  1. This reminds me of that bar joke(tasteless to be sure) line from about 6? years ago that started out with: Would you suck my.... for a dollar? How about for $10,000? Sooner or later everyone has a price that they agree to, and of course the obligatory response is: You Whore! I agree that $200,000 is a lot of money - but for me - a Bills Superbowl is beyond any amount of money anyone could pay me.
  2. Hmm - would you be happier if it was another Lynch/Willis/Okoye thread? As if those horses haven't been beaten down to atomic level. I really like this guy so I'm glad that we are talking about him.
  3. No need to apologize to me! I'm just making an observation. It seems like there are lots of unknowns right now, and, since the draft is still over a month away, we seem to be hearing the same thing over and over again, cause there ain't nothing new to talk about. The thing is - it seems to me that there are never any threads on the first page(which is all anyone checks) about the topic you want to talk about - so you post it - only to be told "we already talked about that" Which, in and of itself, is funny because God forbid you talk football on TSW by posting what you want to talk about today. And, who the hell wants to read through five pages of marginal posts with some good ones sprinkled in, from two weeks ago? Things change. So that's the other side of the story. I dunno - I think this will all get worse before it gets better. Draft day cannot come fast enough for this board.
  4. It seems like this goes in cycles - I guess we're back to Leonard now. If I estimate it properly next Wednesday will start the next Irons/Hunt cycle - provided we get off of the "Peterson will be there at #12" cycle today. What's even more funny, and respectable in terms of persistence, is the "Marshawn Lynch lobby". These guys are the most organized and the best at consistently getting the message out. :worthy: These guys have done a great job getting a Lynch post out every 2 days - regardless of what cycle we are in.
  5. Ok cool guy, what are we supposed to be doing here other than talking football? You let me know when and how I'm supposed post/reply from now on. IF crayonz is such an idiot(or he does this to get a rise out of people), what's your plan to deal with it? In the first case, I think it makes sense to simply supply the facts and let him learn. If he is doing this to start trouble, so what? I'm sure other posters don't know how the schedule works and this helps them. In all cases, we are here to talk about this stuff anyway. What difference does the context in which we do it make?
  6. Ok, I can play too! I predict that we will take a top 5 skill player or trade down, and that the Sun will rise tomorrow! If the sun rises tomorrow, I'm well on my way to being right!
  7. I'm just trying to help him out -> but hey, you never know, especially on this board, right?
  8. Dude did you read my new post? I modified it because I forgot that we also play an AFC Division as well. Crayonz - I wouldn't be talking about how smart people were if I were you. Do want to see the Eagles schedule? Fine here it is: Eagles Schedule Notice that they just happen to play Miami, Jets, Pats, and us -> another amazing coincidence, and they happen to be playing all the teams in the NFC North, another amazing coincidence. The only teams that aren't predetermined are Seattle and New Orleans. Also, what are u talking about re: us knowing and other teams having to guess? EVERYBODY and EVERY team has the same set of rules. The Pats have to play: the rest of our division twice, the NFC EAST, and the AFC North, just like us. So that means they only have 2 games that are subject to change, JUST LIKE US. WE ARE IN THE AFC which means we play AFC teams with those two remaining games. Which means there is no way in hell we are playing the Cardinals this year - unless we meet them in the Super Bowl.
  9. Dude - we are playing the NFC EAST this year - just like we play an NFC division(4 games) EVERY year. That is not speculation. That is fact. Look it up - who did we play last year? Minnesota, Chicago, Detroit, Green Bay. Do you think it's merely an amazing coincidence that they all happen to be in the NFC North? Also, we play ANOTHER DIVISION in the AFC. Look at last year's schedule - Indy, Houston, Tennesse, Jacksonville - again, is that an amazing coincidence, or is it the teams from the AFC SOUTH? This year we are playing the AFC North. We also have to play the AFC teams we haven't played in a while to satisfy the 7 years thing - and that is the only thing effected by last years results. So, in reality, there are only 2 games on our schedule that aren't set in STONE each year. And the first consideration is who we have played at home and away in recent years, the second is results of last season.
  10. I'm not a fan of this at all. We need to use our 12 on a top 5 skill player or trade down. We have enough O lineman, although I can see them taking one with the #6 or one of the sevens.
  11. Nope - we know who we play and we know if its home or away, we don't know when we play them. The only thing that might change is if there's a conflict, natural disaster, or if they adjust the games based on last year = doubtful. The scheduling rules are fairly complicated, but is essence we have to play every team, home and away, in a 6 or 7 year period. Edit: um yeah click on the link provided nicely by R.Rich.
  12. Yep. Besides, all of the stock of these veteran RBs goes down as time goes on. We shouldn't be investing in a market when it's way overvalued. Better to sit tight and wait to see what's available - right through the first couple rounds of cuts in pre-season. Most of these guys will still be available later on, might as well wait until they are on the bubble of having a job, and then sign em, vs. overpaying now.
  13. Cowboys would be great - I'd prefer to see the Ravens later in the season when(hopefully) our O line has a few games under their belt as a unit.
