You may be right. Even though it was blatantly obvious Losman would start, one of the best qualities of a good coach, something Lombardi and Parcells and Bellidick and other good coaches have been able to do is coddle certain guys and bite the ass off others, depending on the players individual psyches. There may have been something in Losman that Jauron saw, as little things increased his confidence in himself and his teammates, like the last quarter wins, and the bombs to Evans, that made Jauron believe this little added bit of public confidence from his coaches could add a touch to his growing bravura. 867161[/snapback] Careful - you don't want to be accused of using dimestore Psychology as an argument - no matter how much it makes sense - and yeah - I'm back

Are the Bills Really in Danger???

My family tells me Galisano is doing well with the Sabres. Perhaps he will step in and take over the Bills. Why the f not? -
The "Move the Bills to the AFC North" debate
OCinBuffalo replied to Ned Flanders's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A real Bills fan speaks...bump! Yes, Shula was on the officiating committe(my mom never stops with that one - those will be her last words ) Yes, we have a closer proximity to CLE, CIN, and PIT. SO F'ING WHAT???? Regardless, I got a lucky break work-wise so I am going to buy a ticket at the gate this weekend cause it's what I have been doing since I was 6 - not buying tickets - but being at the Dolphins home game come hell or high water no matter where I am working/living!!!! Why? If you have to ask - start rooting for the Cowboys - and Joe Buck for that matter. Seriously - it's not enough that we are starting to come around - now we have tools acting like it's the end of the world that we don't sell out a 75,000 seat stadium with 200,000? people living in the city. Philly never has a packed stadium - sure it's always a sell out - but there are always swaths of empty seats. Between scalpers(I don't mean bums outside the subway stop, I mean people who do this for a job) and corporate seat ownership, attendance has everything to do with who is hooking up who - or whose boss is happy/pissed, and very little to do with team spirit. In that sense thank God for Buffalo - at least there is one team whose attendance is about performance on the field; and not what happens in the office Mon-Fri or if it was a good week for the outfit guys, or if some Partner's wife is having an early afternoon dinner party. -
I haven't posted in a while but hey - I can't let this one go by Is holcombs_arm still calling for Nall to start?? Once and for all this reminds me of 1987. Kelly was a "drunken bum" according to all the pontificators - but then we went to the AFC championship in 1998. My uncle hooked my brother and I up with his tickets at the JAX game this year - afterwards I met Jim for the first time in that little bar on Abbot road - outside and then upstairs(for the usual suspects who bust balls) - I met Lee Evans too - he is tiny!!! I can't imagine how small Parrish is now. For five minutes it was small talk but I asked about JP(couldn't help it) in relation to his first couple of seasons. He laughed and said he wouldn't talk about it - but - the answer was in his eyes. Well, (disclaimer) from what I could tell being 13 drinks into it I have to say that my call is Jim thinks he's very good. That half a second was quite something - or I was just smashed. Either way, he didn't laugh at all. In fact, I got the impression that he was almost jealous in the sense that he wished he was still out there. You don't get jealous of a tool. Jim is a great guy - and now I get to bust my Dad's balls for ever talking smack about him:0 I have no idea if this means anything at all. And maybe it doesn't. But, I am pretty sure that Jim's reaction speaks volumes. I think that most of us who have supported JP since May have been vindicated. We have already improved on last year's record. This is a real team, with a real set of goals, leadership they can finally believe in, and perhaps most importantly a set of coaches who know how to use their players' strengths - finally. Now, if we can finally, finally, finally, do what BillNYC - and JAthur and his group - have been asking for and draft solid OL and DL we are gonna get back to being good. Merry Christmas(or Insert holiday here) and Happy New Year.

