  1. I know stats don't tell the whole story, but please tell me how it is that a QB who throws for 4300 yards and 21 TDs "sucks". Are you a Giants fan? Did you watch all his games last year? Maybe you can explain how Eli's suckitude can co-exist with passing statistics better than any Bills QB has posted in the history of the franchise. I'm all ears. [Edit: ok, better than any Bills QB other than Jim Kelly in his prime]
  2. Me too, but the question was whether Eli Manning “stinks”. It seems crazy for a Bills fan to suggest that he does.
  3. So it’s Eli’s fault that the Giants’ defense was horrible? Who’s the last Bills QB to throw for 4000 yards and 20 TDs in a season? And what does Josh Allen have to do with it? He’s a really exciting young QB, and I’m glad we have him, but so far he has not accomplished much as a passer in the NFL.
  4. I think Metcalf’s going top 10, maybe even to the Jets at 3 if they can’t trade back. I would be more than OK with taking him at 9, if he’s there.
  5. Bills fans would be ecstatic if our QB put up numbers even close to what Eli posted last year.
  6. First, I disagree that our defense was "not very good last year." They weren't dominant, but they were overall a very good unit that got worn down and had to compensate for a historically bad offense for most of the year. I'm actually OK with Beane using our first round pick on whoever he thinks is the best DL available there. What I'm not OK with is burning our first two picks (plus probably another premium pick this year or next) on defense when we are completely devoid of offensive playmakers. Go ahead and pick a DL at 9, but I want to see the next two picks used on WR, TE and/or RB.
  7. Are the Seahawks just going to give us Frank Clark for free? You’re talking about a historically bad offensive football team using all of its premium picks on defense. Yes, it’s great that Beane shored up the o-line, but as of right now, we have zero offensive playmakers—not a single guy that opposing defenses fear.
  8. Do you dream of rooting for an NFL team that scores 5 points per game?
  9. Here’s the problem I’ve got with BPA. If your choice is between Oliver and Metcalf—two guys who play entirely different positions—how do you know who’s “best available”? I think at most you can meaningfully compare guys who play the same or similar positions. And where should positional value enter into it? Is a “generational” (I hate that term) guard worth more than a really good WR or edge rusher?
  10. If Metcalf had put up Hollywood Brown numbers, he wouldn’t make it out of the top 3 (he might not anyway; I would not be surprised if the Jets take him). Sometimes you gotta take chance.
  11. Yes, the Bills have a great track record of passing on pass catchers who’ve had neck surgery.? I would leave that part of the evaluation to the doctors.
  12. Yes, im adamant about acquiring weapons for Josh Allen, and Beane should be too. I’m not at all opposed to a trade down, but the question was about WR at 9. And I am convinced we can find a Kyle replacement at 40. It’s a very deep DT draft. Anyone who thinks we should pass on Metcalf because of the 3-cone drill is not worth paying attention to.
  13. Right now, the Bills have zero offensive weapons: No TE, two old, washed up RBs and a collection of journeyman WRs. We need offensive players who can stretch the field and make plays. Offensive line has been addressed in free agency.
  14. I wouldn’t mind Metcalf at 9. High risk high reward and finally a guy defenses will have to account for. I also think we could use him in the running game the way the Pats used Cordarrelle Patterson last year. Then go D-line at 40. There will be plenty of talent still available.
  15. I think Josh Allen is being projected too high. Chris Simms, for example, had him as the fourth ranked edge rusher, behind Bosa, Gary and Sweat. I could see him dropping a bit and I’d be absolutely opposed to any trade up from 9. Too expensive and way too much uncertainty regarding who the best prospects are. Agree with this, except I have feeling they’ve got Gary ranked ahead of everyone but Bosa and Q Williams.
  16. We aren’t moving up to 5 without giving up 40 and more, or next year’s 1. I’m fine with using 9 on a defender if that’s the bpa, but I’m not down with trading up in the top 10 to take a defensive lineman, especially when a number of really good ones will be there if we stay put.
  17. I like it, but I don’t think Beane will trade down twice. Those Texans picks are pretty late in the second, too. IMO, he’s more likely to trade back from 9, then package later picks to trade up into the late first or to get another second. It’s probably all going to depend on who’s available at 9, which is how it should be.
  18. Simms watches film and forms his own opinions. He likes Rashan Gary and Montez Sweat more than Josh Allen, for example. Really enjoy watching these podcasts.
  19. Except that Simms says Lawrence is far more than a space-eater. He ranks him above Oliver, the guy many project to us at 9. Not sure if he’s right, but it shows the subjectivity of this process and is another argument not to panic and trade up for a defensive lineman in this draft. I would love to see us go offense at 9 and take the best remaining DL at 40. There will be a good one there. Or, even better, trade 9 for the Raider’s two late first rounders.
  20. It was a figure of speech, Maryland. They’re probably wrong about so-called “generational talents” in the draft about 50 percent of the time, which is way too often to risk a bunch of premium picks, especially when the draft is stacked with defensive line talent. It’s why good teams don’t trade up. Last I heard, we’ve got the ninth pick, so we don’t have to wait until 40.
  21. The experts also thought Sammy Watkins was the best WR prospect in his class, a guy who might come along every 2-4 years. They were wrong. And they are wrong all the time.
  22. How do you know he doesn't pass block? For what it's worth, he's a very decent receiver out of the backfield. His rookie year he caught 36 balls for 302 yards. That's a little less than what Shady has averaged for his career.
  23. So the team that fielded one of the worst offenses in NFL history for most of last season should give up premium picks to move up for an interior defensive lineman in a draft that is absolutely stacked with defensive line talent? People just never learn.
