Wikipedia and Global Warming
OCinBuffalo replied to \GoBillsInDallas/'s topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
This is lame at best and you know it, or at least I hope so. I'd like to see wiki succeed as well, but if you are serious about that, then you should be pissed about this, rather than defending it. It's the worst sort of Wikki rule manipulation for biased purposes(or couldn't you tell in her comments like this one in parenthesis?) and represents the very reason Wikki will fail if it (and consequentially, she) is not removed. I find it hysterical that she says that Peiser is not a "reliable source" for determining what Peiser said then and now. Fine, from now on, I am not going to believe what Bluefire said, or that Bluefire said it, unless there is a link in the Buffalo News, or on a blog(of all things, hahahahahaha!) at the University of Colorado. Hysterical. I haven't encountered this level of buffoonery in a long time. Thanks for the laugh. Please tell me you see what's happening here. But, I suppose it would make me laugh even harder if you don't. -
Draft and Johnson
OCinBuffalo replied to Wilson from Gamehendge's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Another fine example of Dan Snyder's "aggressive"(read: stupid) plan that will continue to run that team into the ground. They picked 1, that's right 1, player in last years' draft due to this kind of stupidity. Perhaps Cincy took mercy on them. Snyder is lucky that the Bengals didn't take this offer, because that team is going to need every single one of it's #1 picks for the next 4 years. Whenever I hear people B word about the Bills FO, I think of the Redskins and laugh. If these Bills fans only knew how bad things can really be. Donahoe aside, there's nothing that he ever did that even compares to the recent Redskins blunders, especially on chucking away draft picks and overpaying players that can't even make some other teams' rosters. The name Archuleta comes to mind.... But it's far more likely that the Cincy GM is sending a message to the rest of the team that a contract is a contract. Otherwise, given the direction that team seems to be heading, all the rats would try to get off the ship. -
Whats the worst thing that the Bills could do
OCinBuffalo replied to DrDawkinstein's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In all cases, as a guy who was sitting in the end zone at the Ralph watching the Pats* run crossing route after crossing route against us, and as soon as we had the right d package in there to stop that, they ran fly/post/out routes against us, I would say that we first and foremost needed a better pass rush going into the off-season. But it sure as hell doesn't begin or end there. After all, a real crossing pattern, especially one that starts on the left side WR spot and ends with the guy catching the ball on the right side slot position, obviously takes time to develop. Also, we can't have our guys getting caught in "no man's land" between the line of scrimmage(and 5 yards back) and 10+ yards beyond the LOS, as we were that entire home game against the Pats*. So what's left? Either we get a real pass rush that was similar to the Giants' and not let them wait around for those crossing routes to develop, or, we go get guys who can cover premier WRs all over the field. Hopefully, if we have any intention of not getting crushed at home again, we do both, because a great pass rush only gets you so far when you have a system QB like Brady throwing 7 yard outs to RBs and TEs. Therefore, we need to have good CBs covering/jumping/bumping those routes off, or this whole "pass rush" concept is a huge wast of our time. It's nice to think that D line can save everything, but that is a pipe dream. Just ask the vaunted Pats* D line who contributed exactly 0 in stopping Manning on the last drive of the SB. And seriously, what could they really have done differently? Either we have the guys that can stay with the Pat's Wrs, Cover 2 or any other formation, during the entire 60 minutes, or we don't, and D lineman , or O line, will not change that. -
mere discussion of trade with eagles
OCinBuffalo replied to BeastMode54's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybe because we have to cover Randy Moss and Wes Welker if we have any intention of winning the division? Maybe because we have never seen a lineman cover either guy? And maybe because we are supposed to be trying to win the division, not simply build depth for later? -
Whats the worst thing that the Bills could do
OCinBuffalo replied to DrDawkinstein's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes, being serious, it wouldn't be that bad, and would mean extra help for our DEs along the lines of the Cover2 point because it gives them more confidence to pin their ears back and not worry as much about what's going on around them regarding the run. However, being silly, drafting a CB will make for a long, long, and very annoying next 4 months due to all the bitching and the requisite 200 threads from the "Draft line, me happy" crowd here. It's as if there are no CBs or WRs in the HOF or something with these guys. Whatever they do, all I can say is: look at the last 2 drafts. Past performance is usually a pretty good guarantee of future performance, and only an idiot would look at the last two drafts and not put each in the top 10 each year, based on what we have seen so far, and they only seem to get better as time goes along (um, Whitner, McCargo). Finally, IIRC, we have a WR named Randy Moss in this division, and I suppose using our #1 pick to address that problem certainly wouldn't be the worst use of that resource. I haven't seen any lineman be able to cover him effectively yet, and, if we go this whole draft(or offseason) without addressing that problem, that to me is the worst thing that can happen. -

