Think about this: Simpson played four years of college ball (two years of JC and two years at USC) and when he was a rookie, in 1969, he was already 22 years old. Nowadays, a player like him certainly would have come out a year early. He then spent his first three years in the league barely being used, even though he was a Heisman Trophy winner and the number 1 overall pick in the draft. Under today's system, the Bills would have had to decide on his fifth year option at that point! So by the time the Bills figured out that they should give the ball to Simpson early and often, in 1972, he was already 25 years old--at the point where RBs in today's game are typically cut loose after the end of their rookie contracts. He then went on (at 25 to 29 years old) to have his run of five astounding seasons, when he was IMO, the greatest running back in NFL history, and before injuries ended his career. Oh, what could have been....

The other thing to consider is that, for whatever reason, the bust rate seems to be higher with offensive linemen taken in the top 10. I just don’t see any way Chase doesn’t become a top 10 receiver in the league within a year or so.

I think the Bengals are correct. Chase is likely to become a serious weapon that other teams will have to account for on every down, who will open things up for other players on the field. That has a huge impact. Sewell, even if he’s really good, will just be a solid piece of a functioning offensive line, not someone who will give defensive coordinators nightmares.

Yep. There are likely to be a number of good CBs available at 30. I don't even think Surtain is the best CB in this draft...He's Surtainly not worth trading up for...

Chris Simms has Jones at QB3 and projects him going in the top 10. (Actually, he says he's going 3 to SF) So that's one draft analyst who says Jones is far better than the 30th ranked prospect, and he has a very good track record when it comes to ranking QB prospects.

1. I'm not sure if NFL investigators have the ability to issue legally enforceable subpoenas, but you are probably right about that. If there was an ongoing arbitration between Watson and the league, though, the league would be able to issue subpoenas. 2. That's true, but as I said, NDAs can't compel a party to remain silent in the face of a legally enforceable subpoena and Watson would have no right to withhold future payments because one of the women he settled with testified at a trial or in a deposition.

Lots, and I mean lots, of guys who "analyze draft prospects for a living" didn't give Josh Allen a round 1 grade. Joe Marino, who prides himself as a draft guru, had Allen as QB8, behind such luminaries as Kyle Lauletta and Mason Rudolph, not to mention Josh Rosen. Draft experts are spectacularly wrong all the time, especially when it comes to QBs.

Yes. That was even worse. They literally just decided to change the rule in the middle of a playoff game. There was a very good thread on this at the time. It should have been ruled a safety.

Agreements not to cooperate with the authorities or to refuse to testify at trial or in a deposition are not legally enforceable. Any other plaintiff could subpoena one of the women who settled with Watson and that woman would have to testify in a deposition or at trial, or be held in contempt of court and potentially go to jail. That's why nondisclosure agreements typically have an exception for disclosure that is compelled by legal process.

Yeah, I agree that it's too early to completely write the guy off, but Miami was reportedly considered a frontrunner to trade for Watson (when that was considered feasible) and were also rumored to be at least thinking about taking a QB at 3, although that's now off the table of course. It will be interesting to see if they invest a second or third rounder in a QB in this year's draft.

No, people are harsh on Tua because he doesn't seem to have what it takes to be a star QB in the league. He does not look like he can make all the throws, and not much of a running threat, not to mention questions about his mental toughness. And his supporting cast was just fine, certainly far superior to what JA had to work with his first two years. The Dolphins said repeatedly that he was fully recovered from his injury. If he wasn't, then he should not have played. No way they take Lance that high. He's barely played in the past year and he's played only one year of 1-AA ball. Way too risky at that spot.
