  1. Forecast continues to improve: SUN SEP 22 Partly Cloudy 72° 20% chance of rain WSW 9 mph 72% humidity UV INDEX SUNRISE SUNSET MOONRISE MOONSET 6 of 10 7:02 am 7:12 pm -- 3:14 pm Intervals of clouds and sunshine. High 72F. Winds WSW at 5 to 10 mph.
  2. This is indeed an issue. The beer barons have been lobbying the NFL for years to keep out-of-market games limited because some of their biggest customers, sports bars in particular, have told big beer that if ST becomes easily accessible, their Sunday business is dead. So, that's another voice in Goodell's ear...a big advertiser that contributes millions to the NFL's bottom line.
  3. I use to troll the bus lot for extra tickets. There were always no shows because some dorks overslept or were too hung over from the night before. I found most times the group leader would be more than happy to unload a ticket for $10...meant a free beer for him inside the stadium (this is before you needed a loan to buy a beer inside). If groups are still issued paper tickets as described above, maybe this is still an option?
  4. Long range forecast had been iffy, but it's getting better SUN: 14127 SEP 22 AM Showers 70°56° 40% Rain chance WSW 10 mph 71% humidity UV INDEX SUNRISE SUNSET MOONRISE MOONSET 5 of 10 7:02 am 7:12 pm -- 3:14 pm Rain showers early with some sunshine later in the day. High around 70F. Winds WSW at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 40%.
  5. It's just another carriage agreement squabble. Apparently, the ESPN/Disney carry agreements purchased several years ago by DTV are up September 30th. Hence, the sabre rattling by both sides, not unlike the CBS/ABC debacle that many DTV customers encountered this year. My DTV complaints are well documented on this forum but years ago, the station blackouts were usually commonplace on cable and DTV seemed to avoided these persistent battles. Now, DTV seems to have fallen in-line with their cable brethren and blacked out channels if agreements aren't reached. I'll say this though in a sort of veiled defense of the satellite and cable operators: ESPN, and the ESPN family of channels, are by far the most expensive for operators to broadcast. The cost of live sports has skyrocketed in recent years, to the point where these carriage agreements become financially unstable. When the agreements are up, ESPN needs to recoup their financial investments, to the tune of jacking up prices to never before seen heights. What's the ultimate solution? Maybe the ESPNs of the world stop being so reckless in their negotiations with the various leagues (BTW, ESPN is paying the NFL more for MNF than NBC is paying the NFL for SNF). What it may ultimately come down to, but this is years away, is that these networks stream their own product without carriage agreements, for example ABC or CBS stream independent of any satellite or cable carrier. Networks will miss the carrier revenue but the relationships with the cable and satellite behemoths are reaching a price point that will soon be untenable.
  6. Article here sez DTV has the satellite rights through 2021. Interesting perspectives on why the NFL is not rushing to stream...MLB is light years ahead of them now (even with their stupid blackout rules) but the NFL needs to find a way to stream without pissing off the networks. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-09-08/the-nfl-will-stream-games-once-it-s-good-and-ready-just-not-yet
  7. Same here, watched it last night...some funny bits but overall not in the league of Eddie Murphy's "Delirious."
  8. Did you see the clip from the 1988 Jets game? Custer's 7th Cavalry couldn't have stopped the fans that day.
  9. I recall seeing fans cutting up turf after the 1980 Fish opener as well. Saw one guy leave the field with a remnant large enough to cover my living room. Later, I saw him in the parking lot on the ground crying...said six guys jumped him and took his turf and ran off.
  10. The scenario you outlines pretty much paints what I've been told by others. Thanks.
  11. About to present my neighbors with a $2800 estimate to take down an old oak tree that branches out (pun intended) over my yard. Had an arborist out last week to talk about cutting back some of the branches and he said the tree is on the way out and should come down. I'm about 90 percent certain the neighbors will blow me off and I'll be on the hook for about $900 worth of branch trimming. Any advice on how to approach said neighbors is greatly appreciated.
  12. I was at the Rams game and don't recall fans on the field afterwards...some Bills came out of the locker room back to the field to dance with some Jills but that was about it.
  13. I thought of that play as well. Buffalo's Don Criqui and Bob Trumpy called the game for NBC and while the ball was in the air, Trumpy yelled out "REED!!!" and you're right, he almost came up with it.
  14. I'll bring the cooler...I picked up a nice one someone left at a Bills game several years ago.
  15. Paul MaGuire: "I think the fans are going to beat up the horses!" Classic.
  16. I found I got a good deal by NOT dropping @nucci name.
  17. Will there be prizes or is "bragging rights" the ultimate prize?
  18. Here is the key: "The NFL would be walking away from $3 billion if it ends the $1.5-billion-per-year DirecTV Sunday Ticket deal early, and Goodell’s emphasis on the satellite rights for the out-of-market package means that the league could try to keep the satellite deal in place and sell the Internet streaming rights separately. That would expand the availability of the premium package while also maintaining the significant revenue stream that comes from DirecTV." So...if next season the games are streamed by one or more outlets, and DirecTV still has the satellite rights, I would imagine fans would see some real competition here and prices would be affected, in the fans' favor, accordingly. I like the move by the NFL here...they get their $3B regardless from AT&T and they could sell the streaming rights to Google, Amazon or whoever...this could be the death-nail for DTV, however.
  19. With COBRA, don't you pay full boat of what your employer pays for insurance? That could be over $1000/month. I would think there's some cheaper exchange plans out there, especially in NY, who has embraced the ACA.
