Buffalo in the 1960's regarding AM radio and sports was in a pretty good location especially at night; for Baseball you could get the Chicago teams, St. Louis, Yankees, and Mets, and the Indians locally. The Pirates from KDKA and the Phillies from WICU. Basketball both New York teams and the Celtics from WBZ, same with hockey! I would stay pretty late listening to sports back then!

I tried the same method, WABC at night!!

I remember this game very well; living room full of Jets and Raiders fans all pissed off!

About 15 years ago in Honolulu Hawaii, Bob Seeger and Chris Berhman were getting trashed at one of the end of Pier Bars, both were easy going, friendly and very talkative. Seeger reminded those around him that he played Buffalo right after Bills beat the Dolphins ending the losing streak in September 1980 and the city was crazy! Good times and two great fans! Know people personally not from Buffalo who met and loved Tim Russert!

Take it anyway you want; offense needs to score points and defense needs to limit points in order to gain that critical statistic you so eloquently stated: wins! Probably a generational thing, I love defensive battles in open air, cold gray days, with mud, snow, beer, and hitting. Defense can still win, probably defies conventional thinking but in the end it still wins! You guys love Arena Football with two hundred points a game in your under shirt in a domed stadium enjoying 75 degree and dry days!