It really makes no difference at all, some of us here just like to have fun with the ESPN/SI/NFL Net guys. I guess a better question is why do you care if we bash on them? especially when they are blatantly wrong? Of course they have to have opinions, it's just nice when they base those opinions on facts. (See Marshall Faulk saying that we need to get a left tackle this year.) That's not the point, and of course that would be boring. The point is that some of us have been tracking and quantifying what they say and who they consistently pump up and there is hardly any doubt that the data reflects a clear bias towards the top 10-15 media market teams the last 5 years. It's almost as if a policy has been created by marketing people at these media outlets. 1. How else do you explain the predictions that Miami would go to or win the SB two years ago, and, after getting burned that year that they would again pick Miami be 2nd in the division last year? How much do you want to bet that somebody picks them to do better than us this year? 2. Conversely, why is it that Jacksonville and Seattle are consistently in the playoffs but somehow are a "surprise" every year for the last 4? 3. We always hear that the Cards, 49ers, Texans, Redskins, Bucs and Falcons(except last year for obvious reasons) are "going to be good", "building something special" and "are on pace to challenge for the division", but they never do anything but show the rest of the league how not to run a football team and/or how not to play/win games. 4. The Jets still have a sucky QB and only a few good players here and there but how much do you want to bet that they are rated higher than us this year? How much do you want to bet that if they draft Gholston that suddenly they will be a "top ten defense". Somehow, without a running game, with a noodle-arm QB, and mediocre receivers, we are going to get non-stop coverage of them on ESPN, but yeah, we're supposed to believe that there is no downstate bias? I have a simple explanation for all of this BS: telling a lot of people what they want to hear is a great way to make money. Until ESPN, SI, and the rest actually start analyzing games, players, coaches, drawing reasonable conclusions from this analysis (um, watching the games might be a good start, followed closely by checking on the stats and who made the Pro-Bowl-->y'know the thing that Jaworski does = and people wonder why he is so "knowledgeable" and well liked) , and tell the marketing people to stuff it, then we will continue to see this nonsense, and we will continue to make fun of them for it. Edit: In the interest of fairness, Merrill Hodge did say that "the Bills could be building something special with all these good young players..." on the "On the Clock" Video on ESPN.com and I almost spit out my soup when I saw that.

That's cool, but Clayton has been giving us more and more credit the last 2 years. Now if it was Salisbury giving us some credit instead of constantly ball-washing the Pats*....oh wait...HAHA! Sorry Sean, you don't work there anymore. We'll see if Mort keeps bashing us next Saturday. I don't know how long the Donahoe thing can go on until he starts to look very ridiculous. Hopefully Berman will slap him back in line like he did last year.

WE SUPPORT THE TROOPS, NOT THE WAR! "But, hey troops if you don't mind, we aren't going to feed you for a week and you will have to conserve your ammo because we have a jackass agenda to prove to America that we can stop war spending, and we will get results. We will get the American people a windfall of 6 whole dollars!" Ignignokt: Trust us, it all makes sense because we have thought of it, and since we are Moon people, and you should thank us because that makes us smarter than your pitiful civilization can even comprehend. Err: Comprehend this, B word! Ignignokt: Yes, Err, they don't understand the value of $6 because they are not from the Moon. Err: $6 makes you my B word! Ignignokt: Yes, Err, let us take our $6 to the Uni-mart and drown ourselves in luxurious Uni-Dogs Err: You better get us there Ignignokt: Yes, use your primitive vehicle to deliver us to the Uni-Mart, we command it -
McCain Calls For A Gas Tax 'Holiday'

