  1. Several points to consider: (1) NO WAY was this management going to break the bank on a Hutchinson or a Bentley or a Shafer. Too many holes to fill across the organization. (2) NO WAY was this management going to go after older players (cf. Runyan, Flanagan, et al). It does not fit their game plan of bringing in up and coming players. (3) Management did make a valiant attempt at getting Wells. Give Marv some credit for that attempt! (4) Management did bring in Neal and Fabini...who knows how those visits went...note that both have suffered from injuries...we can speculate all we want on those two...it is entirely possible that the team doctors felt that they were too risky to bring on board. (5) Management did sign Fowler. Fits the mold of rebuilding. (6) The draft is very deep on offensive line talent - especially the tackle position. We should be cautious on spitting nails until after the draft is completed. [My only disappointment so far with the offseason has been that we lost out on Pickett to the Fudge Packers. I think that signing would have put us in great shape for the draft as far as flexibility is concerned.]
  2. Two other facts in regard to the Price argument: (1) Price was much younger and in the "upside" of his career; (2) Donahoe fleeced Atlanta on that one (and everyone knows it!). One other fact in regard to the Henry argument: (1) Tenny had an injury-plagued running back (Chris Brown) and an NFL Europe running back (Jarret Payton) on its roster. It needed a workhorse badly and probably overpaid (slightly) the Bills with a 3rd rounder.
  3. PTR, very nicely posted...with facts no less...how unique to this board! That being said, I have said it before on this board and I will say it again...I think a 3rd round pick is in order. And I base this on two other facts: age (Moulds will be 33 in the middle of next season) and attitude (crying like a little baby against your biggest rival - Miami). The other bonus to unloading him, which everyone is excited about from a Bills fan perspective, is getting rid of that big salary!
  4. It seems the Bills always get screwed with compensatory picks...at best, we'll get an extra pick in the 8th round...
  5. I am fairly certain that compensatory picks cannot be traded.
  6. Moulds - 6'2", 210 lbs, 32 years old Walker - 6'3", 215 lbs, 27 years old The game is all about matchups - mismatches that is. Moulds is more often than not a mismatch in terms of size and strength on a cornerback (I still say he is the strongest receiver in the league). Same holds true with Walker - definite mismatch on a cornerback. Granted, this only holds true if Walker is healthy. That being said, if you had an offense with Walker, Evans, Vernon Davis, and McGahee, can you say "HOLY MACKEREL TED MARCHIBRODA!". At that point, you could still have an average offensive line and an average quarterback...and just let the fun start....just give the ball to the one that has the greatest mismatch. And I would make the draft pick a conditional pick for the 2007 draft. Depending on production, it could range from anywhere from a 2nd round to a 6th round. Then, in this year's draft, you snag Vernon Davis in the 1st round, and then a defensive tackle, and two offensive guards to round out Day 1. The other wildcard in this deal could be Mark Roman, the Green Bay strong safety. Supposedly he wants out of Green Bay as well. Throw him in the deal and I will ask Marv to throw in one of our 3rd round picks. Then, maybe, we could finally say goodbye to Mr. Wire!
  7. But, but, but, but....I saw Posey make some tackles...in the 4th quarter!
  8. Overall, well thought out. The big hole that is lacking in your draft is a WR. I also think the Bills will go with two guards in the draft rather than two tackles. We currently have Peters and Gandy, and resigned Greg Jerman. We still have Teague on the roster too who can fill in at tackle.
  9. Very well thought out 1st round! Nice work!
  10. I could not agree with you more on this, Promo. We will get something for him...and it will not be from the Patsies!
  11. Two of the eight teams are probably the Giants and Seahawks. Both of them were in the Keyshawn sweapstakes, so I think it's a safe bet that they have expressed interest in Moldy. I am still convinced that if we can get a 3rd round pick for him, TAKE IT AND RUN! Not only would we unload a 32 year old receiver with a 'tude, we would also get another day 1 pick in a very deep draft, as well as unload a nice chunk of money off this year and next year.
  12. I thought I heard on NFL Network this morning (Adam Shefter) that the Seahawks were $18 million under the cap right now. How is that possible with the Walter Jones contract, Matt Hasselbeck contract, Shaun Alexander contract, Rocky Bernard contract, etc, etc, etc.????????????
  13. Ah, how should I say this....NO!!!!!!!!! In terms of points by draft position, the #8 pick is almost equivalent to the #22 and #29 pick combined. If you want to give away Moulds for free, then you do what you have proposed. That being said, I would be happy with Moulds and the #8 pick to Denver for #22, #29, and their 3rd round pick.
