I'm not sure which response you're referring to, but i assume you are acknowledging that the NFL rulebook does not expressly adopt this rule of reason concept that applies to US Antitrust law. You're just saying it should. Unless I'm missing something...

Show me where the “rule of reason” is incorporated into the NFL rulebook as a whole or in this particular rule. Does the “rule of reason” also apply to helmet to helmet tackles or technically illegal crackback blocks, as well? if there is a rule of reason that applies generally, then every rule is subject to the referee’s opinion on any given play, right? I guess this would also apply to play clock violations too, because who cares about a second or two during an NFL game, right?

It’s not that Knox wasn’t capable; it’s that he made zero effort to block a guy who had a straight line to his QB. A coordinator is not responsible for a guy who flat out failed to perform a simple task. The play was set up perfectly, and if Smith is in there, Houston might have committed more guys to stopping the run since that’s a dead giveaway.

Gimme a break. A rookie in his first preseason game could have made that block and THREE NFL STARTERS whiffed on it. It was a GREAT play design and if ONE of those starters had done his job, we would have won the playoff game. Allen probably scores if someone blocks Cunningham.

I didn’t even notice Morse. That’s three guys who completely failed football 101 at the most crucial time, and almost got our QB killed as well. Inexcusable.

Come on, man. You can’t see the difference between going for it on 4th and 3 (50 percent or better chance) and going for it on 4th and 27 (2 percent chance at best, especially when your QB is in deer/headlight mode)? One is smart, the other is reckless and downright dumb.

What’s particularly galling here is that the official got it right and then was overruled based on an incorrect interpretation of the rule. Totally inexcusable.

Apparently the referee must have missed those other multiple times because in real time he believed it was a live football. If it happens all the time, then why did he do that? Just to mess with the Texans?

So it’s OK to enforce a stupid rule in a ticky tacky manner vs the Bills in a key situation, but “common sense” must prevail when the KO return man flips a live football to the referee in his own end zone? (Not saying that’s your position.)
