Draft Day Party at the Ralph - Details
LancasterSteve replied to JÂy RÛßeÒ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We will all be in the Paul McGuire Club. Are you going to gat there early? I would like to get the long table on the far side in front of the wall of televisions. I will be there early but we don't all have to stand in line. Maybe I will bring a football to toss around to kill some time before they let us in. -
That would be nice but IMHO no way will Curry be available at our pick. I still think that an OLB is in the mix with our first 4 picks in the draft. While it would be nice if Clay Mathews was still available at 28, I think he will off the board by then. I think a realistic pick at #28 is Connor Barwiin out of Cincinnati. Solid player who is going to be a good pro IMO. Has speed which can't be taught.

So will I (-; Going again with the Buffalo Bills Booster Club. We'll meet up. -
[ So I think people get too caught up in the workout and testing numbers. I agree to an extent. Speed can't be taught and the Wonderlic more than anything IMHO measures how fast you process information; thats why there is a time limit in taking it. Can this player learn? How quickly can he absorb the playbook?, the game plan? Just another tool in evaluating players. All these players about to be drafted have football smarts in varied degrees to begin with. The questions the teams have to answer; can this guy be coached up? Good example of this is Jason Peters. McNally took Peters under his wing so to speak and worked with him many hours. He brought Peters along slowly and it paid off in Peters becoming a very good left tackle. IMO that is one reason you see the high bust rate in WR's drafted high. What was being coached in route running and blocking just doen't sink in. The pro's have a term for players like this..."is he a one trick pony?" just speed and nothing else? The desire to play the game and the mental capabilities to play the game at the pro level are intangibles for which no test exists with certainty. The Wonderlic like I stated before is just another tool- not the final answer.

Well at least You sit on the sunny side of RWS You could always come over to the dark side and join us

Here are the scores for a few players as we approach the draft http://www.faniq.com/blog/2009-NFL-Wonderl...sses-Blog-20999 It will be interesting to see if low,low scores will affect where some of these players are drafted. Four years of college and only scoring a 15; what a shame.

What Club are your draft tickets for? TSW will have its own draft table in the Paul McGuire Club. Join us if you want. This goes for anyone else here who would like to join in our draft discussions

"When we're not watching, they're still working"
LancasterSteve replied to Lori's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
http://myespn.go.com/blogs/afceast/0-7-63/...ll-working.html Thanks Tim for shinning a light on all the good so many NFL players do off the field. Many many players (not only Buffalo Bills, I might add) help in the community, visit schools, nursing homes, hospitals and shelters and do it without fanfare or looking for attention. -

So am I....Plates...Ummmm Good!! -
Tim any chance you will be at RWS for the draft? I will save you a chair in the Paul McGuire Club. 5-6 of us are serious draftniks for many years, besides being long time season ticket holders. A few are long time posters here but will let them chime it if they want. We come very well prepared....and that might be an understatement

Whitner arrested in Cleveland
LancasterSteve replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That went out the window after the late John Butler left. It has been lip service from the One Bills Drive ever since. The main reason IMHO for this is that when John Butler left for San Diego, many of the Bills scouts followed him. They were a close knit group- John Butler and the scouts. John Butler always, always said that "high character" and football mentality were traits the Bills coveted foremost. And no I don't have a link to the conversations I had with him or the times I heard him on Larry Felser's or John Murphy's radio show on WBEN. One more thing for those of you too young to remember JB or never had a chance to meet him or listen to him talk about scouting players (which he did enthusiastically-all the time); John was a good guy, good sense of humor, would talk with you like you were his next door neighbor and had more humility one would expect given his position of eventually running the Bills organization. -
T. Graham's new Peters article
LancasterSteve replied to Kelly the Dog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Vic basically said the same thing at the Bills Booster Club meeting at RWS 2 weeks ago; that the Bills cannot let Peter's contract become a bigger distraction to the team. Both Vic C. and Steve Tasker spoke at the meeting. On another note, Vic brought up Larry English's name at least 3 times when there was a Q&A period after both spoke. Questions were mostly about Peters and the draft and Vic mentioning English on 3 different questions sort of jumped out at me. -
Hope You had a great Birthday Ken

AMEN !!!!

At this point I agree, get as much as the Bills can for Peters in picks. Something along the lines of a 1st and 3rd or 4th this year and a second in the 2010 draft might work. I go to every home game and at the end of the year Peters didn't have "it"; there was nothing left in the tank. He's a Pro and it was his responsibility to report in game shape. He made the decision to skip training camp and IMHO while Peters did give up some sacks his greatest ineptitude was in the running game. Tired legs=no push

Happy Birthday Cincy Those youngsters here don't know how good we got it. Keep the faith my friend.

Grant, my friend You are in my prayers. The "talks" we have had over the years have always left me smiling. A finer gentelman I shall never know.

Happy birthday - LancasterSteve(60)
LancasterSteve replied to mead107's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Thanks to all for the kind words on my birthday. Four more minutes after I arrived on this earth and my Mom and Dad were set to name me Patrick or Patrica, but beat the clock and became Steve Jr.; and I am a quarter Irish! I am a lucky guy to have met and become such good friends with so many people thru TBD that I think of you like family and that my home is always open to those who have no where else to spend a night when a storm hits before heading home. If you ever need help or want my cell number, please PM me. The Bills fabric has been woven into my very being these last 47 years. From those early practices at the Knox Estate to WMS were I was a walk-on ballboy and paid for my tickets with a paper route. Took the Main St. bus to Jefferson Ave. and walked to Civic stadium; for many games by myself when I was 13,14,15 & 16. At 17 I bought my first season ticket and had that until I left for active duty with the US Navy in 1971. Six years later I had season ticks once again. The Rockpile but a memory but newness and shear size of Rich stadium gave me goosebumps....WOW I though! Three years at UB while still holding down a full time job put a crimp in how many game I could resonably make but the passion never waned for Buffalo Bills football. In 1986(?) I received a call from a good friend at the Bills about employment once again, not full time just Friday thru Monday. The pay was good and I could adjust my hours with my other full time job, so I accepted. This was before the era of mass firings or new GM's cleaning house completely, so friendships I had made years earlier were still with the Bills with a few exceptions. Thus the era of Bills football with Bill Polian, Marv Levy, Walt Cory and a man who would become a very good friend- John Butler began. It was a fun ride while it lasted and will be forever grateful that I got to see all this unfold on the field by the Bills bench and in the offices. Some of you might be thinking, but what did you do? For the last three years, I was Marv Levy's shadow coming and leaving the field and many times it was bluecoat security besides myself and in the office I would lend a hand to whoever needed it. I had a"little" background after running the computer system for the 6th fleet for more that a few years Today no friends I knew remain with the Bills. Donahoe turned One Bills Drive upside down and fans wonder what happened? But that is a story for another time. My story is in the past but hope that the younger folk here will be fortunate to experience at least a tenth of the enjoyment of my rollercoater ride of being a Buffalo Bills fan these many years. Again Thank You all for the Happy Birthday greetings and words of kindness. I am truly humbled.