All while saying nothing truly convincing to detract from the fact that WM has done better than Maroney against better defensive teams. Now, as far as TDs go - finally, something that supports your point - at first glance. But, if we are talking about rushing TDs as a definition of good then Maroney is just as "good" as Charlie Frye since both have 3 rushing TDs. And he is worse than Kevin Barlow - 4 TDs??? No way I believe that. And - your point(whether you want to admit it or not) - he is better than Wills - again, no way. So I guess TDs aren't all they're cracked up to be when determining the best back now are they? Check it here As a team we need to get better in the red zone. And, now that it appears we are finally getting it right, who got the first TD last week? Willis. Again, go to this League Leaders and read. It says league leaders not "number of carries" - so that's why I am saying Willis is better. It also does not say anything about yds/per carry - because it's a sketchy stat at best due to all of the things other posters and myself have said already and can easily be skewed by things that have nothing to do with the running back in question. Put it this way - if I had told you that WM would be LEADING THE LEAGUE IN RUSHING right now - and would be playing better than Rudi Johnson, Larry Johnson, Sean Alexander and Ronnie Brown, etc. at the beginning of the season, how long would it have taken you and just about the rest of this board to flame me? That is the case - Read it and weep since Maroney isn't even in the top ten Let me help you out - Maroney is splitting time with Corey Dillon(I have been waiting for you to say this for three posts now). So you could say that he is doing more with less opportunities. However, there are no guarantees on that. How do we know he could handle the load himself? He comes in fresh a hell of a lot more than Willis does. How do we know they wouldn't use Kevin Faulk in place of Dillion? We don't, so don't bother. Bottom Line - check out youtube and look for the plays where Ashton Youbouty is literally owing Maroney and tell me that he could do the same to Willis. I would laugh hard and long if Youboty got in against the Pats just so he could blast Maroney again -
Yeah no way we get credit for beating them in such an obvious "trap" game. I don't see us getting miuch of any attention unless we win out through the bye. If we lose out we'll get to hear plenty of I told you so however.

Um, I already have. Reading comprehension is important. Willis is playing against better run defenses, and still getting more yards. Your logic is not superior, it's silly. The last time I checked you win based on how far you get the ball down the field not yds/per carry. Wills is leading the league in that category. I'm glad I have your permission to do what I like. Once again I am awestruck by your "superior" logic. Rather than speaking directly to my point you say...what exactly? Oh so now, (again with your superior logic) the Bengals, Broncos, and Bills offenses are worse than the Pats, Dolphins, and Vikes? Hint: thinking before posting is helpful. At best they are even. How about this: let's break down the teams we've played and the other offenses they have faced? Minus the Jets(and again same for Willis), the Pats have faced good/great running teams. Miami faced us and Pittsburgh, so half and half, and, the Vikes have faced flat out great running teams. Our opponents high rush defense rankings are based on their excellent play, not on a stats fluke. Sorry, your point is refuted - not that you had one - but what the hell? As for how Willis is doing better - let's try this again - HE LEADS THE LEAGUE IN RUSHING. How did I get that idea? I read the stats at NFL.com - try it sometime. Well, since the best running back in the league is primarily determined by rushing yards gained(receiving to a lesser extent) and has been since forever, I don't know where you are going with that. Your "superior" logic = flawed, again, what a surprise. In fact, it's clear to me now that you really have not thought out much of anything you have said so far. And, when challenged, rather than producing useful information, you will personally attack me in 5...4...3...2... nothing you have said so far is correct other than the yards/per stat. This reminds me of the 'tards who attached themselves to the Kelly Holcomb completion percentage stat - keep clinging for dear life to that one little strand - it's all you have. And, of course, completely ignore anything reasonable that contradicts you. This is boring and I'm moving on unless you can say anything at all that backs you up - wait - I know - yards/per carry. Try that one again. -

Allright, let's look at who they've run AGAINST... ..using your non-separation of stats logic. (Both played the Jets so I call that a wash.) So far, we played: Pats D ranked 13th in total rushing yards per game allowed(yes I accounted for the bye week), and allowed 3.7 yds a carry Miami D 14th, 3.0 Vikes D 11th, 3.4 Pats played: Bills D 17th, 4.1 Denver D 18th, 3.9 Cincy D 26th, 4.6 So, while LEADING THE LEAGUE IN RUSHING, Willis has gone against better run stopping teams both in terms of yards allowed and yards per carry than Maroney - ALL 4 GAMES(so don't say that the bad d numbers are BECAUSE of Maroney since they are due to others as well - and I would simply make the same argument for Willis). By your own logic - you are clearly wrong. Willis is doing better against tougher teams. QED he is better than Maroney - it's not even close. Go here if you still want to try to massage the numbers -

