Colts were pretenders to begin with. Buffalo would have whipped them.

It's not the players(aside from Brady). It's the system. NE is consistently there because of the type of plays. BTW, NE borrowed some 2 TE set schemes from none other than Roman run offenses. This is going to be one hell of an interesting year. The Bills will be motioning more presnap and mixing up different kinds of run plays. There will be plenty of play action and plenty of throws to TEs. I also don't think Roman has ever had a WR the caliber of Watkins, so yea, one very interesting year coming up. People don't realize how much of a tactician this guy is. We won't even recognize the offense.

Rex Ryan completely understands offenses
Rockinon replied to Kelly the Dog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Watching the Jets through the years, I have been surprised by the playcalling on offense many, many times and thought to myself, "Why can't the Bills draw up a play like that!". -
I couldn't help thinking that Buffalo could have beaten a lot of these playoff teams. Bills have been fun to watch this year. Going to fun seeing the offense get their act together next year. Yea, no way GB loses with our D.

Rex Ryan 1-18 interview on Fox Sports
Rockinon replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
David Lee actually has a hell of a resume. And everyone who says he messed up Fitz fail to realize that Fitz had his most productive season under him. Fitz was before and still is a turnover waiting to happen. Lee has been given some huge challenges in his career. Keep in mind, teams that hire a QB coach are trying to fix known problems with the QB or simply working with a rookie. Take a good look at this guy's job history. http://www.buffalobills.com/news/article-1/David-Lee-named-Bills-QB-coach/a804232e-e4ee-43c2-87c7-97363072a8fe Hard to believe so many are completely writing him off after watching that. Accuracy, and when he takes off running....wow! -
Pats* file tampering charges on Jets; Jets reciprocate
Rockinon replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They might even have some pantyhose left over from the Joe N. era -
A lot of those are read options where the QB has an option to run. By design, that is ground and pound. When the QB runs it is still a run. Next we'll be saying that passing isn't really passing.

Who I like is GB and the Colts. Who will win...NE and the Hawks.....sigh....

The Bills have one of the leagues best pass defenses. Games like the one against GB show just how great this defense is. Now just think how much better the Bills would be if they could just be successful running the ball. When you run, you are chewing up more clock and preventing these top QBs in the league from having as many opportunities. It's a sound philosophy. The fact that Roman brought back 1980s running schemes with so much success indicates that today's defenses are no longer prepared for such concepts. It's not just about running the ball, though. It's about having a powerful defense to go with it. Also, it's a necessary plan. The Bills are very unlikely to build a high octane passing attack without a passing machine QB like what you are dreaming of. That being said though, doesn't mean that the offense is going to abandon the pass. When you have receivers like Sammy and Robert on the roster, you use them. The big difference is instead of passing to set up the run, you are instead running to set up the pass. Make no mistake. Just because a ground and pound offense is installed, doesn't mean that the rest of the offense will be ignored. I can see Roman digging up playbooks from some of Buffalo's archives. If he thinks Walsh's running concepts were incredible, wait until he gets a good look at Buffalo's. Buffalo has an amazing history utilizing the rushing attack. Defenses today have been adapting with aggressive schemes designed to stop the pass. That aggressiveness can come back to bite you. One way to exploit those aggressive defenses is by using the running plays that no one remembers anymore. Today the pass is all the rage. Tomorrow that may not be true.

Gailey vs Roman? I can't wait to see Rex's defense destroy Gailey's offense. I like Gailey vs Rex better.
-
He did? That's news to me. I think EJ had a lot of great opportunities to run but chose not to.

