apparently it's getting pretty good reviews...probably doesn't tell WNY'ers much that they don't already know though

    ABOUT THE FILM

The Forgotten City is a soul stirring documentary taking place in Buffalo, New York exploring race relations, segregation, crime, and politics.  Through exclusive breathtaking footage and one-on-one interviews with many citizens and some of Buffalo's most influential leaders, The Forgotten City exposes the bitter truth about the Buffalo and all inner city's.  It challenges stereotypes, encourages change and shakes up the status quo.  Buffalo was once a booming city, one of richest city in the United States.  Buffalo was once a place where slaves hid; a stop en route to freedom and later a city where the Civil Rights Movement was birthed.  Today, Buffalo joins the ranks among the poorest cities in the country; it is now a place where crime, racism and poverty plague this once great city.

As we journey through the city of Buffalo to explore the social ills that plague the people, The Forgotten City will take you up close and personal with the people.  We will gain insight from long time resident and leader Arthur O. Eve as well as get the perspective of political hopeful Darnell Jackson.  We will follow Pastor Darius Pridgen of True Bethel Baptist Church as he endeavors to instill faith in his congregation, in the face of the grim realities which they face day after day. We will follow a mother through the journey of healing as she has lost her innocent son to violence. We ask Buffalo Board of Education, Superintendent James Williams to discuss why the school system is in such a poor condition.  We will follow a father as he searches for employment in a barren job market. Walk with us into downtown Buffalo and lets we’ll talk with Lieutenant Bienko of Buffalo's Homicide Department as he explains why the crime is still increasing as the population is  decreasing.

We will journey through the “Queen City” where hopelessness rules the minds of most people.  Who is going to help make a change is it Byron Brown or is it you?  Walk with us and discover why the city has been forgotten and hopefully remind ourselves that it shouldn't be.

  2. ok...my 9000 BTU portable air conditioner is doing nothing!

cold air is coming out but you can only feel it if you're standing right next to it

move 2 feet away and nothing!

apparently it's still better than sitting in the basement though because my dogs came up from it a few hours ago and laid down next to me so i could watch them die slowly

  3. thanks for all the recs...i may check them all out as i've got nothing else to do and don't really want to burden my friend to take me around town

anyone hear of the BC diner? or something like that...saw it on the travel channel or something. they've got some ridiculously large burger that they'll name after you if you can finish it...might try it before my metabolism goes into hibernation

  4. if i didn't purchase an airconditioner on sunday, i think i might be dead now

i can't seem to remember a summer as hot as this in WNY

last summer was hot, but it let up at times. this summer has just been blazing non-stop since the end of june it seems

  5. Seriously guys this was a rant. I wanted to provoke thought. I see I did that - that's all I wanted. Job done.

Most if not all of this, especially the --warning part, is written tongue-in-cheek. I am kidding - what you think I go around talking to people like this? This is my goofing around but getting your attention at the same time thing.

this is the lamest attempt at backtracking ever

"of course i know 5x5 is equal to 25 and not 30! i was just testing you!"

  6. I'm moving to Concord, New Hampshire on the 10th for work but won't be able to move into my new place until the 13th, so I will bum around Boston and sleep on my friend's couch until then...

anyhoo, back story aside, I was wondering if anyone could recommend any good seafood restaurants in boston that are local inexpensive joints that locals would frequent. I'm not interested in any touristy locations like Legal Seafoods.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

  7. I need to watch that movie again sometime because I don't remember that at all.

It was only in the tv version. The DVD version released a few years back no longer has that scene for some reason. I believe the scene that has Superman destroying the fortress still exists on the international laser disc cut. Superman had to destroy the fortress because the authorities showed up to arrest Lex Luthor. His secret hiding spot was no longer a secret.

Superman I - his spacecraft crashes in front of his (to be) earth parents. The truck gets a flat. While dad is fixing the flat, the truck falls off the jack - and there's little super-tyke, holding the back end of the truck up in the air.

they do things in the movies that don't go with what's written in the comics

  8. If Superman was human when the baby was conceived, then wouldn't the baby become 100% human?  I was not aware that he didn't develop his powers until his teens.  I knew the thing about being exposed to our sun to get their powers, I should have factored that in.

So when Lex put the Kryptonite up to Jason White and it had no affect on him, is that because the kid hasn't fully developed his powers, or because he is half human and therefore not susceptible to the negative effects of the rock?

There's far too many holes in the whole concept to really be able to figure it out. Singer only loosely based his movie on the original 2 Superman movies. If he were to follow the original Superman II completely, there shouldn't even be a fortress of solitude as Superman went to it at the end and destroyed it.

There are alot of theories regarding Jason and the kryptonite. Personally, I thought that perhaps the kryptonite triggered his kryptonian genes and gave him the strength to throw the piano at the thug. Since he's half human, the kryptonite didn't bother him the way it bothers his father. I don't know if you noticed, but Jason no longer required the use of the inhaler after he threw the piano.

Collegeguy, why did you change your name?

    729994

well, i've been out of college (or at least undergrad since 2002)

and in 2 weeks, i'll be done with graduate school completely and begin working a real job

hence the name change...lest people think i'm a professional student :)

  9. Superman was human when he porked Lois Lane in Superman II

even if he wasn't though, assuming Lois' egg was fertilized, a baby Superman shouldn't have the powers to kick through Lois because

    1. Superman's powers didn't start developing until he was into his teens

    and

    2. Kryptonians need to be exposed to yellow sun to get charged up to use those super powers

  10. Its just that Chevy Chase is Fletch. I know that he has fallen way off in the past few years, but I could not imagine anyone else playing that part...he IS Fletch. What makes Fletch great isn't just the dialogue, but the way that it is delivered, he made the charachter. It would be like having the new Rocky movie played by someone other than Sylvester Stallone, it just doesn't feel right.

    729351

precisely...they shouldn't even bother calling it fletch

just give the character another name and pay homage to it by giving them similar characters
