Jordan Phillips has been missed

Yep, I thought of Lawson when they failed run containment a few times. -
Since he continues to not be able to stay healthy, is he worth trying to re-sign?

Chargers: Herbert will remain starter, Tyrod to bench
BobbyC81 replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You guys remember Steve DeBerg? He was the starting QB for the Niners in 1978. Then they drafted Joe Montana and he became the starter in 1980, with DeBerg becoming backup. DeBerg was traded to Denver in 1981 and was the starter. Then in 1983 they got Elway. In 1984, DeBerg was traded to Tampa & was the starter. When the USFL folded they got Steve Young who became starter. Then they drafted Testaverde in 1987. In 1998, DeBerg was traded to Kansas City where he started for 4 years. -
Yes, the same for me. His inconsistent accuracy in his first 2 seasons was a big concern. With analysts claiming they don’t remember a QB with accuracy issues improving on that once they get to the NFL, there was doubt he could. We’ve seen too many young QBs recently, like Mayfield and Trubisky, that start off well in their NFL career and then regress for various reasons. You can probably throw guys like Wentz and Goff into that group as they had career years early and have yet to repeat them. Then Allen starts this season with his first 300 yard game and follows it up with a 400+ yard game. Those games, though, were against the Jets and Dolphins, who he has always played well against. To come out VS another 3-0 team whose defense has Arnold and Ramsey and get a 28-3 lead was a big Wow moment for me. The defense let the Rams back into the game but the offense also stopped producing. Then, after falling behind, Allen leads the Bills to a last minute come from behind victory. That was the moment for me. Sure, he had several late comebacks to his credit, but this was the defining one to me, against a solid playoff contender.

Their WR Terry McLaurin had a very good rookie year and the rookie RB Gibson has looked good. The rest though. Logan Thomas is their starting TE. Three of their other WRs are undrafted.

I think at that point they just have to skip the Thursday game for that week. -
Mohamed Sanu getting released by Niners

Didn’t you guys see the receivers Green Bay had out there yesterday? Darius Shepard? Malik Taylor? Both undrafted. They definitely could use some help. -
First Coach Fired This Season and When
BobbyC81 replied to Big Gun's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Mr Defense has the Lions scoring well. 21+ points in every game. The defense is why they’re 1-3. You be the judge. The Jets host Arizona next. If they go 0-5 and aren’t competitive, it would make no sense for the Jets to keep Gase. He’s following the Peter Principle and needs to go back to being a coordinator at best. A long shot at this point is Vic Fangio. Denver is 1-3, the only win last week vs the Jets, and he lost their 1st game vs Tennessee with poor clock management at the end. You don’t lose a game on a last second FG and still have 2 timeouts. They play New England next so a loss there might not do it, but they host Miami in week 6 and Fangio May need to win that one. -
So, who had O’Brien as the first HC firing in the pool?

Yet, Cleveland had over 300 yards rushing. You’d think they would’ve dominated the time of possession and Dallas rarely have the ball. Don’t see that many team rushing totals like that these days. OBJ did score on a 50 yard run to quickly up the total, but I don’t know what drives they had for their other scores. Still Prescott had enough time for 58 pass attempts with only one 40+ yard scoring pass.
-
I don’t believe I’m going much out on a limb here. With Dak Prescott’s 502 yard game vs Cleveland on Sunday, I looked up what the record was. In 1951 Norm Van Brocklin of the Rams threw for 554 yards. With the NFL being such a passing league now, it’s amazing that the record goes back that far. In recent seasons, Matt Schaub of the Texans threw for 527 yards in 2012. Warren Moon also threw for 527 yards in 1990. At this point, it seems to not be if Van Brocklin’s record will be broken but when. Could it be this season?

Same here. With the camera view, it’s hard to see that McKenzie was even back there and the eyes follow Josh going back. Then you see McKenzie flying around the corner and he has the ball.

Josh Allen - week FOUR report card
BobbyC81 replied to rayray808's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
With the Bills long-standing poor record on the West Coast, I had even changed my pick in the pick-em league to the Raiders. This is a signature win. Derek Carr May have played the best game I’ve seen him play and the Bills still won. Looking forward, but not too far, to see how they do vs the Super Bowl teams. -
Josh Allen - week FOUR report card
BobbyC81 replied to rayray808's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, Beasley had a couple, the one by Brown that WAS a touchdown, and a couple by Diggs. 24 for 34 and I remember 3 blatant drops. One by Knox in the red zone and then it was cool that they ran the exact same play right after and he almost scored. Then there were the 2 back-to-back by Beasley and Brown on crossing patterns. Other than that they really helped their QB. -
The defense in the 4th Quarter won the game. They had a 4th down hold turnover and 2 caused/recovered fumbles. It’s not their fault the offense did nothing with the ball afterwards. Also, after the broadcasters were giving kudos to Dabol for staying aggressive, they get that 2nd fumble and then run it 3 straight times but take less than 2 minutes off the clock. Next, Bo-dork-ez punts the ball into the end zone. A win is a win and they’re 4-0 but they don’t make it easy for themselves. Definitely exciting football but I’d like to see a game stay 28-3 in our favor to the end.

Can someone explain why Browns catch wasn’t a TD?
BobbyC81 replied to Southern Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So, they’re saying to complete the catch, he had to be tackled to the ground and at that point the ball wasn’t over the goal line? They are infuriating. The replay system is supposed to get the call right and they frequently do not. They also need to change the rule that a team needs to challenge if the call on the field is not a TD. If it’s a play that might be a score, it should be reviewed the same as if the refs ruled a score on the field. I’ll have to maybe watch the game again but I think the Bills were lucky to avoid unsportsmanlike conduct penalties a few times during skirmishes. There was one where Taiwan Jones definitely threw a punch and a flag was thrown but then they just called a penalty on the Raiders for illegal block. Another time, it looked like Norman thrust his hand into someone’s face mask and I’ve seen that called before. And there was another with Diggs, where it looked like he took a swing and it took a couple teammates to get him out of there. -
The Sporting News looks back at 2018 QB class
BobbyC81 replied to CorkScrewHill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Jets, whether you want to consider them New Jersey or not, represent a “glamour “ city but generally don’t go after the marquee players. I don’t recall the state of their team in past seasons, but I don’t remember them going after Peyton Manning when he was available. Most NFL teams, including them, should consider themselves stupid for not taking a chance on Drew Brees when he was available. They didn’t even go for a Joe Flacco until now when he’s 35. Their other recent QBs have been of the Fitzpatrick, McCown variety. As others have said, even when they draft a Darnold or Mark Sanchez they don’t give him enough talent to be successful. Robbie Anderson isn’t a Pro Bowl player but he was an effective deep weapon for Darnold and they let him leave. They replaced him with Breshad Permian, who cashed in on a few good games in the 2nd half of the 2019 season with Tampa. He’s done little. They also brought in our old friend, Chris Hogan and drafted Denzel Mims. That receiving crew isn’t on the same planet compared to what the Bills have right now. -
I’ve been on the West Coast for 40 years. The Bills are probably about 3-30 in history out here, some of which i attended. I only saw them win once in person, vs the Rams in 2016 out of over a dozen games. Hopefully this squad can get this one.

It’s similar to how it was for Michael Vick. Yes, he had a strong arm but it’s not like he was consistently hitting deep throws. His running ability is what worried defensive coordinators. When he had an injury and lost a step, he was less effective.
-
If they appeal, can they still participate until their appeal is heard?

Another thing I noticed about Mahomes is that he doesn’t panic. He’s a real cool customer. I think Josh can eventually get there, too.