Well, starting out with the fact that it only takes about 7 hours to make that drive(are you driving like a granny?), having done it myself too many times to count, I'd say there isn't much debate. I used to try to fly whenever possible(and that doesn't take 9 hours door to door unless you are walking to the airport - more like 4), but the driving it meant I could stop at my parents house. So yeah, other than the goofy math you have here, it usually made sense for me to drive whenever I had an unplanned need to get to Buffalo from Philly $ wise. If only JetBlue would run flights direct...then you might only be looking at $150-200. Oh well. -
Brandon: Losman will be part of team in 2008
OCinBuffalo replied to In-A-Gadda-Levitre's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Once again, I agree with Brandon's reasoning on it's face: why make next year's problem this year's problem? As far as "what happens if(insert trade rumor here)": well, I suppose any offer will be listened to for any player, any time, not just offers for JP. Listening costs nothing, provided that it's kept confidential. There have been a zillion trade rumors for this team since around 85, when we actually started getting players other teams might actually want. The media loves to speculate because it sells their product. If anything is going to happen regarding JP, then I would bet that it happens on draft day. -
So it suffices to say that the NFL has found a way to unify Bills fans both Canadian and American, and pretty much every other Canadian who bought a ticket for the game = we all agree that picking this game was a bad idea. A perfect storm of angst. Great job! On the flip side, its nice to agree with Canadians on something for a change.

Justifying drafting James Hardy
OCinBuffalo replied to lets_go_bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My theory on reading the tea leaves: Premise 1: Since Levy took over and even before that, the Bills have always played games with the media before the draft. There are a ton of examples. Specifically this year from Mayock's latest Mock: "Scenario 1: Wide receiver is the top need and the word on the street is the Bills will reach for Thomas if they can't make a deal to trade back a few spots." So, obviously they are doing it again. Same thing as last year and the year before. In fact, I would almost say that Thomas is not going to happen based on this, almost. Premise 2: Dick Jauron specifically said that they were looking for a tall WR with good hands to help in the red zone, etc. or something to that effect. Premise 3: The Bills have said nothing about Hardy, nor have they said much about Albert(G from Virginia or the DE Harvey, another guy people want here). The same as they said little or nothing about Whitner or Lynch. They gave hints about Poz, but I believe that was to throw people off their desire to draft Lynch. Marv even went so far as to talk up Fred Jackson = "Fred Jackson has really impressed the coaching staff". Premise 4: We have an extra 4th round pick Conclusions: Due to 1, it's likely the Bills are going to stay where they are. In fact, I believe they will take Albert G from Virginia or the DE people like at #11. Anything but WR at #11. Due to 2-4, it's likely the Bills are going to use their extra 4th and their second to move up to Miami's pick at 32, or something similar, and take Hardy. I think we will hear something about a WR, but not Hardy, pretty soon in an effort to distract from the guy they are looking at for #11, if we didn't hear it already per Mayock. The fact is that all of this WR talk is probably a cloak for another position/guy that they really want. I would not be surprised at all if Hardy is at the top of their list for their 2nd round pick, and they might even risk staying put and hoping he falls to them. But, after all, it's just a theory. -

OCinBuffalo replied to RayFinkle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ask the Pats* fans that were actually fans from the mid-80 to the late 90s. There was no doubt that we, and pretty much the rest of the division, were the hammer and they weren't even a nail, more like a string bean. They act like this 7 year period has been going on since 1970. The Dolphins, on the other hand, have never sucked for such an extended period. In a very short time, it will us v. them for the division all over again, as it has been and should be. I have said it for 2 years now, and I was right = the Pats did everything they could to make LAST YEAR their final run, and they only came up short by one game. Close, but no cigar. I have also said that they are obviously on the decline, and they agree with me, hence their complete break last year from the strategy they had used successfully for years before that = go out and overpay for FAs rather than drafting and teaching. Yeah, Roosevelt Colvin is a great example of the Pats future. That was supposed to be the counter to the "Pats LBs are old argument". HAHA! It's just a matter of putting things in perspective and looking at the entire existence of all the teams. Hell I bet the older folks here could tell us all about the rivalry between us and the Jets for the couple of years when Namath was playing. I was old enough to have to deal with Namath announcing Bills games = "Ya see the Jets would be winning the game right now if the Bills hadn't score those 4 TDs in the first quarter". But I bet they would also tell us that even that pales in comparison to the feelings they have for Miami. -
Come on! IF we have to deal with playing one of, if not the, biggest division rival we have in Toronto, we should at the very least not give them comfort and warmth of a nice, 70 degree, candy-ass, environment. I don't see any reason to leave it closed, this is NFL football, and it's not like Canadians aren't used to being cold. I say NO DOME. I don't know how we can possibly make that happen, and I don't know why this is such a big deal for me, but I say we must demand that the roof be open at the Rogers Center for that game.

