2003'2 2007 Bills off-season (v.2)
Mike formerly from Florida replied to 2003's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The reason put MLB first is because we currently have NO MLBs on the roster who can start there. We have some young DTs who will get bigger and stronger. No offense, my list is in order. -
2003'2 2007 Bills off-season (v.2)

- I like Floyd Womack. But I think RT is more of a need than RG is. - RT is NOT more of a need than RG. The interior line of the Bills needs total upgrade (other than maybe Fowler). We are fairly set at the tackle position as it not a priority going into the draft. MLB OG DT WR CB (assuming we resign Nate) RB (fast 3rd down back who can catch) TE (not as important if we find tall receiver) Those are our needs in order as it stands today. I believe the Guard position is more important than DT because the offense needs to run-block better and retain longer possession. This will keep our D off the field at the end of games where we consistently blow games. -
Let's go Colts...Let's go Colts!!!

All of a sudden, the Colts are tough against the run. I believe they are a team of destiny. The Colts will win it all. Mark it down. -

I hope we play one of them the following week. -
Plead with Ralph

You have to manage your cap $ with the knowledge of knowing you will have to lock these guys up with big contracts. This year is the year to do it with JP, next year with Lee. -

You make the exact point I was looking for. Ralph better pony up the money if he expect fans to show up every Sunday. I think the fans are tired of losing class A free agents and acquiring useless class B FAs. If you really, really want to win and stop the BS rhetoric, he BETTER spend the money and use up his cap space (including resigning Lee and JP). Signing Nate will go a long way to insure us of some happy future. Forget finding DTs in Free agency. There are none to sign. You have to draft one inside the first two rounds. If you lose Nate, now you will have to draft a CB anyway and fill another major vacancy. I will accept overpaying Nate for big $$ and maybe one other player in FA--a linebacker. Forget the guards as well--they never work out in Free agency. -

You make some good points, but you need to chill a bit. -
Is there any way we can plead with Ralph to sign Nate? Tell him to pay whatever it takes because in the long run, he'll have less holes to fill with other free agent picks (and ultimately spend less!) and the fans will sell out games because they know the Bills mean business! Does he have an e-mail address? I know Marv will do what it takes because he knows what it takes to win. FA's are beginning to sign with their old teams. Nate wants to stay. Let's force Ralph's hand. I still can't over Phat Pat leaving.

NFL draft Pro mock draft
Mike formerly from Florida replied to Fingon's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
LOL! I think who the Bills pick, obviously, will depend on how much Ralph allows Marv to spend on FA. If we resign Clements (something tells me we are going to be surprised, and they will do it) and sign the Balt. LB (it might take big bucks as well), we might go WR in the first round followed by a run-stuffing DT and then a Guard in the third or visa-versa. We can get an effective nasty guard in the middle rounds. It is a waste to pick him inside the first 75 players unless he is a true gem. I would not sign a guard from FA as they tend never to work out--see Tutan Reyes, Villarial, the guy we had gotten from Philly a few years ago, etc. If the Bills are serious about contending, Ralph will have to own up and use up his cap. Otherwise, we can depend on more mediocre years to follow. -
"Trusting" Marv
Mike formerly from Florida replied to The Big Cat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bill, you need to make a "paradigm shift" and get off this nasty "hate the 2006 draft" syndrome. It was a near great draft--maybe did not address all the needs as you have so eloquently stated enough times to make my eardrums burst--but, the players picked mostly worked out, and have a chance to be very good players of which some already are. Marv did draft two DL-one who started and looked damn good, three OL-one who started who looked damn good, what else do you want?We might have a sleeper CB who unfortunately didn't get a chance to play (no fault of his) and will replace Clements adequately in two years. OK, so I agree, we should have went Ngata over Whitner. But you have to admit, Whitner will be a very, very good player next year (you know he will improve in his second year) and we'll be even more happier with this draft. So, now this year will be the one we concentrate on our true weaknesse--the INTERIOR lines and a middle linebacker. So, don't take this post personally, just trying to improve your quality of life by convincing you to relax on Marv and Modrak (sp?) and enjoy these young players as they mature. -
John McCargo???
Mike formerly from Florida replied to Robert Paulson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why don't we just wait and see before we give up on the kid. I'm sure Marv saw something in the kid that made him go out and reach for him. His other seven picks turned out ok. He needs another camp, stay healthy, stronger and put on 10 lbs., then let's judge him after one full season of play. -
TKO? Why are some of you...
Mike formerly from Florida replied to OCinBuffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If Cowart is 80-90% what he was next year, we have a hell of a player. HE needs another season of rest. His hamstring didn't help his progress. I'll bet on TKO any day. The man is a warrior and expect him to get his most of his speed and leg strength back next year. -
Home Schedule in 2007
Mike formerly from Florida replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If we don't get one night game, the conspiracy theory is back in. -
Try this: NFC best team is Chicago won't (not saying can't) beat SD, or NE, or BALT in the SuperBowl. If NE pasted the Bears, can you imagine what Baltimore and SD would do. The best three teams are in the AFC. The Bills would have made the playoffs with a NFC East schedule because they don't play NE 2X, plus Balt or SD. They probably win two of those games if you subbed the NFC teams with the same formula based on previous year's standings. That makes for a 9-7 record. Thus, a playoff berth.