Bump The guy is incapable of making a plan that fits his players. Sayin' it since the Bucs game last year. Oh yeah and just for fun I included some links: SI: Miami is going to the Superbowl after beating Pitts. and Indy on the road. SI: Miami's "Team of Stars" and Mularkey Did "Exotic" Things in Pittsburgh I had no idea that exotic was a synonym for silly - my mistake. ESPN: This has to be my favorite: #9 Miami Power Ranking - #30 Bills Power Ranking But, ESPN got something right for once - Willis is as good as he says he is. (Leading the league in rushing after 4 games - sounds like best in the league to me) The best example of ESPN's NY/Boston bias is talking about Maroney when Willis is clearly doing better, and is featured, and put out 78 tough yds on an all-pro laden D line; with our newly formed o line. And, just in case any of the consistently retarded here are wondering, I'm saving links to your posts as well. Expect to see them soon - I'm just waiting... -
Good point. The 60+ fans here in Philly agree. That's all I heard Sunday: "Willis - hit the hole! No fancy stuff!" etc. Also, he needs to stop hanging around on the ground after a running play - he is scaring the @!#$ out of us. then (Knocking on wood as I write) But, since he is leading the league in rushing , I'm glad that we are complaining about relative nit picks as opposed to the "lack of heart", "not wanting to be in Buffalo", blah blah blah, that so many here were trying to sell us for the last 5 months.

Anyone noticing how many bad passes
OCinBuffalo replied to Kelly the Dog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's always amazing how many 'tards you hook with these threads. It's as if sarcasm is a foreign concept. Kinda like explaining to Mularkey about using a power running game, or his "savior" QB, on 2 point conversions - and him sitting there with that stupid, mouth-hanging-open blank stare. Anyway, I have to laugh. Good job, you've done it again. What are you; around 10-10 on these? Let's see how many people respond to this even as though it's serious even after my post. -
I think somebody needs to tell Tony Kornheiser
OCinBuffalo replied to zevo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Right on, and I love it when he simply ignores Theisman's feeble attempts at busting his balls. I mean, telling a guy he sucks at golf? Kornheiser's not a pro golfer, he's a color analyst, and golf is gay(imho) anyway. Joe can't find anything else to mess with him about. I wish McGuire had a similar "ignore" button last year instead of playing into that inane babble. -
...one of the best performances of the weekend. (yes on NFL network )Not to start another JP thread, or hating the national media thread, for that matter, but it's nice to hear a relatively objective guy give one of our guys some credit for once. I think JP's progress so far has been beyond anyone's expectations. Not perfect: but those of us who were around when Kelly was getting going, remember many less than perfect games. Unless JP has a major meltdown, I think it's time for some of us to cut out the: "JP's not an NFL QB"/"cutler + lineheart+quinn"/"JP's stats aren't good" nonsense, admit they were wrong, and move on. I'd much rather hear people's opinion about what to do re offensive line, or how that Minnesota guy got so open - only to make a spectacular drop . Those subjects are both relevant and interesting, unlike the myriad of "hate JP" posts. It's boring people - and worse - you're obviously wrong. Enough already. GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kudos for admitting a mistake but, let me take it a step further. After all the crap ESPN has tossed at this team for 4 months, now you are gonna let them run for cover? Worse, the cover they are running for is: "Donohoe good after all"? At what point are they gonna give Marv his props? Prolly never as long as we keep allowing them to change "JP sucks and Marv is old" into "Good thing Donohoe drafted JP and QED, Marv is living off TD's "good" drafts". Please, could the Kool-Aid you are drinking get any more ridiculous? I, nor anyone else, should have to explain this one to you. It is damage control plain and simple. BTW, the CNN/SI super bowl bound Dolphins are 1-3 - and they just lost to the TEXANS. What else is there to say about the "experts" and their Donohoe slurping?
-
That would make BillinNYC happy - and me too for that matter, but is that gonna happen? I dunno.