What is a fair way to judge a hew hire?
Rockinon replied to klos63's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Who says it has to be fair when you are in an environment where the HC is seeking out the best he can find? Often in his mind it is the guy that he knows he can work with. Sometimes he needs to fill a position with who thinks is the best man available and the guy left over from the previous regime is the odd man out....even if he did a good job. Fair? Seriously? You are at the mercy of the one who is doing the hiring. Even if you are excellent at your job, if the person doing the hiring doesn't like you, you are dead in the water. -
If Kubiak gets a job, he'll throw Marrone a bone.
-
Ok, not in front of media. Right. However, Roman will still make the biggest impact as a coach. His philosophies are why he was hired. Yes, Kromer will certainly have some input. That isn't a bad thing. Many of the recent coaching hires of the Bills have been coaches that previously were in higher positions. I am not saying Kramer is or isn't the answer. I am just seeing a lot of people jumping the gun with off the cuff remarks. So far, I think the guy has a great resume. He may be a bit like Marrone, butting heads with wrong people though. I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing. Our OLmen might need a bull headed OL coach. On the other hand, he may be exactly what they don't need. Either way, it looks like a typical Rex Ryan hire. Boom or Bust. Can't argue with that either.
-
Another thing a lot of folks are overlooking, the OL coach is the guy who will be in the ear of the OLmen harping on things like technique. He's more like a drill sergeant and doesn't really design the plays. The big difference maker in that department is going to be Greg Roman. He is the one who will be drawing up plays. Kromer is just going to make sure that that the linemen are in position and using sound blocking techniques.
-
^^^^This. ^^^^ A coaches job is to identify problems and address them. Cutler is a tool and needed to be called out. Kromer's only mistake was doing so in front of the media instead of in front of the team. He was pissed and lashed out. Just because he didn't go about it the right way doesn't mean didn't have a legitimate beef. Of course none of us here have ever said something to the wrong person when we're pissed.

Brandon reports to Terry Whaley reports to Terry Rex reports to Terry Doesn't get any simpler than that. All of them will work together and in all likelyhood will occasionally disagree. Nothing wrong with that. Don't understand why people think this is a disorganized mess. There is one person at the top that makes a final decision if two parties cannot resolve an issue on their own. I have no problem with this structure at all.

[Please Change Title]Pepper Johnson?
Rockinon replied to uticaclub's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What makes you think it's cronyism? I am sure that any coach who hires assistants and feels they have been doing a great job, would want to bring them over from his previous job. It's not just because he knows them. It's also because he has first hand experience working with them and because he trusts them. If there is an assistant he didn't like.....well then it makes sense to find someone else. Also, the coach hired them in the first place. He likely feels some responsibility to look out for them. That to me is returning loyalty for being loyal. He had a working relationship with them and owes them for the loyalty that they gave him. The only time when that isn't true is when that assistant did not perform up to expectations. Cronyism? No. -
Rex on EJ: "I'd like to see him use his legs more."
Rockinon replied to johnwalter's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I remember seeing some read option plays where EJ handed the ball off but if he had kept the ball and run himself, he had a lot of room to take off. Meanwhile the poor RB ran right into a wall of defenders. Gotta agree with Rex on that one. -
Write ESPN to tell them to fire Mike Rodak
Rockinon replied to boyst's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The thing I don't like is how he regurgitates the same news over and over on twitter. Got so annoying(had to unfollow him) because he is never the 1st to report anything and then he would post on twitter what someone else found. Ten minutes later he copies and pastes it again. Sometimes several times in a day. The guy just lives on twitter. -
I see the Bills site is now saying Roman is named OC. Guess it's officially official. Looks like Chris Foerster(Forester?) for OL coach. Chris Russell @Russellmania980 1h1 hour ago #Redskins MT @AdamSchefter: Interesting: Washington granted permission to Buffalo to interview Redskins offensive line coach Chris Foerster. Chris Russell @Russellmania980 56m56 minutes ago Check that...My bad...I forgot that Foerster and Greg Roman worked together in Baltimore.....Relationship cemented then. #Redskins

Very true. Look at what our own defense does to running QBs like the ones on the Jets. Defenses push the edges so the QB is hemmed in to the pocket and can't escape. Generally, this gives the QB more time, but if they can't read the defense and find an open receiver they are screwed. And if they hold onto the ball too long they are doubly screwed. The NFL is catching on to all of the read option stuff that was hot for a while as well. You cannot expect it to last forever. The best QBs in the league are pocket passers because they are good at finding an open receiver quickly and getting the ball out to them. If they can pass on the run or take off on designed runs, well that is just a bonus. It however, is not something you can expect to succeed all the time