Interesting tidbit per PFW.
Mike formerly from Florida replied to 2003's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Big deal--you don't blame the Bills. OK, I blame Tom Donohoe. There are certain players you pay as much as it takes to keep. Tom obviously doesn't really know football (that's right--I said it) if he didn't have the foresight that 80% of this board had---the #2 defenses would suffer immensely. The day Pat left, our run defense went with him. Now we're having fun trying to replace a guy that comes along every 10 years-UDFA or not. TD=Aszhole. -
" The Dolphins are in shambles with big question marks at the QB position and OL and an aging defense with no replacements in sight." Yeah...isn't it great. Nothing could make me happier for those idiot South Florida fans.

6. Ellison- broke into the starting line-up with injuries to TKO and Crowell and held his own though like almost all rookies he was a weaker point that OCs could pick on. OCs picked on him all right...with very little success. You vastly underrate this kid as he has fantastic instincts and made plays all over the field. He is very fast (albeit a little too light--but should gain a few pounds and get stronger in the offseason). He will start next year. No one will beat him out.

How good is our O-line?
Mike formerly from Florida replied to Peter's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm sorry, but you and some others got to be kidding. Basically you are saying that you would be happy with the current line except for inserting Reyes back replacing Duke. This line needs two big nasty guards who pile-drive the tackles into submission (at least some of the time)--especially if light-butt Fowler is going to stick around. Reuben Brown was that kind of nasty pile-driver--except for the stupid penalties. This line currently opens NO holes whatsoever--it was all on Willis to power his way for all the extra yardage. I'm sick of seeing him run into a muddled mass of bodies two yards behind the line of scrimmage and stretching and scratching his way back to the line of scrimmage. This line with Reyes will suck! Let's stop the denial and replace our guards. We'll have to go with Pennington as he might turn out to be more than just ok. Keep Gandy for depth. Damn it. -
Crowell is too small to play ILB-especially on this team. If anything, we need a big backer who shreds blocks, has great instincts, and flows to the ball. Crowell and Ellison will be our OLBs next year. If Spikes is ready to resume his effectiveness, he will play the strong side. Ellison would be the other backer. Ellison is going to be a very good player, IMO. Fewell will rotate Crowell at either OLB since he plays both positions fairly well and is a good cover guy. The Bills will draft a Middle linebacker inside the first two rounds unless they sign the Baltimore guy in FA. I believe this position is more important than drafting a new DT (because Kyle will be bigger and McCargo will be back), although a DT needs to be drafted along with a guard early. Thus, assuming we don't sign anyone: 1. MLB (big, strong, and good instincts) 2. OG (run blocker first) 3. WR (Tall, possession-type) 4. DT (Big and Fat) 6. RB (Leon Washington clone can be found late) 7. OT (project)