Hey I resemble that remark. If your company is doing what you say then shame on them. We are what we are, it's the same as guns. You know what a gun can do the same as you know what a consultant can do. Therefore there can be just as many bad uses for both as good ones. Using a "real" consultant in a staff augmentation role is just as bad as you say it is. That's what they have companies like Ajilon, Manpower, CTG, or Jim's Toolbox MCSEs for Hire for.

Yeah after further review I see what you are saying, I meant to show how good the guy is at being an NFL person, in general, in his play, press interactions, team building, etc. - it didn't come out right.

Gruden attempts to improve his offense
OCinBuffalo replied to Chilly's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't believe that you are honestly that retarded. How someone was raised and their current thinking, in your world, can't be two different things? Jesus, I feel sorry for your kids. Jesus prolly doesn't understand, either, since that was his deal as well. Anyway, the truth is, unlike you, I allow reason and good judgement to guide my decisions, not lock-step ideology. My family also raised me to think for myself. I have the ability to listen to what people say objectively - I know you have no idea what I am talking about but I thought I'd give it a try. This is why I currently like a lot of what the libertarians are saying. And, as per normal, you still haven't offered anything in terms of solutions - what a surprise! Rather than address my points, you try, feebly, to attack me. Well, based on what happened this week you aren't gonna be very happy again come November. And, again, rather than doing some desperately needed self introspection and some thinking about just how good your ideas are, or if you even have any, you will busy yourself with name calling, saying that this country is stupid, and of course, if only your team of super smart intellectuals were allowed to run things, all would be solved. The problem is: that was already tried. Do some reading about McNamara, the Whiz Kids, and the Vietnam war. Btw, don't forget that they were all appointed by Democrats. -
Yeah, I thought that if you don't hear a corner's name announced all day that's pretty much a perfect game???

Gruden attempts to improve his offense
OCinBuffalo replied to Chilly's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For the record I am fiercely independent and I am tired of being told what to think by intellectual midgets. While it's clear to me that many mistakes have been made, even to the point of clear incompetence, I have no interest in people whose only contribution is to tell me things I already know, without adding any value to the conversation whatsoever. I am in the solutions business. We have a term for our clients' people who can't move on from defining the problem(nice way of saying bitching) to actually solving it: "fired". -
Pyrite - it seems your favorite term to respond to anything beyond basic, right in front of your face stuff is "dimestore psychology" - what happened? Did some shrink piss you off? Let's be clear - I don't care - I'm just wondering. I am merely pointing out that the guy is polished and seems unlike most of the "I'm great. Throw me the ball and pay me - and oh yeah, buy my new rap album" guys that are really beginnig to bore us all. I see a pattern of behavior that lends itself to something, I believe, unexpected but huge for TV - that's it. Kelly - hey I'm not saying disingenuious and TV in the same sentence. If anything, he's putting things out that are so painfully obvious that there is no way they could be fake. I guess I am admiring a guy that for once, instead of setting the lowest possible expectations(see rap album) for himself, appears to be doing just the opposite. I'm not saying he will run for president - but is an Ozzie Newsome-like job out of the question? I hope he sticks around throughout the season and helps out - that would be huge.
-
After reading all the posts, BB.com videos, and other assorted details on this guy from training camp on; I've drawn the following conclusions: 1. TV couldn't care less about playing this year. He seems to be content with his career, and, along with his role in the NFLPA, appears to be consistently presenting an image as though he has an alterior motive - I can't place it. Maybe he wants to coach, be a gm, something. The videos on BB.com are very consistent. It's clear that every time he has had on oppportunity to present the image of having players, coaches, fans, etc. look to him for answers, he is right there to give the people what they want. To be clear - I'm not doubting his sincerity, I am merely pointing out his consistency. 2. In this world of me-first secondary and wide recievers TV is a standout guy in terms of his willingness to "assist" the team. More specifically than #1, I really got a kick out of TV practicing with Nate Clements in the pre season videos, and even more so when Nate was right there lapping up everything TV said, on camera. I got a funny feeling that this seems a little too "right". Again, not doubting his commitment but this seems like a handy opportunity to gain PR points. 3. The way that Marv handled this, giving TV his salary for the year, while at the same time giving TV a chance to get in front of the media and say things like: "The NFL has been good to me and I have a responsibility to give back" and "It's not a time for me to be selfish" seem a little too convienent for me. I mean, if you were going to build a resume for an "after playing" career in the NFL this is exactly on target. Plus - you get all your money for the year, and you get to hang around and build the resume even more. I bet every time KO or Donte do something good, we are gonna hear Troy Vincent's name. Ok, I don't have anything direct to point to in terms of a cause and effect, yet. However, the kicker for me was when TV said on video that "I will be hanging around to make sure the #20 and #30 are prepared"(not exact but close enough). It just seems that TV is a very smart dude who has seen the end of his career coming and has done everything exactly right to tansition into something else. Seems a lot like the same reason Tiki Barber does the early morning show on Fox News. I hope that this all turns into a coaching job for Troy as Defensive Quality control or something. We should be so lucky. In fact that would be the schitt. But, I'm thinkin he has his sights set a little higher. Once more, I am not saying that the guy is playin us, simply that he is using his current position effectively to gain a new position, or, there is just a hell of a lot of coincidence here. Insightful or crap? You decide

