Clicked on Bills and it shows all of the players. Kelsay is still on it. That puts us close to 29 million. Enough to get Byrd and Levitre back and then some. Bills have room to get another big FA. Also, with teams ahead of us picking up QBs(KC, Cardinals) in FA we could be sitting pretty come draft day.

He did not get cut....he retired. To save face probably but retired none the less.

Wait, what.......how much cap room all together now? Who's are the FAs out there now? Dwayne Bowe is still out there right. TEs?
-
How about the one the lit his team up the last 2 years.....Barkley?

Bills to let David Nelson walk?
Rockinon replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think a lot of our receivers could not stay healthy. It's no surprised given how small they all are. Maybe the thinking is that we are looking to get bigger. Nelson often was called a TE because of the types of things he did.....how he lined up. I think we are going after a real TE. And maybe a big receiver like Bowe. -
That is not my worry at all. Barkley is a pocket passer with some real talent. The best QBs in my opinion are not the running QBs. Brady, Brees, the Mannings, make their money by stepping into the pocket and firing away instead of running around trying to buy time. Barkley I think is going to excel in the NFL because he is all ready playing Pro style football and doing pretty damn good at it. He would certainly give Fitz a run for his money and frankly, I think he is the only QB in this class that could possibly take over right away.

Chandler would have better numbers if he played in all 16 games as well. Because of the seriousness of his injury, he's all ready projected to miss some time next year as well. He is big, strong, has good hands but is far from being an elite pass catcher or blocker. Aside from the injury though, I would describe him as a steady dependable player. We need another solid TE. I really think our passing game would be better with bigger stronger pass catchers. I don't think we had a healthy receiving core the entire season because they are all small and/or injury prone.

Another " wanting to sign " Bills FA

A. Williams actually did play safety in college. -
My best shot at the Bills Offseason
Rockinon replied to ....lybob's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They wil go with BPA on their board. It could very well be that a QB is selected in RD 1 or 2 but I wouldn't bank on it. Cordy was also a top left guard coming out of college. If Levitre can't be resigned that may not be a bad idea....not that is how I want it to play out. I want Levitre back. -
Agreed. WR is a glaring need. TE also, especially with Chandler injured. This team needs receiving threats. The only one we have is Stevie and that just ain't enough. I'd like a proven veteran receiver too.

That contract of Fitzpatrick's is killing us.
Rockinon replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That Kelsey contract is killing us. So is that super duper, wildcat, WR, KR persons contract. -
I'm curious how the Bills will free up enough cap space to sign these FAs. I want Byrd and Levitre too. Scott will come cheap I think and he has a lot of experience under Pettine. He'd be like a coach on the field. Could be useful in that respect. I also like Bowe, but I don't see the Bill's spending too big in FA. There is some talent out there that would help us in weak areas. It's going to be interesting to see how it all shakes out. T. Jackson, I just read is only getting paid 1.75M instead of the 4.5M originally believed. That leaves a couple million extra to play with than we thought. The bean counters are working overtime at OBD. I wounder if anyone else is getting cut to make room for another FA? Byrd is apparently meeting with Bills brass at the combine to talk about his contract. There is a lot going on right now. It's kind of refreshing finding all of these little tidbits in the news. The organization is making moves and it looks like they are busily checking out every angle. Anyway, even if Scott has lost a step, he could still be a valuable player. I'm trying to avoid judging the moves being made at this point. I can't really say I approve or disapprove of what is been done so far. For one, I'm just not knowledgeable enough at grading the available talent. It is evident though that the Bills are not resting on their laurels.

What are you "reading" into the current changes?

I guess you'll be waiting a while. He's likely going to start this year. -
Will Bills have a poor record in 2013 ?
Rockinon replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The defense was not just bad. It was incredibly bad. End of story? No. People are seriously hung up on the QB position around here. Building a championship team involves a lot more than a single position on the playing field. And defense still wins championships. As for the offense, you cannot be consistently good without a consistently good defense. Even Brady has been unable to consistently win big games with a poor defense. Now, I know we don't have the greatest caliber QB, but we can still win with an average one. All he needs is some talent around him. Yes, we have Stevie, to throw to but who else? Donald Jones?.....see ya! Give me a top notch TE or WR that isn't injured half the freakin season and suddenly a Ryan Fitzpatrick isn't as bad as everyone thinks. Give me a guy like Matt Barkley and the future could look even better, yes, but don't expect a QB like that to come right in and perform better than a wily veteran like Fitz. Addition by subtraction only works when you replace that talent with something better. -

Our defense was among the worst in the league in stopping the run and stopping the pass but our QB is our biggest problem? You people need to to wake up. -
The attitude of a good coaching staff
Rockinon replied to simpleman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You hit the nail on the head. This team is was very weak in receiving options last year, yet Gailey still wanted to force the pass. The success as an offensive guru is there. He just put too much faith in his ability to make guys like Donald Jones into stars, a bit over the top if you ask me. That plus leaving the defense completely in Wannstedts hands was a big mistake. I liked Gailey, but the bottom line is he had horrible talent at receiver/TE, a horrible defensive coach and oh ya......horrible LB play. -
Great article on Bills Cap Situation
Rockinon replied to Alphadawg7's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Fred was playing with a brace on his feakin leg and you guys are seriously dissing him. This team is most productive with both CJ and Fred playing, period. What is the matter with you people. If you want to cut someone, cut the dead weight, not your star players. -
This CBS Sports, Pat Kirwan report is kind of interesting. http://www.cbssports...-the-microscope Jonathan Vilma(He's 30 now) would be interesting. Like anyone else? This one on OLmen too. http://www.faniq.com/blog/NFL-Free-Agents-and-Potential-Cap-Casualties-Offensive-Linemen-Blog-61788 And on QBs http://www.faniq.com/blog/2013-NFL-Free-Agents-and-Potential-Cap-Casualties-Quarterbacks-Blog-61642

Which QB-WR combination do you draft?
Rockinon replied to Astrobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The whole landscape will change after FA. I think a guy like Alex Smith for instance is going to be let go, because no one is going to be willing to give up anything for him. The Jets are in salary cap hell as are other teams. Some FAs will be available and that will change needs during the draft. Who knows how things will work out. We may get a QB, LB, WR or TE in FA. Maybe a couple of players. Then Draft day will be all about BPA. -

I like Matt Barkley in RD1 Make a splash with a veteran WR in FA Best LB on the Board in RD2 -
The author of that article seems to think there are some very good TEs in the draft too. Can't say I disagree. I think the Bills were very limited last year when they lost David Nelson. Many considered him more TE than WR because of where he lined up. The thing that I love about the TE position is how versatile it is. The TE can be a big bodied FB like Corey McIntyre or a faster more athletic receiver. Is he going to stay in and block or slip out and catch a pass? Whether he is stationary or going in motion presnap, he has to be accounted for.
