams would be available by #9, so I spent a lot of time looking into the other guys. I liked Bulaga, because even at RT, that's still better than Cornell Green. I liked Rodger Saffold a lot, in fact, he may have been my favorite of the bunch, and I was very disappointed to see him go off the board first thing on "day two" of the draft. I was hoping we would slide down and take him or Bulaga in the mid-to-late first, but apparently getting a third halfback was most important. -
So How Has Drafting Spiller #1 Helped Us?
JM57 replied to FlutieFlake's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Let me field this one. Next 5 taken after our pick of Spiller: 1: Anthony Davis, 49ers, #11 overall 2: Bryan Bulaga, Packers, #23 overall 3: Rodger Saffold, Rams, #33 overall 4: Zane Beadles, Broncos, #45 overall 5: Charles Brown, Saints, #64 overall Just for good measure, I will add this: 6: John Jerry, Dolphins, #73 overall 1: Davis is starting....at RT. 2: Bulaga is the primary backup on the Packers OL. LT and LG. 3: Saffold is starting at LT, while Jason Smith their #1 pick (#2 overall IIRC) from 2009 is at RT. 4: Beadles is starting at RT 5: Brown is listed as the #3 LT 6: Jerry is starting at RG. So, unlike the QB's, where besides Bradford, we can justify not picking one since they're all pretty much 3rd string...We could have at least helped our O-line situation at ONE of the tackle positions. I mean, Green and Bell are pretty awful. -
Anyone else watching Luck tear apart Wake Forest right now?
JM57 replied to sven233's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Luck is my favorite of the three, but I believe he's also the least likely to leave school early. That college degree from Stanford could be worth its weight in gold should the NFL not pan out for him.
