I also heard his teammates said he was 1st on the practice field and the last one off.

Yet another thread on draft thoughts, scenarios
BobbyC81 replied to tonyjustbcuz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You need the whole 11 guys on defense to support stopping the run. Don't discount how much a DB can help (Ex: Polamalu, Bob Sanders). Antoine Winfield contributed a lot to the run defense when he was with the Bills (one of the best tacklers I've ever seen). The Bills continually blew it in 2010 by not forcing the runner back inside. -
After much thought, my opinion is, if the Bills feel Gabbert is worthy of the 3rd pick, that's who they should take. As has been much discussed, finds like Warner & Romo aside, the 1st round QBs are what you need to be successful. You can get defensive front 7 help in other rounds and via free agency. The top QBs are hard to get. At #3, I think you have to go for the potential franchise QB and I favor Gabbert over Newton.

[closed]Where Does It Say We're Interested In Newton???
BobbyC81 replied to bills1960's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Mr Kiper now has the Bills taking Gabbert if Carolina doesn't. Heard this on ESPN radio. He's not updating his mock until next week. -
Helmet changed to red while Joe Ferguson was QB. The reason given was because he was having difficulties distinguishing his teammates from division foes also with white helmets and was throwing a lot of interceptions. Nightmare scenario: Bills' pick #3 on clock. Bills' War Room trying to decide and also receiving trade calls. With 60 seconds remaining to pick, war room calls reps at draft. Last thing rep hears is: "We've decided. We want.." Call is dropped. Bengals rush to turn in selection of Newton, who becomes Hall-of-Famer. Bills end up with Fairley, who eats himself out of the league in 3 years. DOH!

How about if they took Cam Newton and he ended being another JaMarcus Russell? That would be a "screw up".

This was in my local Sacramento Bee on Thursday: Kaepernick

Yes, his thinness stood out when I watched him at Nevada. Hopefully he can grow into his body and doesn't have thin bones.
-
I've also seen him play a couple times. I also like what I've read about him. He has a super strong arm, is very mobile and is smart.

is PEGULA the next owner of the Bills ?
BobbyC81 replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What about Quinn? Will he still be around?? Whoever was involved in the decision to not resign Drury & Briere for reasonable deals before the last year of their contracts should be removed. -
One might also think that a professional sports team worth hundreds of millions of dollars would go about this a little differently than putting an ad in the paper.

Pat Moran:inside source has us taking

And Bills' fans who saw Wade Phillips become enamored with Erik Flowers (whose value rose after the combine) and draft him in the 1st round?? -
Carucci: Bills GM Nix likes Cam Newton "a great deal"
BobbyC81 replied to Marshmallow's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Excuse me guys but Steve Young went back to school and got a "Law degree". He's on a local radio show and his insight on the QB position is phenomenal. He is very intelligent. -
We forget: with Willis already taken by SF, if Lynch wasn't there, the Bills would've taken Poz with their 1st round pick. Getting him in the 2nd was good value. Unfortunately, he just hasn't turned out to be an Urlacher.

The Difference Between Ben Roethlisberger & Cam Newton
BobbyC81 replied to BiggieScooby's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've only seen Newton play like 4 games but when watching him play, Vince Young came to mind immediately. He moves & runs like him. I am white and moved to California about 30 years ago. I rarely hear the N-word out here. When I'm back in Buffalo I hear it all the time. I'll admit though, I also hear it when visiting family in Texas. -
the Bills gameplan for the franchise?
BobbyC81 replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
One guy could've just taken the consensus from the Mock drafts on the major sports websites and done a better job. There would not have been the reaches for Erik Flowers, McCargo, Maybin, etc. Nix has made the comments about liking to draft guys with a good body of work and not one-year wonders. Based on that, I would think Bowens and maybe Fairley would not be top on his list. -
Giggle! giggle! He said 'Bonerville'!! Giggle!

Bills top list of landing spots for Vince Young
BobbyC81 replied to ALLEN1QB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Young was 1st so it would have to be that Russell was V.Young 2.0. -
He had good touch on a few throws but bad touch on several more. Also, a couple of those drops could be contributed to him throwing "too" hard. Had a job where we had a college intern from Stanford who was a starting receiver for Elway. He said by the end of the season his fingers were so messed up from Elway's hard throws that he had to catch the ball with his palms. This might be the case with Mallet's receivers. Having seen just about every Stanford game Luck has started, to me Mallet is not even close. I did like how his darts got to the receivers quick on screens & dropoffs. Those types of plays haven't worked for the Bills much in recent years because by the time the ball gets there, one or more defenders are right there. I could see possibly better results with those types of throws to Parrish & Spiller. Bottom line: I don't see Mallet being a good pick at #3. I've only seen Newton play twice so I'll be looking forward to the championship game.

Just about every game, the O-line couldn't sustain blocks and the defensive players couldn't shed them. What were these strength & conditioning coaches doing?

What Will Maybin Do After Football
BobbyC81 replied to Bills99999's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Arena League. He could play multiple positions. I think he will be given multiple opportunities because of his athleticism until each location learns he's a "Look like Tarzan, play like Jane" player. -
Kubiak appears safe in Houston
BobbyC81 replied to San Jose Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Man, having a recent former head coach as your DC doesn't give Kubiak much of a leash before he could be replaced by Phillips. -
Injury report...Donald Jones, David Nelson out
BobbyC81 replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Exactly. After seeing some of his college highlights where he was catching deep balls I wondered why the Bills weren't using him that way. Then, this past game, they actually threw deep to him twice. They had promoted Phil Hubbard from the practice squad. They should just IR someone who won't be playing tomorrow and promote that other WR they just added to the PS. Windsor?? -
As we near the end of the 2010 season, let's take a look at the quarterback moves the Bills didn't make this past offseason: 1. In the 2010 draft, many of us were disappointed when the Bills didn't grab Claussen or Tebow in the 1st round and again passed on Claussen when he was still available in the 2nd round. Still too early to tell, but so far Bradford has been the only rookie ready to start while Claussen has not taken advantage of opportunities he's had to play for Carolina. Tebow hasn't had much opportunities yet. 2. McNabb: I was among those who were disgusted that Washington got him so cheaply and wondered why the Bills didn't pursue him. Well he's had likely his worst NFL season and appears on the outs with the Skins. 3. Jason Campbell: I was on the bandwagon to trade for him as his stats had improved from year-to-year in Washington. He's struggled to hold onto the starting job with Oakland and likely wouldn't be starting now if Gradkowski didn't get injured. Sure the Bills decision to stick with Edwards as starter didn't work out but I think they have been better off with Fitzpatrick as starter than they may have been with the other alternatives.
