The players just still are not serious, and will have to be slapped around a bit more by the owners. The owners' resolve is damn strong.....nothing like 95.

I am glad the owners are holding a hard line against the players. The players are still a bit too thick to see where the economic situation is going to end up. Too bad for them. If necessary, bring on the replacements.

Glad they did not put together a halfassed deal......the small markets are really having a lot of influence here. Welcome the players back to a 35 million dollar cap sometime in the summer. Either that, or break the damn "union" in half.

A 45 million dollar cap......I would side with the idea that this isn't going to be very helpful for the Sabres.....unless there is major revenue sharing, luxury tax concepts. I hope the owners turn this down later today or tomorrow. Hold out for a better deal. They will look like bad guys and will be villified by some fans, but if the Sabres want to stay in Buffalo, I am hoping a better deal over the summer will be concocted. The NHLPA had its ass kicked this week, and now it is trying to save face. They want to look like the good guys by negotiating to 45....and if the owners and Bettman say no dice, then they will try that as PR to say they are off the hook for losing out on the previous negotiations and looking like the bad guys in all this. Beyond that, they need to iron out on-ice issues to change the game around. And how the hell do you bring back all these players in Europe? Are they tied down to a contract over there still? Don't try to throw something together half-assed at the last second.

I have to laugh at the players.....in the last 48 hours, finally, they go with a cap.....but they still don't get a season because their cap maximum was too high. All the kvetching for what? They could have played at 40-42 million.....now the owners will put the screws to the NHLPA, and there will be a 31 million cap like Daly said back in September. The gravy train is over for the players.

I think the NHLPA will have to go to 44 million or under. Bettman looks to have thrown down the gauntlet.....saying no compromise from 42.5. 154 days of this, and in the last 48 hours, the NHLPA goes to a cap concept and then drops the cap #. I think the NHL can squeeze more out of them.....the players are probably getting a bit frantic, calling, e-mailing GoodenowWorselater and Saskin-Robbins 39 flavors at this moment.
