  1. Doug Flutie was born in Manchester, Maryland, a lesser known location for witches in US History. I'm just saying.
  2. Larry Ellison seemed to make a shrewd move when he partnered with the minority owners of the Golden State Warriors in bidding for that team. However, Larry's "craftiness" backfired when he was too late submitting his final bid. What he should have done was buy out the minority owners, which is what's being suggested here.
  3. As AI said: "Practice. We're talking about practice. Not a game!! Practice!!"
  4. The "name" coaches we all wanted probably did the same thing: "Hi, this is Buddy Nix." "Who?? In San Diego??" "No, I'm now the GM up in Buffalo" "Oh, well good luck with that." Click.
  5. Right on!!! With the obvious holes on office, I was surprised when they announced the switch to the 3-4. The defense wasn't as bad as the stats last year because the offense was so bad. I didn't understand why they didn't focus on fixing the offense first. If the defense faltered, then consider a scheme switch next year. Rex Grossman was available as a free agent, too!! But, was he really that good or was our defense that bad??
  6. Every time it's discussed, I still just can not believe that they "address" the OT position by signing an unimpressive Green and thru the use of 5th (Wang) and 7th rnd picks. Again, Spiller could turn into Chris Johnson & we'll all love the pick but with the OT need, even if u believe in Bell and/or Meredith, at least get somebody like Stafford or Charles Brown in the 2nd round. Worst case is you have great depth. They could've found a very good scatback (versus a great one in Spiller) in the later rounds.
  7. Is it that much different from the "burying" of Rob Johnson, Whitner, McCargo, Losman, Hardy, Edwards, etc.??
  8. The bottom line I get from all of the camp reports is: 1. Pass defense looks great- QBs still suck?? 2. Pass rush impressive- O-Line still horrible?? 3. Running game looking good- Run defense still poor??
  9. For the most part Bill Walsh knew what he was talking about but nobody can predict 100%. Walsh was an adviser to the Niners and told them to pick Jake Plummer but they took Drunkonmiller. Plummer was a good QB but was no Montana , who Walsh compared him to. Walsh was right to trade up to draft Rice (remember that Al Toon & Eddie Brown were taken before him??) but a few years later he traded up for JJ Stokes but he didn't pan out. Walsh's track record was still better than most and definitely better than what we've seen post-Polion. Since Edwards has become Captain Checkdown, perhaps Walsh saw him as a fit for his West Coast offense.
  10. Since I don't live in Buffalo, what other sports networks do you have there? Out west, and in most of the country, there's an ESPN radio channel and many cities have The Ticket Channel. Recently the SF market has added The Xtra which is a Sporting News Network.
  11. Producer is Jerry Bruckheimer of CSI fame.
  12. Watched the season premier of Dark Blue. The Dylan McDermott character (Carter) went undercover with the name Jimbo Kelly. I wonder if there's some connection there??
  13. Hey, where did you get a picture of my greatgramma??
  14. Last 2 1st draft picks are specialists. Can't do that with a team that hasn't made the playoffs since 1999.
  15. What does giving a player what he wants gain you?? Nothing.
  16. I was not a fan of pick either but in reality the back who ended up the starter is 29 and has not shown the ability to score TDs. The other RB had a league suspension and was another dumb move away from perhaps a year-long suspension. His productivity also tailed off. They likely didn't feel comfortable with what they had. Still, why not then draft a Mathews who could be an every down back?? Or, get their scatback in a later round?
  17. "On defense with both Spencer Johnson and Marcus Stroud sidelined, John McCargo got first team reps at left defensive end alongside Kyle Williams and Dwan Edwards." Someone had recently asked about McCargo. It appears the coaching staff may not be considering him for NT.
  18. OK Now if he just stays clear of the local law enforcement.
  19. Many teams have shown that with a sound offensive scheme and good blocking you can put just about any decent back in there. This is why I wasn't totally in to the drafting of Spiller over an available OT.
  20. I've seen more than one pre-training camp article picking the Chargers to go to the Super Bowl, which wouldn't be surprising given their 13-3 record in 2009. AJ could ruin this with the way he's dealing with these stars.
  21. So, Green will get cut right before the 1st game??
  22. I did a search first but found nothing. To those who may not have heard, he was addressing the kids at this charity bowling tournament and said "this is what it's all about. I love being with the kids." which was great. He follows it up by saying "I don't even like playing football". Tongue-in-cheek or some truth to it?? If the latter, is this another guy just colecting a paycheck??
  23. I'll never get those 20 mins of my life back. Bunch of guys screwing around at a charity bowling event. Snore!!
  24. Trent Edwards starts season as #1 QB. O-Line is horrible again in pass protection and TE becomes "Captain Checkdown" again before suffering a season-ending injury on a sack. Fitz takes over and he too goes down with a season-ending injury. Injuries also hit the O-line again and Reuben Brown is brought in out of retirement. Brohm struggles behind the make-shift O-line and Levi Brown starts the last 3 games. Schobel decides to play but, after struggling to pick up his 3-4 assignments, decides to retire at midseason. After injuries to Dallas D-line, Cowboys acquire rights to Schobel for 2020 7th round pick and talk him out of retirement. As pass rush specialist, he has 8 sacks in last 5 games and is Defensive Player of Month for December. Jason Campbell leads a much improved Oakland offense & team to 8-8 record. CJ Spiller lives up to college reputation and brings excitement to another dismal season with several long scoring plays and gets good number of votes for AFC Offensive Rookie of Year. With Bills struggling, reporter asks Dick Jauron about Bills problems. Jauron states (I know everyone knows this is coming) "It's tough to win in the NFL"