Gruden attempts to improve his offense
OCinBuffalo replied to Chilly's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So are the Democrats in the last two Presidental Elections. Oh I know, we're all idiots for wanting a guy with an actual set of balls running things as opposed to a guy who can't figure out what he voted for when. That would work out great: "I actually ordered them to attack; before I ordered them to stand down." Good plan. Oh yeah, I forgot - the dems don't have a plan, at all, about anything. Their only plan is to do what you are doing - cheap shots and sniping - great job, that's really gonna get me to vote Dem this year. I like Biden in 2008 so far, but not if all I'm gonna hear is more of the same nonsense like you posted. Tell me what you plan to improve and how and stop boring us with the same old crap, or, stop whining and go sit down little boy. If you're good, maybe mommie Hillary will get you some more entitlement cookies. -
I will now take a stance and thereby open myself for criticism. Bills 31 Jets 17 I think this will be a tough first half for us. Halftime Score 14-10 Buffalo. Willis scores and I really want to see a TD by Royal - but prolly another TD to Reed. The Jets will get 7 on a Losman mistake - yes, you heard it here first. (and I am sure that we will hear all kinds of crap from the usual suspects - and more nonsense statistical analysis that is fundamentally flawed) But JP, and therefore we, will overcome. I think that the coaching staff will make the necessary adjustments at halftime, plus, after running Willis for 60+ in the first half, they will overcommit to the run - allowing Lee and Peerless(Josh and Roscoe?) to run wild. JPL gets it going in the second half, throws a TD and runs for another. Jets get a td in garbage time while we are keeping them inbounds and dragging the clock - just like last week. Even though JP scores two TDs in the air and one on the ground all we will hear from our trolls and/or tools, and the national media, will be about the mistakes he made. How's that for a specific stance? Of all I have said, I am only gonna guarantee that last sentence.
-
The thing is - if you watch the replay - there were two of our guys standing right there. Even if they hadn't blown the whistle based on what I saw there was no way the Dolphins would have recovered the ball. In fact, you can see our guy going for the ball uncontested but as soon as they blow the whistle he stops. That's my only complaint. With the new rules about fumbles, we have almost have to play after the whistle. He should have recovered the ball anyway. Also, IMO, the new fumble rules are gonna get a lot of people hurt this year. In any event it's not like the Dolphins lost the game on that call - see 7 sacks, JP/Willis, Moorman, and Crowell's pick (I felt bad for Denney - he was standing right there to get the pick and Crowell jumped in front )