  14. My favorite scenario so far involves trading down with Cincy and picking up Paul Poz = LB Getting Brian Leonard with a #2 or #3 = RB Taking the RB from Arizona(Gates?) with one of the threes = RB Drafting Solail(sp?) at #4 = DT Using what we got left(and whatever we got from the Cincy Trade) to get another LB, DBs, and OLs - in that order.
  15. Can someone explain to me why it makes sense to beat a dead horse - perhaps it will come back to life? Perhaps it will come back to life if we pay it $80 million dollars over 8 years. Perhaps it will come back to life if we pay it $80 million dollars over 8 years when it wasn't even the top five horse at it's position. Or perhaps some just like beating the horse? My advice: put the stick down.
  16. Before you start throwing the idiot word around I suggest you read my posts. I've been clear in stating that IT'S NOT ABOUT AN INDIVIDUAL CONTRIBUTION:blink: So stop disclaiming for things I'm not saying and stop projecting idiotic interpretations that aren't there. It's very tedious for me that the level of reading comprehension around here would get most people in trouble - in 5th grade. Whether you have heard anything before doesn't matter - I am telling you now - Marv saw his teamwork with Polian work well, and that is the model he is using now with DJ. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH INDIVIDUAL EFFORTS. You seem to be the one hanging on "whose" draft it is - which is irrelevant for reasons I have already stated. As far as Butler goes, I have already addressed that.
  17. I was thinking about this yesterday. The Milwaukee thing is obvious, take that a step further and you have: BEEEER! It works two ways, when Kilwaukee does something good, we can all yell Beer! and it works as a giant "SOCIAL!"(basically a toast) as well. Imagine the entire stadium doing a collective social. I think it would be great - if nothing else than to make Phil Simms have to explain what we were doing. That in and of itself would be good for a laugh.
  18. Under the "If you can't say anything nice..." rule, here is my reply to that:
  19. They are Marv/Polian's period. They worked as a team - I thought this was common knowledge based on the thousands of press accounts demonstrating that fact show - but apparently it's not. My point is that Marv was around for the Bennet trade, in fact he has stated publicly that he was initially against it and had to be brought around by Polian. And, the point is he has seen that tactic work right in front of him - so it can't be counted out. Wrt, today I think that you are now seeing the very same team approach with Marv/DJ. And, I think Butler's involvement is massively overstated by some here because it makes them "right" about things they said 6-10 years ago(long story). I don't think Butler had no involvement, I do think that it was run as a team that included all of them. Therefore, I don't think it's inconsistent to expect Marv to set the same tone today.
  20. Wow that would really mess up all the experts and make this even more interesting. If the Lions don't trade down, and take Joe Thomas, then I would see a feeding frenzy of teams trying to trade up. Assuming one or the other QB is gone, that still leaves 4 of the 5 top skill players on the board = Nuts. In that case, I can see where AP could slip through the cracks to us no problem. Hell, in that case just about anything could happen = lots of emotion and not much thought. Hopefully Marv is prepared for this and can take advantage of this.
  21. I didn't read the book but it seems some here have forgotten exactly how the team of the 90's was built: in the 80's. We went to the AFC championship game in 88! How did we get there? We had the best D in the league. That's right I said DEFENSE, not Super Offense. Now a question: How was that D built? Answer: almost 100% through the draft(Fred Smerlas is the only starter pre-Marv that stayed on - that I can think of). The Super Offense wasn't begun in earnest until we drafted(and got immensely lucky, IMO) Thurman Thomas in round 2(we didn't have a #1 - see below), #40 over all in 1988, and Don Beebe in round 3(didn't have a round 1 or 2 - see below), 82nd overall in 1989. Here's one more thing to consider: In 1987, we dropped 2 #1 draft picks(1998, 1989) a 2nd(1989) and our starting RB who had run for 1,300 yards+ the last two years, just to get Cornelius Bennet(I had to look that up - and it's been so long, I forgot how much we actually gave up - it still shocks me) when Marv was the coach. Therefore we know that Marv has seen that approach work, and it can't be counted out. So, I don't think it's a surprise that Marv drafted all D last year, and I don't think it will be a surprise when he does it again. And, if Marv is high on a guy I can see him doing whatever is necessary to get him. I also think that we won't see serious consideration paid to the O until next year: which would be in the same pattern of drafting as last time = we wait and draft a top RB in 2008, after two years of drafting D high.
  22. I wonder if he's gonna take his TEs out for Cheeseburger Night? What a great Teambuilding activity - - man that guy was a nightmare. No more so than the guy that hired him though.
  23. Yep, and with Millen's draft record, the Lions almost have to trade down-> following the "more chances I get = less likely I !@#$ it up" theory. I'm not as concerned about one team trading down as I am if more do = our chances of trading down will be gone because there won't be anybody left to trade down with. And, with all the trading up(say 3-4 trades), NO ONE will be drafting for need = the top, real-deal, playmakers will be picked over by the time it gets to us = we will be picking some dopey guard at #1(or something equally annoying like another safety or a WR).
