Most of the nation say we should take a Vernon
BobbyC81 replied to Oneonta Buffalo Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They DID address the O-line in drafting when they selected Mike Williams. And those that now 2nd guess that move are being short-sighted. Williams was high on everyone's board. Nobody could predict he'd be a bust so far. A change of scenery now may see him perform up to expectations. Who knows?? -
the bills are definitely not going anywhere

He also has a friend in Donald Trump. He was on The Apprentice last night. -
Starting to wonder about that move as well.

What if the Bills didnt trade to get JP?
BobbyC81 replied to Blue Chipper's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Isn't it interesting, looking back though, that after Gruden gave up on Johnson in Tampa, that was it for his NFL career. Wasn't he like only 31 or 32?? -
Out here on the West Coast that means all "breakfast games". I'm love'n it!!

Cover 2 smoke screen and the myth of Haloti Ngata

The moving up of Winston Justice by some of the "experts" because of a workout is just typical pre-draft hype. His vertical leap is highlighted which, I admit, does show his athleticim but what good is that stat for an OT?? So, maybe after a TD he can spike the ball over the goal post??!! Rate him on what he did as a player in games on the field!! If he was considered the 12th or so best player before this workout, that's wher ehe shoulsd stay. Remember, pre-draft info is what forced Hall of Fame QB Dan Marino to drop to the last pick of the 1st round. -
Flying tomorrow. Will just be in for a few days. Usually when I come in it snows, except for my last visit in July of 2004. I think it was Christmas 2001 when we landed and there was no snow on the ground. Three days later there was 7 feet and we were lucky to get out! Forecast looks good for this week, though. LOL!!!

Despite what some of you think of Moulds at this point, if KC signed him, he'd be the best wide receiver they had in years.

A little Marv/Ralph bashing by Foxsports.com

Aaaahh! What do they know??!! They probably bashed Green Bay years ago when they gave up a 2nd round pick for Favre!! -
Levy banking Moulds will take a pay cut and stay

Realistically, I wonder what the Bills could expect to get for Moulds in trade?? A second round pick?? -
Again, here are some 1st year stats for QBs who had great careers: Aikman- 9 TDs, 18 INTs, 52.9 Comp % Bradshaw- 6 TDs, 24 INTs, 38.1 Comp % Elway- 7 TDs, 14 INTs, 47.5 Comp % Losman's numbers 8 TDs, 8 INTs, 49.6 Comp % Sure the bottomline is moving the offense and winning games but was he really so bad??

"Every player has strengths. As far as athletically and pulling around, I don't know if I've ever seen a lineman as athletic as he is."[/i] 638446[/snapback] I don't care how he pulls. The Bills need someone to stop the opposing DTs from walking right in up the middle.
-
Fowler?? He should've been an NBA player. His role would've been to be a tough guy like Danny Fortson who made the tough fouls to stop guys from driving to the hoop.
-
And if one of them goes down with a major injury, I'm sure Shane Matthews could be talked into coming back one more time.

I can't believe the Bills couldn't have offered a 4th or 5th round choice. I think Jets got a steal giving up only a 6th round pick. Sure, the Redskins coaches decided to go with Brunell instead but Ramsey's career numbers aren't bad. His QB rating has been in the 70's, similar numbers to average seasons for Bledsoe. Plus, he's only 27. Given a change of scenery, he may perform well.

"When playing the market. a smart general manager avoids the whammies. One way to hit a jackpot is to take spins on players who have been limited to under-the-radar roles with their current teams but could blossom elsewhere." Sounds like the approach Marv and company have taken so far with these 4 free agent signings. Really, when your team was 5-11, spending big bucks on a couple well-known players where you're competing with other teams generally doesn't work. They signed 4 guys at less money who will be hungry for the opportunity and might even surprise.

For whatever it's worth (one person's opinion), the Sporting News did a Free Agent preview in an issue a couple weeks ago. The top 5 free agent DTs they listed at the time were: 1) Bernard 2) Triplett 3) Chris Hovan 4) Grady Jackson 5) Orpheus Roye Hovan resigned with Tampa and Bernard with Seattle. We signed the 2nd guy on their list, leaving Roye and Jackson still available??

Great point, Dean. You can pretty much say that Detroit gave Harrington the tools and enough chances. Sure, Charles Rogers has been injury-prone, etc. but they did draft top receivers and added free agents like Az-Hakim, plus a good RB in K.Jones. He just didn't pan out for them. I don't think JP has had as much of a chance yet. Give him a better O-line, a solid set of 3 receivers and a reliable TE and see what he does. Immediate results are unrealistic expectations, though. He's going to have a new head coach, offensive coordinator and QB coach, plus a new TE and possibly new starting wideout to acclimate to. If he wins the starting job in training camp but then doesn't show muc by th eend of the year, then you could say he MIGHT NOT be the answer.

I was watching NFL Total Access on NFL Network and they were reviewing the DTs for the draft. This was Mike Mayock who was at the combine. Interesting that he referred to Ngata as a Pat Williams/Ted Washington type!! He believes Ngata is versatile to play 3/4 or 4/3 but he commented that depending on who's drafting him and what they want him to do, he may be only a 2-down guy. Then he talked about Bunkley, who he says is moving up the charts and could be the 1st DT taken. Mayock said he's definitely a 3-down guy and commented about his physique and how cut he is and how quick and fast he is for a guy his size (said he did a sub 5.0 in the 40). Of course, who cares what a DT runs in the 40!! Based on this, I'm wondering if Bunkley would be the better pick??
-
Yeah, I'd give Harrington a shot and hope a change of scenery would do him good. He played at Oregon so he's played in bad weather.

You hit the Nall on the head there!!

There was a blurb in The Sporting News saying the Ravens are enamored with Mike Huff because he's such a big hitter. We sure didn't see that in the clips someone posted a couple days ago. ????? Maybe there's some other clips somewhere that show this??

among the Top 10 picks. Robinson will have to make a quick change if the Bills sign Pickett. 8. Buffalo Bills – Haloti Ngata, DT, Oregon. Larry Tripplett was a nice pickup in free agency, but he'll need to work next to a rock to be most effective. Ngata fits the bill perfectly as the replacement for Sam Adams. This might be the most absolute lock among the top-10 picks

People forget that Terry Bradshaw, Elway and Aikman all were terrible in their 1st years as starters. Sure they were all thrown in as rookies but JP had only a little experience prior to last season. I guess some of us were disappointed after all the positive vibes coming from OBD in the prior offseason from TD, Wyche, and Mularkey about how much work JP was putting in and how much he was improving. Well, none of that was in live action. I say "Give the kid some more time". Evaen Tim Couch got a reasonable amount of time before he was tossed away.

My problem with Huff, and the 8 slot.

Yes, I was just thinking about DE. Schobel is solid but the Bills could use more of a difference-maker. Now they wil lhave to contend with Culppepper twice a year. I get sick of Brady just sitting there in the pocket with all day to throw and pick the Bills defense apart. A DE that gets the other teams attention and one that could even get pressure against double teams like Bruce used to.