Offical 2008 Bills Schedule Thread
OCinBuffalo replied to RayFinkle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Haven't seen this posted yet: what about the weather advantage we always get when Miami comes up here? Are they going to close the roof or leave it open? Or am I being silly? I think it's gonna be kinda strange to see the usual Miami game at home in a dome. Edit: I think it would hysterical if they left it closed all week and then opened it right before kickoff. -
Same as before with CBs. Interesting results with that one. Very interested to see what happens with this one.
-
Figured I would try to quantify the opinions around here and see what people think about Corner Back in general. I will do the other positions as well. Same questions same answers, and hopefully we can see what everybody thinks about each position.

Of course you realize that videos like this only serve to make the next 5 months of waiting a giant pain in the a.... Thanks a lot Here's to September and us finally getting off of the playoff schnide. GO BILLS!

You mean like the tiny skill guy we drafted #1, 14th overall last year? Yeah I'd would rather have another guard, on a team that already has 3 good ones, than Mashawn Lynch. How about that tiny skill guy, Peyton Manning, or his brother Eli? Or the list of 100s of solid to HOF skill players drafted in the first round? Yeah, I'm sure their teams wished they had drafted a guard instead. This team shouldn't subscribe to either "skills guys always" or "big guys always" thinking. Ever!. Instead, we need to pick the best player available, based on his grade and our draft position, and what the coaching staff wants to emphasize, that's it. Enough of this dogmatic, "good GM draft big guy first, me like", mentality. It is lame. We're talking about a very involved, very complicated set of problems to solve when we talk about the draft, and simplistic thinking very rarely solves complex problems. In this case, this year, we have needs at CB and WR(I personally would add C). Second priority is TE, the lines, and backup QB, third is the rest. That's what we need to worry about this year. Unless we solve the problems we are facing this year, they will remain as problems next year. You can't fix a whole team with one draft pick. What is hard to understand about that? Case in point, we drafted Whitner because he was a "this year" solution to a "this year" problem. Levy knew darn well that you can't fix an entire offensive line with one draft pick, so he didn't choose the stupid option, as donahoe did, and try. Rather, he fixed a single position with a high choice that he knew would solve the problem, and he was right. Then he did what he did in FA, and that was right. Now, precisely because of the players drafted over the last 2 years, we are talking about fixing 1-3 spots, instead of talking about entire units on O and D needing to be replaced. If that is not obvious progress, I don't know what is. Edit: BTW, the more I read about this guard from Virginia, the more I like. IF he is there and IF he is the best graded player at the time, and IF somebody can make a case to me why we need to do better than Dockery and Butler while at the same time passing up a chance to do better at WR/trade down, then I am all ears. Pass all those ifs and I wouldn't mind seeing him here.

...with regard to the doom and gloom crowd's "the Bills are moving to Toronto" prediction? ...with regard to the Bills getting some predictable and significant revenue so that they can afford to take extra chances on players? ...with regard to the NFL seeing this and doing something positive/negative regarding the Bills? a new franchise in Toronto? I can see a lot of angles here and many make sense, I'd like hear what you see and what you think it means.

Done. The only thing I found, as I suspected, that might even be close to an answer to my question is that you stated that the history of misuse of religion usually is politically motivated. So, I suppose we could say that the best lesson from history is: go after the political premises that spawn the misuse of religion. But that's about it. I still don't see how every time religion is misused somehow there is a political agenda behind it. In fact, there are many cases where politics have had nothing to do with it. So perhaps we can agree that in this case, politics is the driving factor and so we need a political solution, as opposed to a anti-religious one? And, if you don't want to play anymore fine, I guess I'll go back to work.