  14. Actually, I don't believe Marv's contingency plan is Neal. I think both Wells and Neal are part of the plan. I believe Marv wants both. They fit his mold - younger and stepping into their 2nd tiers of experience in the NFL. I think if all goes well, Neal and Wells will be in the red, white, and blue next year. Like it or not, if that happens, we will see both Bennie Anderson and Chris Villariel let go. Bennie for no other reason than he could teach a clinic on the finer points of a false start and Villariel for no other reason than age (33 when season starts) and salary cap ($1.5 million in savings if released, I believe). So, our 2006 starting offensive line would have Peters (or rookie) - Wells - Preston - Neal - rookie (or Peters). This would be a solid core to build around for the future. I think the same can be said of DeVries and Idonije - they are both in the plan - one is not the contigency plan/signing for the other. Marv wants both. They would come in and back up Kelsay and Schobel, plus both would be solid additions to the special teams units. Another Marv requirement.
  15. I believe Wells can play guard or center. That gives us a possible starter at guard and some solid depth at the center position (especially if Teague is released). Neal was a starter at right guard last year for New England, so I am curious what that may mean for Villariel. Any way you slice it though, the o-line not only lacks some solid studs, but also lacks serious depth! Either or both of these moves points to one factor that is common to the guys Marv is bringing in or signing...they are all young. Like it or not, Marv is rebuilding this team from the bottom up with an influx of youth. Heck, you need a lot of youth to offset the owner and GM, right?!?!
  16. If we are talking offensive tackles, the two guys I like on Day 1 are Jeremy Trueblood from BC (large kid!) and Daryn Colledge from Boise State. Trueblood could step in from day 1 at left tackle and benefit greatly from Master McNally. Colledge would probably need at least a year and would be a nice fit at right tackle.
  17. If we were able to trade Moulds, what do you think his value is? If Brandon Lloyd is worth a 3rd round pick (2006) and a 4th round pick (2007) to the Washington Deadskins, what is Moulds' value considering his age, salary, etc, etc, etc. At this point, I would be inclined to push for a 4th round pick this year or a conditional pick next year. Personally, I think we need to unload him, move on, and start rebuilding this team with young bucks. Anything we can get in return is gravy at this point. Comments? Other thoughts?
  18. If New Orleans ends up landing Drew Brees, I could see them taking Super Mario at #2....especially since they just lost Darren Howard through free agency. Given some of this weekend's free agent moves, I could realistically see the Bills swapping slots with St Louis in the 1st round and picking up their 2nd rounder in the process. I know someone has posted this recently on the board and I agree 100%. In that deal, St Louis would jump up to take Vernon Davis and we would probably still have Ngata or Bunkley at the 11th slot to take. That swap of picks would obviously be predicated on the fact that we only sign one DT through free agency.
  19. John Runyan and Tom Ashworth are still available. I tend to like Ashworth more because he is younger than Runyan and is from a division rival. I think Runyan probably has 2 more years left in him. I do not want another one of those signings. All reports on Ashworth indicate that he is a solid guy, spends extra time on technique, etc, etc, etc. Ashworth sounds like a "Marv guy" to me.
  20. No. The signing of Royal was primarily for blocking. This move is primarily to add some additional force to the offensive line.
  21. Exactly! It sets us up for choices. You can then draft for value primarily rather than need.
  22. And with the 8th selection in the NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills select Michael Huff, safety, University of Texas.
  23. Let's hope Marv's first free agent signing works out as well as Donajoke's 12:01 AM signing of Jeff Posey...
  24. You left out Bills sign G Steve Hutchinson and Bills sign SS Adam Archuleta...didn't you see those on page 2 of the sports section?
  25. From www.kffl.com: Falcons | Hopkins to visit this week Wed, 8 Mar 2006 06:07:06 -0800 Jim Wyatt, of the Tennessean, reports free agent OT Brad Hopkins (Titans) will visit with the Atlanta Falcons later this week. "I think (Brad) just wants to get into where he is going to be. We are certainly going to keep the Titans abreast to what is going on, and we'll see what happens,'' agent Mark Bartelstein said. "It is hard to find great left tackles, so (the interest) doesn't really surprise me.'' Given this visit, could it mean that the Falcons do not believe that they will be able to keep Kevin Schaefer in the fold? Also, has anyone actually watched Schaefer play? What do you guys think of his play? How did he fair against the stud defensive ends in the NFC South? Guys like Peppers, Rice, etc.
