  1. Thank you for the comments and criticism, everybody. Keep 'em coming!

I'd like to address a couple points that have come up...

Regarding the Cousineau draft pick, it WAS a busted pick. Yes, it eventually gave us the 14th overall in 1983 that turned into Kelly, but who's to say that the Bills wouldn't have taken Kelly at 12th overall instead of Tony Hunter if they knew they didn't also have the 14th pick? And was Cousineau really that much of a success with the Browns? I'd expect a LOT more from the 1st overall pick. Captain Hindsight would say that the Bills should have picked Dan Hampton (or Joe Montana, actually, but that would have been too controversial at the time).

Also, I was NOT attempting to hold Nix and Co. accountable for the poor DL and LB drafting of the past 51 years. This was more of a "FYI/FWIW" and "Bills in general suck" type of post with no specific agenda. The only person who can ultimately be blamed for this is Ralph Wilson. None of us have any idea how long any of the current team scouts have had their jobs here, but they certainly have not been around with the team for as long as Ralph has.

However, it might actually be fair to blame the current scouting team on the Maybin, McCargo, and even Flowers picks. All three were probably recent enough. So what lessons can be learned from these mistakes? Let's review:

    1. Flowers - classic "workout warrior" who skyrocketed up draft boards much farther than the game film would have suggested.

    2. McCargo - played on the same line as Mario Williams (1st overall) and Manny Lawson (22nd overall), so I'm guessing those two made McCargo look much better in college than he actually was.

    3. Maybin - only had a few really good games against smallish OT's as a sophomore, and he was also - erroneously - projected to gain enough bulk to play 4-3 DE despite having the natural shoulder frame and torso of a WR.

So basically, PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE GAME FILM. Pay attention not just to the player's performance, but to the teammates around him and the competition he's playing against.

That is why i am here

  2. This talk of athleticism is nonsense. He is the size of a tall safety. If George Wilson played outside linebacker, he's look damn athletic too flying around there with much larger bodies.

The team gambled that he could reliably gain 25-35 pounds on his frame. He couldn't and now it's over.

The difference is george wilson can actually play football

  3. I find it entirely possible he was rated 4th best end not even including KW. If that's the case- how many players do you have to bring in before cutting a former starter from a former coach and scheme now without a position even - gotta bring in 5 guys? 6? Its possible coaches are thinking Carrington, Edwards and having troup kick Williams to end is 3 new players at the position. We had to wait for draft and free agency to bring in a 4th replacement for him at a position he never really owned?

I love stroud as a player, think he's a good guy. It was the right thing.

I dont understand all the wanting to kick out Kyle Willaims to DE. He was a beast in the middle and I watched him get triple teamed some games most notably Pittsburgh. I'm sorry hes a player and you shouldnt fix what aint broke

  4. Where is Captain Hindsight when you need him...

I was in Class....just learning of the news now!

I will not fault the current regime. We should never have hired Dick Jauron! And Giving an extension to aging DT was foolish! We should have used that money for a player that is still on the roster today!

    PER ROTOWORLD:

8/21/2009: Signed a five-year, $17.6 million contract. The deal contains $15 million guaranteed, including a $7.087 million signing bonus. Another $7.4 million is available through incentives based on playing time and sacks. 2011: $757,500, 2012: $1.12 million, 2013: $1.4825 million, 2014: $1.5 million (Voidable Year), 2015: Free Agent

1/6/11: Aaron Maybin didn't even play special teams

Former No. 11 overall pick Aaron Maybin didn't even earn a spot on the Bills' special teams in 2010."He's on the outside looking in," said coach Chan Gailey of Maybin's roster spot for 2011. "That's where he is. If he improves, he'll improve his status. But if he doesn't improve his status he won't find playing time on this football team." The Bills can cut Maybin without taking a financial hit. Well, aside from the $7.1 million signing bonus they blew on him two years ago. Jan 6, 11:27:00

We should have drafted Brian Cushing!

  5. 2 regular season games in Toronto? Now, if the deal was they get all the preseason home games and we get all the real games, I'd be all for it. Actually, I think the NFL would be wise to have a majority or at least a significant percentage of the preseason games at neutral sites. Most season ticket holders I know have little to no interest in going to a preseason game and would rather not have to pay for them, and it would be a great way to expand the league's fanbase to have preseason games at neutral sites that are affordable for an average family of 4 that doesn't live close enough to an NFL team to see games live. JMO.

It wont happen....makes way to much sense
